I guess that is the reason, although at least in Finland civilian women can stand beside a general and accept military salutes. Or maybe the king just wants his son beside him.

Estelle is so adorable!
And the photos of the children greeting the king are so precious. Especially the last one.
I don't follow the Swedish royal family very much, but would I be right in thinking that the King seems to have a knack with children?

No, and nothing like that has been written in the swedish press. The names of the godparents will be announced in connection with the christening. And this isn't the right thread to discuss about this.

Grandpa will get a real surprise on his birthday: Estelle and Leonore. The little princesses should give the king his best birthday gift on his 69th anniversary.
- There are some different plans, confirms Margareta Thorgren from the press department.
It was on the King's birthday in 2012 when Princess Estelle made her official debut for Sweden. She appeared unplanned in the end of the celebration and surprised grandfather King.
At the Palace it is planned for a double surprise in the form of two princesses. Reportedly Estelle will this year be joined by her princess cousin Leonore. It is in such cases the first time they are together at such a big official appearance.
- As many as possible in the family who can attend shall attend at the celebrations for the King, says Thorgren.
The official schedule shows that the King, Queen Silvia, Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Daniel, Princess Madeleine and Prince Carl Philip and Sofia Hellqvist will be present at the celebration. For Sofia it will be the debut on the king's birthday and it will most likely be also for Princess Leonore.
- We'll see. It depends on the shape of the day, but sure, there are plans for congratulating, says Thorgren.
The only family member who is missing is Chris O'Neill.
- No, he can unfortunately not attend because he is booked with something else. He is very sad about this and wishes he could have attended, says Thorgren.

In a way it is nice that the royals came down to the courtyard. But Leonore is too small and restless for that. It is almost too much even for Estelle, the ceremony was so long. At the window they would have been more far away from the event.

Carl Philip accompanied his father just like in previous years, like you can see at the photo I posted earlier to this thread. When the royal family came down to the courtyard, Carl Philip stood behind his father.
