Maturity is not only age and experience but even more a state of mind. Some people never mature and some are mature at a young age.

I think everyone matures to some extent, just not in the same way, unless they are mentally disabled. I have never met anyone who considered themselves mature at a young age, who didn't years later concede that their opinions and outlook on life had changed, through age and experience.

I think you can get sensible youngsters, those that appear mature but, the definition of mature is that 'they are fully developed in mind and body', which in the early years just isn't possible. IMO.

I am glad for Kate but I can't understand why the press are leaving Kate alone recently, a good thing, but the pictures of her were getting published every other day and then nothing.

Just makes me wonder why the press just go for her one minute and then leave her alone.

Oh they're playing a game, trying to goad her into doing things to amuse them, like blushing, or saying something silly, or running away from them. When she won't play the game, they feign loss of interest to 'punish' her. But I don't think she cares, and the press must find that really frustrating!

Wonderful, I hope they blow a gasket!

Thank You. :flowers: I think Luv2cruise meant 'hit the nail on the head', well thats how I read it.:flowers:

I should also have said many people old, middle aged or young can act in an immature way (having been down a giant slide today ....).

Yes, very true. I do agree with a lot of what you said, Skydragon, in response to my long-winded, way-too-psycobabble post on the troubles with inherited wealth. There is only one thing I maintain a strong doubt on. That is the point you made about drug abuse and hard partying not being limited to the wealthy. You are right, but one disadvantage about being an "inheritor" is that you have way more money to spend on alcohol, drugs, and partying than most people. When you are an "aristo-brat" (excuse the term, it's just a simple way to refer to the sub-culture for now) you may drop $2,000 a night on a bottle of champagne or $500 a line of cocaine (I don't know the price of cocaine, but it is very expensive by the line). So while all levels of society indulge in these abuses, it is on a much grander scale for someone of immense inherited wealth. Add to that the fact that it was not earned wealth. There is nothing wrong with a person because they are born into money. But I think when you are born into immense wealth (I am talking about immensely wealthy kids, ones who have trust funds in the multi millions) there is a lot of insecurity to overcome. You might be surprised how much self-esteem can be acquired from a lifetime of hard work and achievement.

About maturity, usually people who undergo tremendous hardships and traumas mature faster. A five-year-old who has a hard childhood (physical abuse, whatever) will mature much faster than a pampered, over-indulged five-year-old.

Sadly, you see many young people without money get into debt to 'feed' their habit, no they don't have their own money to use, so they steal and rob other people, including their family. The rich ones you hear about tend to be the children of pop stars and celebs rather than the ones with a decent trustfund, IME.

So they tell you, I do know a number of 'rich kids' and their rich parents and none of them have ever struck me as lacking in self esteem and confidence in any situation. :)

We will have to agree to differ, I believe far from being more mature, the abused child has to learn to exist but will do the most childish things to survive, even when adults. Not all rich kids are over indulged you know, they too can suffer mental abuse, physical abuse and trauma, these things are not exclusive to any 'class' or financial group.

True, yes, we both have good points, but I sense impending moderator invention because we've gone so far off topic!
So how 'bout that Kate poll?

Well if this is true I don't think Kate has any right to tell any of Williams friends how to act. It's not like she doesn't go to parties either. And shouldn't it be William's decsion who he should and shouldn't be friends with. If this is true, I think Kate's over stepped her boundaries on this one.

I think that whole piece is just made-up "news". If Kate had spoken to Guy about his behavior over the summer, why was she getting photos taken dancing with him over the same time period. William and Harry has been in training for some time. They probably haven't seen a great number of old friends for months. It's easier to pick on Guy, than say the Van Cusem brothers.

It's weird how these stories about Kate appear in spurts. We'll have nothing for weeks at a time and all of a sudden there's four or five things at once.

Apparently we have to calle Kate, Catherine from now on according to Royal expert James Whittiker (sp).

Apparently he met some of Catherines ex school friends and they told him she hated the name Kate and was never called it.

I like Kate, it is friendly and just comes out of my mouth easier than Catherine!

I can understand that, I hate it when people try to shorten my name or that of my children. :flowers:

I had just assumed she herself wanted to be a Kate, most Catherine's I know are known as Kate or Cat.

When friends of my dad(Michael) came to his door and asked my grandmother if Mikey was in, she would tell them nobody of that name lived there!

I myself do not mind my name being shortened, my five cousins (sibblings) have their names shortened and it seems cute but everyone is different.

Also, Princess Catherine sounds MUCH better than Princess Kate, but the press like Kate, goes better in their headlines!

I think it's silly. If she's been called Kate all the time through school and until recently with no problem, why is she now finding a problem with it? Seriously she should just stop being so stupid and pretentious all the time. She should get a job and be thankful that she has so much. Anyone else would love to be in her situation and I daresay wouldn't be half as arrogant. William could drop her at any time and then walk away and she would be nothing and have nothing except her family which would then expect her to get off her arse and find a job.

I agree. If the Palace or Prince Charles has issues with Guy, then that is their business since William will be Prince of Wales and king one day and frankly put, Charles is also William's father. But Kate is not his wife or even fiancee so she has no right to dictate anything to William's friends. Even if they were married she still would have to respect William's choices since they are a part of his life and will be for a very long time. They're not dragging him to drug dens filled with meth and heroin, so ultimately they really can't be that bad. Besides, Guy was nice enough to spend time with Kate at the Virgin party so who is she to be so nasty and snobbish?

It's easier to pick on Guy, than say the Van Cusem brothers.

NOt to mention the Van Cutsems are real society and mingle in royal circles.

I've read that it was Kate herself who changed her name from "Catherine" in high school, according to her friend Jemma Williamson in People magazine last year. I'll have to find it to be more accurate. It seems now that it is Kate, her family who call her Catherine, according to the Daily Mail, the courtiers who are trying to marry William off at 24 (he's still a baby!) or the media who are now trying to re-make her into the more regal Catherine now that she's dating William. The media at least are hoping for some huge wedding next year.

According to the Sunday People William and Kate will be given the title of Duke and Duchess of Cambridge if they get married.

Well if she does marry William someday, it won't matter what she wants to be called, the papers will make up some catchy name for her like they did with Diana, "Shy Di". Unfortunately, you can't stop the media from doing what they want!

It was my understanding that Kate has never referred to herself as Kate and that her friends and family have always called her Catherine.
Since Catherine is her actual given name, shouldn't she be allowed to ask people to use it if that's what she prefers?

Of course, it could be that she never expressed a preference and the tabloid story is just bunk.
I'd bet the article about Kate trying to keep William from being friends with Guy is a lot of hooey also.
It would be a really silly move on Kate's part, too silly to imagine she'd make that type of mistake.

It's not done maliciously, just an affectionate nickname. She's lucky the press is being so nice and indulgent.

So is Fergie, Di, Randy Andy, Wills, Harry, Lillibet, etc.

The press definitely can and will create a nickname for a public figure but I think in private we all have the right to decide what we want to be called by friends and family. And if Kate has decided that she wants to be called Catherine..that is her right. Providing of course, that they story is true.

Does Catherine(lol she doesn't like kate i won't bother her), have blue eyes?
or they are brown?

Well, whatever would we do without James Whittaker telling us how to behave?

I guess we'd have to decide for ourselves how we should address royals and their girlfriends. This guy is such a pretentious dork.
