According to Spanish press, Mas will discuss with the King his plans for a Catalan republic following a unilateral declaration of independence.

The ABC newspaper also reports today that the Spanish intelligence services have uncovered an alleged plan by Catalan separatists in league with leftists elsewhere in Spain to attack and discredit the King. Aparently, their rationale is that a downfall of the monarchy would trigger a collapse of the Spanish State as presently constituted.
 
Yes, they fitted the meeting in with the other regional presidents but this one is clearly different. There will be a catalonian parliamentary election on Sep 27, the platform is called Catalonia Yes We Can.

I think while bringing democracy to Spain was the purpose of Juan Carlos, keeping the unification of Spain intact will be the purpose of Felipe.
 
I wouldn't want to be in Felipe's shoes, he has the toughest job among the European monarchs.
 
Yes, he has to keep the Monarchy in its place and at the same time keep the country from falling apart.
