I would hope so lol. I guess they're not talking so as to avoid any public/media scandals?

King Abdullah II will visit the MAKS-2005 airshow... maybe Jordan is going to buy our aeroplanes and/or missiles.

well I cant be too sure, it'd all be speculation.
But I do remember an interview K. Abdullah gave to a CNN soon after stripping hamzah of his title, and he said something like "we have systems in place" to take care of things like that. Im assuming that means he has made provisions for such an event.

What if he doesn't name and heir and Prince Hamzah want's to make his son the next King?Who decides who is going to be the next King if something like this happens? And the last question, what if whoever is the next King doesn't have any sons, who is next heir? Thanks.:)

I guess they'd figure something out. I wonder what would happen if the King were to die while one of his brothers were acting as regent?

My beloved King Hussein of course! ;) :)

Does anyone know why P Hamzah was removed from that position?

How does King Abdullah, at that Prince Abdullah, had the power to do that?

GOd forbid. I think the king's eldest son is named CP by default, unless they have organized smthing else(it depends on the system they have),but in the constitution the eldest son of the King is the CP.

no one has officially been declared crown prince yet.
But the fact that P. Hussein is accompanying his dad to official visits might be an indication that he's being groomed for the role.

And so the JRF is learning from the Moroccan monarchy that they should start grooming the king to-be at a young age. ;)

King Abdullah gave out a very powerful speech today, everyone was shocked by it,It was in a Jordanian Accent a very good one,I was amazed,he sounded sooo cute,I am gonna post the speech but it's 100 times more powerful when u hear it....(Suria,Jordan first ... Did u listen to it...I loved it when he said (takh) and (wafarnalhin...yeshtaghlin,It sounded so Irbidawi..LOL)...

REad it well, and let me know what u guys think...
KA left immediatly after he finished his speech,He didn't give anyone a chance to say anything or even greet him, even Ali followed him after he had already passed the door..AMAZING!

In the name of God, the most merciful, the compassionate
Dear Brothers,
May God Almighty grant you strength and good health, you are
most welcome in this house, your house and that of all Jordanians.
For some time now, I have been thinking that we all should meet,
members of the Upper House, deputies and government, together, since
we are all one team working for the realization of the same goal and
the same interests, that is the national interest, which should top
al other interests and considerations.
If you allow me, let us be frank and admit that there is a certain
degree of failure to do what should be done and that there are
mistakes. The responsibility of this failure and these mistakes are
shouldered by any one party alone, they are the responsibility of all.
I said, brothers, several times that work should be done in a
team spirit, and that all of us, members of the Upper House, deputies

and government, are partners in shouldering responsibility. We all
stand in the same trench. I also said that the relation between the
three authorities, especially the legislative authority and the
executive authority, should be one of cooperation and
complementarity, a relationship built on confidence, respect and
feelings of shared responsibility. But it has been really
disheartening to see that distrust, exchange of accusations and
blame-laying exists. Even more disheartening is the tug of war and
arm-twisting between the government and the deputies.
To be even more frank, brothers, I would say that if the deputies
are not satisfied with the government's performance, they should
know that citizens-and I know the citizens well-are not satisfied
with the performance of our brothers, the deputies.
When we face a problem, each party starts to lay responsibility
at another's feet, or just stands aside as a spectator or observer.
hence the head of state or the King is required to interfere, as if
responsibility is this alone to shoulder. No, my brothers,
responsibility is for all, and everybody should fulfill his duties
and shoulder his responsibility, courageously and faithfully. It is
unacceptable and unreasonable that the King should interfere in
every detail or shoulder all responsibility alone.
Since the days of my father, may his soul rest in peace,
responsible officials used to tell people-whether these officials
wanted to put into effect a certain resolution or whenever the
results of any resolutions were negative-that they were merely
complying with directives from above, meaning directives from the
King. Today we hear the same thing, but instead of saying they had
directives from above, they say they had directives from the peak of
the pyramid.
I know the position of everyone of you, those whoa re shouldering
responsibility now and those who were shouldering responsibility
before, and I am asked to bear with everybody and to accept
everybody, in a fatherly spirit.
Here I hope that every one of you, brothers, should know that
when he leaves office, he is not being exempted from responsibility.
On the contrary, he is a reserve soldier who should have a sense of
his responsibility towards the homeland that honored him with such
a high position and uphold it accordingly.
To see that everything is good and correct while you are in a
position of authority, and then claim that all is wrong when you are
out of office, is a form of logic that is unacceptable and shameful.
Criticism, brothers, is rather easy. The important thing is to
provide alternatives, have a positive and courageous spirit in
facing challenges and suggest realistic solutions to problems.
For example, there is much talk about unemployment and the
failure to "do something" about it. As you all know, I follow this
issue with great interest and concern. I asked the deputies to give
us plans and solutions for dealing with this problem in their
constituencies, but I am sorry to say that I received nothing except
a response from one or two members of parliament. This means that
there is no follow-up. We know that the major cause of this problem
is not the absence of job opportunities, but rather the reluctance
of some citizens to accept vocational or manual work, meaning that
the cause of unemployment is misguided social concepts.
In some governorates, hundreds of jobs were made available, and
the youth were asked to come forward and take them. Only a handful
did, because these youth want office jobs. At the same time, most of
the young women for who job opportunities were made
available-whether manual of vocational work-accepted these jobs and
were comfortable with this type of work. This is really something
positive and a source of pride.

This lead us to the topic of "wasta" (intermediation). I
really wish that every deputy, member of the Upper House or
minister, instead of endeavoring to get jobs for others, would
rather -along with the rest of us- try to change our sons' and
daughters' perceptions of work and jobs.
Our sons and daughters should understand that manual or
vocational work is no less important or less worthy of respect, or
even less rewarding financially, than office work.
They should understand that "wasta" is not an honest deed.
None of our children should start their career in a dishonest honest
way or through a form of corruption.
The challenges before us are immense. They need effort and
real work and they need cooperation and real partnership among all,
rather than the mere talk that is going on at the salons that are
-fortunately- not found, except in certain areas of the capital.
Some of the patrons and attendants of these salons leak rumors and
false news to the foreign press to serve their personal agendas, or
try to intimidate our homeland through their relations with some
foreign forces.
I want these people to know that nobody should ally
themselves with others to intimidate our homeland or try to
intimidate us because we are traveling the path of right. Our
affiliation to the homeland is much stronger than anybody who draws
courage from any other force.
I know these persons, and I Know their goals and
movements. They do not even spare me from their accusations and
empty talk. Also, some weekly newspapers compete in spreading rumors
and lies for financial gain, even at the expense of the national
interest. These newspapers attack in every direction and all those
in charge. We should refrain from joining these newspapers in
promoting whatever rumors, accusations and slander they circulate.
I want every citizen- man or woman - of this country to
know that I am for everybody. Nobody is closer to me than any other,
and the status of any citizen or official is measured- in my
consideration of him- by his honest and decent service to this
country, irrespective of any other consideration.
The challenges we face are much bigger than a discussion
of who wants to be a minister, prime minister, speaker of the House
if Representatives or speaker of the Upper House. The interest of
the homeland supersedes any position or any other gain. It is not
the interest of the homeland that the relation between the
legislative authority and the executive authority is one of struggle
or tug of war, nor is it in the interest of the homeland the when
the Lower House becomes a battleground between blocs or centers of
power, as some people call them.
I know and do appreciate the fears of some of you that
plans exist to redraw the map of the region and to settle some
historic issues at the expense of Jordan. We are talking about the
issue of resettlement and the alternative homeland. Frankly, we in
Jordan - whether our origins are from the west of the river or from
the its east , or from the north or the south of the country -
should stand up to any plan that aims to deprive the Palestinians of
their right to return to their homeland or to establish their
independent state on Palestinian soil, and nowhere else.
If such a plan exists, it is a plot against the
Palestinian people as much as it is a plot against Jordan. I should
not be alone in confronting such a plot, if it exists. No, all of us
should stand up to this danger and this threat, foremost among us
Jordanians of Palestinian origin.
I want every one to know that the only way for us to
confront such plans, if they exist, or any other threat that
endangers this country, is to build a Jordan that is strong, that is
economically, socially and politically advanced. If it is weak, God
forbid, it will become the prey of the strong. If we want to
strengthen Jordan, we should all be working together as a team, and
we should continue along the path of reform, modernization and
development.
This endeavor requires new legislation, the delay of which
will obstruct our progress. We are at the threshold of a new stage
of modernization and development, so I ask all of you to work with
maximum capacity and with the highest sense of responsibility.
When I speak with you so frankly and transparently, it is
because I aspire to the realization of the national interest and
wish to confront head-on any problem that we may face in the future.
God bless you, and my God grant you strength and good
health.

You're right. Thanks for the pictures Alicky!:)

Id love to listen to it ... Ive never really heard him speak the casual (3amiyyeh)Jordanian and not the official (fus7a)... Does anyone have the speach ? Thanks ! :)

AMMAN (Reuters) - Jordan's King Abdullah told conservative tribal deputies on Tuesday to put national interests above petty squabbling, comments officials said were a warning not to block Western-style reforms.

Officials said the king's rare attack on the group that has traditionally been the monarchy's staunchest supporter was meant to head off growing opposition to a programme of accelerated reforms planned by Prime Minister Adnan Badran's cabinet.

No disrespect but King Abdullah is biting the hand that feeds him (metaphorically speaking.) If he alienates those whom form the basis of his support, (unfortunately so) there mightn't be Al-Mamlukia Al-Urdania wa Al-Bini Hashimia (Hashemite Kingdon of Jordan.)

Nothing is wrong with reform so long as it doesn't rip the soul out of what makes such a place so wonderful.

My other point is that he could continue to make reforms as often as he liked. The problem (in certain places) has been due to his inability to meld both the traditional with the positive aspects of Modernity enough for many to know that Jordan helps every single member of Jordan and not just those whom (not insulting them) have the Kings favour thereby not needing to be concerned with poverty and so on.

KA was correct to highlight the problem within the UN which was the successor of the League of Nations. The United Nations was hoped after it's foundation wouldn't make the mistakes of the past. Unfortunately they've made even worse one's. Nothing's wrong with Democracy so long as it isn't used as an excuse to either make an example out of a certain groups of people or to trample on them just because they disagree upon many points and do not (what has been said) co-operate.

The UN has made certain levels of progress, however unless the route of the matter which I feel is the perpensity to maintain the status quo of a Sovereign nation attacking those that are smaller in size than they or otherwise, is dealt with peace will take longer to achieve.

Also there are some that believe that enforcing their way of life upon others has been the means to achieve this aim. As history has shown it has not.

I by no means criticise KA he is a man, whom indeed could make a possitive diffence within the World political stage. However the one's with a little more experience within such matters could really pull together to achieve a positive future.

Howeve it has become apparant that the only thing, which many politicians have been consumed with is perpetuating the need for 'an enemy' farce.

Thereby trying to hold on to their positons.

Voltare said it best (although he wasn't the only one to have made this statement) Irrespective of time, place and circumstance, there are those whom among the Human race are endearing souls, however there are those whom because of their efforts the world hasn't changed much. Dispite the positive efforts of those whom disire true peace and not tyrany under a guise.

Although I've stated my opinion and it is just that, I by no means force them upon anyone within this forum nor do I unsult or point the finger at anyone.:)

On a much happier note, good on KA for highlighting the matter at least he can say that he did, whereas there are others who couldn't. Keep up the good work KA!:)

Bahrain model for Jordan

By SOMAN BABY

MANAMA

A PROGRAMME to implement the Bahrain Model of developing small and medium enterprises (SMEs) is to be launched in Jordan later this month.

The first stage of the programme is a Training of the Trainers (ToT) course, which opens in Amman on August 28.

The project was given the go-ahead following the visit of Queen Rania of Jordan and the Arab Gulf Programme for United Nations Development Organisation (Agfund) chairman Prince Talal bin Abdul Aziz to Bahrain in June.

A full package of the Bahrain Model will now be implemented in Jordan, said United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (Unido) Investment Technology Promotion Office (Itpo) head Dr Hashim Hussein.

"It will include a four-step method -training, counselling, financial linkages and business incubation," he told the GDN.

"The project is being supported by Agfund, King Abdulla Fund for Development, Unido and the National Bank for SMEs in Jordan.

"Queen Rania, who visited the Bahrain Business Incubator Centre (BBIC) in Hidd, had praised the country's successful experience in training entrepreneurs and funding their SMEs.

"She was briefed on the four-step method by BBIC chairman, Finance Ministry Under-Secretary and Higher Council for Micro and Small Enterprises Finance for the Middle East vice chairman Shaikh Ibrahim bin Khalifa Al Khalifa."

The council for micro-financing was formed under the chairmanship of Prince Talal.

Twenty entrepreneurs will attend the ToT programme in Amman initially, said Dr Hussein. "Experts from Bahrain will eventually visit Jordan to review the different stages of the project," he noted.

"The final phase will be the establishment of a business incubator centre like that of Bahrain."

Kuwait and Saudi Arabia are the first two Gulf countries, which have started implementing the Bahrain Model with the support of Unido.

A similar project will be implemented in Abu Dhabi next month. The Bahrain Model has helped establish a large number of SMEs, both at BBIC and outside.

Jordan's King Vows To Reject Taking In More Palestinians
Copyright © 2005, Dow Jones Newswires

AMMAN (AP)--Jordan's King Abdullah II vowed Tuesday to oppose settling more Palestinian refugees in his country amid Arab fears that Israel's withdrawal from the Gaza Strip may not extend to the West Bank.

Abdullah is concerned that if Israel fails to leave the West Bank, which Palestinians want as part of a future state, Jordan may be pressed to settle tens of thousands of Palestinian refugees living in camps scattered across the region, including Syria and Lebanon.

"I know and do appreciate the fears of some of you that plans may exist to redraw the map of the region and to settle some historic issues at the expense of Jordan," Abdullah told an impromptu meeting with members of parliament, Cabinet and former prime ministers before he left for Russia.
