Wow, everyone looked so good at this grand ceremony. I enjoyed the coverage.

One of these men is Josep Borrell (the one with gray hair), spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs so Letizia didn't something wrong, King Felipe even introduced him to King Carl Gustav and Crown Princess Victoria. The disrespectful would be if Letizia do not greet the King of Sweden and Victoria.

Overall I agree that they all looked good, but, compared to the former emperor’s enthronement, it was a little bit of a downgrade.

I mean, back then, we had Queen Sonja with Empress Josefine’s emerald tiara, Queen Silvia with the Leuchtenberg sapphire tiara, Queen Margarethe with the Pearl Poire, and the Princess of Wales wearing the Cambridge Lovers Knot.
 
In one press photograph, there was a woman sitting in front of Empress Masako in the limo. Does Empress Masako have ladies in waiting?

I'm not sure which photo you are referencing, but unless it has changed in the last couple of months, Masako's chief lady in waiting has been with her since 2015, and is named Yukiko Nishimiya. I believe she is the widow of a former diplomat.

victoria looked stunning in that purple gown. i like maxima repeating that grey gown but the hat needs to go - it is too much. i liked mary's caped gown too. letizia's dress would have been fine for another event (minus that ugly belt) but i think this event called for something a bit more muted (clearly victoria, maxima and mary got the memo on that as they all picked solid gowns in solid colours).

funny comment by WA ironically telling the other royals 'what a nice get together, nice and informal!' as they all greeted each other in their gala gowns, hats and sashes :)

King Felipe and of course Queen Letizia too were in the conversation with the gentlemen but obviously the Queen saw King Carl Gustav approaching and it is definitely more DISRESPECTFUL for her to not greeting the Swedish King and kept continuing the conversation and let it goes on until Carl Gustav has to greet or talk to them himself.

Official photos of Imperial family in traditional dress (sokutai and junihitoe). I don't know who took the Takamado photos but the lighting/flash is bad. Photos for the Emperor and Empress were taken in early October. Akishino famlly photos were taken on October 15 and 19th.

It's a bit funny to see that when the Imperial couple enters the room, only Felipe and two others stand up. Everyone else remain seated and only then they realise, look around and start standing up as well.

So nice and kind at 1.08 from Masako to stop and help Letizia by moving her chair away.

Good Morning , I was wondering if I was the only one to notice the strong resemblance between Empress Masako's evening gown at the banquet , and the gown worn by the then Crown Princess Masako on her wedding day .
 
It kind of looks unformal. They seem unsure about what is happening. I know this is japanese. But that dining hall, it looks so boring and simple. I saw a documentary about King Olav of Norway visiting emperor Hirohito in the 1980s and it looked exactly the same, boring and chaotic.

I believe the then Crown Princess's gown was designed by Hanae Mori , using silk provided as part of the betrothal ceremony . I was so happy to see that radiant smile back on her face.
 
I have maybe missed but have not seen Princess Aiko.
 
Does anyone know whether the tea parties for foreign royal attendees at enthronements are a post-war innovation or a tradition predating the Heisei era?

It's an interesting point that tea parties specifically for foreign royals to the exclusion of other classes of attendees were part of the enthronement festivities of 1990 and 2019, at least. Such royal gatherings are commonplace in Europe, but the royal families of that continent have historical and genealogical reasons to honor one another as members of an extended clan. I wonder what the basis in Japanese culture is for the special consideration given to foreign royal families.

In other cultures the crowning of the new monarch would take a whole day - at least. And in Japan an hour. But it was everything in there!

As Ista alluded to, she is a minor. Not even the future emperor Hisahito was on the guest list. Unlike European monarchies, the Japanese monarchy generally practices more formal etiquette and minors are not commonly present at official ceremonies.

I believe he was wearing the Order of Merit on his necklace and the ribband of the Japanese order of the Chrysanthemum.
