I can imagine a better arrangement, for an example like in Sweden, where the King is guest of honour "on the floor" and not eh... tucked away on a balcony. The King speaks some ceremonial words and then listens to other speakers: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-r-GL-TaGU...ande-2012-foto-claudio-bresciani-scanpixW.jpg

:flowers:

There are many ways of doing it. :)

You can also interprete the current system as the Monarch being above the daily squabble in the Parliament and above politics. - And in theory she can veto a bill by refusing to sign.

Whether the Danish system is better or worse I don't know. It's the one that best suits the current political and public climate here in DK I guess.

A Royalista article with the DRF-ladies not loosing their hats - and a few pics: GALLERY: Royals put to the test at parliament opening | Royalista

This is a very good pic of Mary: http://royalista.com/wp-content/ima..._official-work_family-life--w=1200_h=1200.jpg

And observe how Joachim, being the perfect gentleman, looks elegantly casual while keeping one hand in his pocket and posing beside his lady. Admire how the lining in his jacket reflects the red carpet.
http://royalista.com/wp-content/ima...ficial-work_family-life--w=1200_h=1200.jpgOur Marie could do with a few kilos more. She's got too thin. - Curves are better.

Come Tuesday it will be the first Tuesday of October and therefore the day the Parliament starts up again after the summer break.

And as always the DRF are invited as honored guests of the Parliament.

So perhaps we should go through the protocol again, if for no other than new members.

The DRF will arrive at the Parliemant at Christiansborg in reversed order of rank.
I.e. Benedikte first.
Followed by Joachim and our Marie.
M&F.
And finally the Regent Couple.

They will be met at the foot of the stairs leading up to the main entrance, because even though the DRF are guests, they also formally outrank anyone else, so you don't make them walk up stairs before being received.
They will be met by the Chairman of the Parliament, Pia Kjærsgaard, followed by the second chairman and so on. They also constitute the Presidium of the Parliament.
Waiting for the DRF will also be the director (administrative manager) of the Parliament.

Upon arrival the ladies of the DRF will receive a bouquet of flowers. The bouquet should be co-ordinated with the court, who informs what kind of color the ladies will be wearing.
Then the members of the DRF will walk up the stairs greeting the members of the Presidium in descending order.

They will wait at the first repos/landing, until QMII has arrived, because she is the highest ranking so she will be the first to walk inside.

When that happens the DRF will proceed inside, escorted by the corresponding rank in the Parliament.
I.e. QMII will be escorted by the Chairman.
PH will be escorted by the second chairman and so on.

It's going to be windy Tuesday, so perhaps we'll see a hat or two flying? - It's all part of the entertainment. :p

Once inside the procession will walk upstairs by the main staircase before entering a room, where the DRF can refresh, take off a coat if need by, clean their hands and get a comb through the hair.
That also give the members of the Presidium time to find their seats in the main hall along with the other MP's.

Finally it's time for the DRF to enter their box. The MP's rise in respect - or are supposed to rise... (*) and the DRF find their seats in the box.

The Chairman of the Parliament will welcome the DRF and the MP's and after a number of brief formalities, it's time for the PM, Lars Løkke, to give his address. He will naturally also welcome the DRF and proceed to talk about the governments plans for the next year and the state of affairs of Denmark.

During the speech the members of the DRF put their faces in neutral and as such the cameras focus on the DRF, because it's tradition that the papers publish at least one picture of a member, preferably more, who look like he/she is falling asleep or is bored stiff. - It simply wouldn't be a proper start of the political season if there wasn't such a photo.:coffee:

The whole show also includes nine cheers for Denmark. Three cheers or shots has for more than 500 years been the identification signal for Danish ships and army units. And when the Monarch is present it three times three cheers.
For Sweden it's four cheers.

So now you have an idea what is going on, when you see the clips. ;) And some info to bore away an annoying person at a reception. :p

(*) Some MP's refuse to stand up when the DRF enters, because they do not acknowledge the monarchy, instead they enter the hall quietly after DRF has sat down.
- That is silly IMO, because DK is a democracy and the majority prefer a monarch as head of state, so that's it, you just have to accept it, whether you like it or not.

When that happens the DRF will proceed inside, escorted by the corresponding rank in the Parliament.
I.e. QMII will be escorted by the Chairman.
PH will be escorted by the second chairman and so on.

Meaning that if everyone show up accordingly tomorrow, QMII will be escorted by Speaker of the Parliament and Chairman of the Presidium, Pia Kjærsgaard :)eek:); Henrik will be escorted by 1st Vice-Chairman, Helle Thorning-Schmidt (for the first and, presumably, only time as HTS is expected to become the new United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees starting next year); Frederik will be escorted by 2nd Vice-Chairman, Kristian Pihl Lorentzen (the only male in the flock – not only did this year's election get us the first female Chairman of the Presidium, it's also the first time the Presidium has consisted of 4/5 women); Mary will be escorted by 3rd Vice-Chairman, Stine Brix (one of the MPs who will be entering after the DRF has sat down); Joachim will be escorted by 4th Vice-Chairman, Mette Bock; and Marie will be escorted by Director of the Parliament, Carsten U. Larsen. I'm not entirely certain who Benedikte will be escorted by.

Thanks, Marika86 & Queen Claude. :flowers:

The combined Danish world press are as usual slow! And apart from being slow, what better thing to do than to tag pics from previous years with "2015". :bang:

Here however is a Hat gallery from BB, for comparison: GALLERI: Kongelige hatte på Christiansborg | Billed Bladet

It's windy today, have we seen hats flying?

First video clip from DR1: VIDEO Se højdepunkterne fra Folketingets åbning | Politik | DR

Second video, show the Regent Couple arriving. And unless my French is off PH is complimenting a hat, our Marie's hat?

I saw the opening (with half an eye, however) and the same happened as last year... and last year... and last year again... Henrik crossed his arms already efter 1 minute, Margrethe was studying the ceiling several times, Frederik and Mary switched between listening and flirting a bit with each other, etc. etc. etc. ... All these 'activities' very likely to prevent falling asleep

Muhler-Is Henrik having some mobility issues? I noticed that he was being assisted up the steps today. He appeared to be joking in French with Marie about her hat.

Yes, he is getting older and has a history of back problems and he is not as sure on his feet as he used to be.

But, eeh, he is a bit on the heavy side and the daily exercise is perhaps not so high on the list that it ought to be...
Aaaand I can't help thinking PH perhaps is more sure-footed when there are no one else around...:p
It's nice with a bit of sympathy, eh?

- I know quite a lot of people whose faces light up if you tell them: "You look a bit under the weather today".
I suspect I won't be too off the mark if I say PH belongs in that group.

All royal ladies elegant but in my opinion the show stole the Princess Benedicte. And fortunately hats remained in place.

I wonder why the Parliament has not decorated the venue for the occasion, like they do in Sweden (picture), the Netherlands (picture) or even in Germany (picture)? It looked like a normal day at the office. Not even a special loge for Her Majesty The Queen...

Maybe because they don't decorate parliament here in the UK?! ;)

Actually they do [using the blue furnishings from the 1952 Coronation], in the Royal Gallery. But the its hard to imagine any further decoration in the House of Lords...

It is really not that much effort but the result is great. It looks so much better with a drape or a nice guirlande. Imagine how dull this loge looks without the flowers: (picture).

Crown Princess Mary and Prince Frederik shrug off stuffy formality to greet their regal relatives warm hugs and kisses | Daily Mail Online

As expected a coverage from Daily Mail (they check Royalista it seems).

:previous: No, Polyesco. That's not a minister escorting Frederik. It's a member of the Presidium and as they take turns in charing the Parliament instead of the Chairman, they can't be ministers.
I can't remember who he is though.

I actually thought the handkerchief was the best detail.

How far does Margrethe's constitutional role still reach (also behind closed doors)? I'm guessing she has more power than her Swedish colleagues?

I'm a big fan of Marie's understated French chic this time. Mary and lace doesn't always give the best results IMO and combined with another fabric it's a bit of a let down. I do love the top part of her outfit though.

BTW Is Mary wearing a new ring? Is that a grey pearl? Looks gorgeous!

The family all look very happy and pleased to see each other. Nice photos of Mary and Frederik. The second photo listed under pictures of Mary and Benedikte (and Frederik) is so lovely it has captured both of them with such happy smiles, on beautiful faces.

Is the Queen wearing a new outfit? I don't think that I have ever seen it .

:previous: She has considerably more power, both directly and indirectly.

The Constitutional role, where no laws are valid without the Monarch's (or Regent or Rigsforstander) signature.
That formally speaking the government is subservient to the Monarch, who dismiss or appoint new governments or ministers.
She is, again formally, the commander in chief and head of the state church.
She must be briefed on important government, state and foreign issues.
- That includes asking questions and commenting on issues, albeit behind closed doors.

The entire DRF work closely with the government (and the Parliament) in regards to diplomacy and foreign relations and not least in regards to commerce and export. - That again means direct influence.

Apart from that there is the personal credit. That means that when the DRF in general and QMII in particular say something, practically the entire country is listening. People may not agree, but they listen. That's something only two or three politicians (or anyone else) can realistically hope for at any given time.

How far does Margrethe's constitutional role still reach (also behind closed doors)? I'm guessing she has more power than her Swedish colleagues?

[...]

Queen Margrethe is as powerless as King Carl XVI Gustaf. Like King Willem-Alexander is as powerless as Queen Elizabeth II etc.

When Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen says no, it is no for Queen Margrethe. When Prime Minister Stefan Löfven says no, it is no for King Carl XVI Gustaf. When Prime Minister David Cameron says no, it is no for Queen Elizabeth II. There is no difference in that, despite all the nice and baroque words about the role of the King.

:previous: I disagree on that one. If it ever came to a showdown between QEII and her government or QMII and her government - I would not place my bet on the governments.
Especially if QMII or QEII "voiced their concerns" publicly.

I don't know enough of the system in the Netherlands to say anything about that.

As for Sweden the opinion and political elite have successfully managed to sideline the King, and in any case they don't to listen to anyone but themselves...

Inspired by a post I saw on Facebook:

No flying hats were seen yesterday at the opening of Parliament, but Mary has not always been so lucky when she has walked up the Parliamentary staircase.

Do you remember this? One of Mary's first official events, one of her first times wearing a hat, lots lots of press a few days before the wedding - and then this happens.

Mary wasn't even married yet, but totally won the Danish population's hearts there. She simply took her to her head and cracked up laughing and you could almost see that she thought: That's so typically :D
