That king is remembered to this day in a very common saying.
King Erik was not any means a successful king. In fact he managed to pretty much throw away all results his step-mother, Queen Margrethe I, has spend all her life building up.
The Danish name for Pomorania is Pommeren.

So when something goes really bad it is still common to say that: "Det går ad Pommeren til!" = Its going down the Pomorania. I.e. substitute "the drain" with Pomorania.
