Dukes of Lugo inaugurate exhibition of Spanish painting
The infanta Elena and her husband, Jaime de Marichalar, Dukes of Lugo, inaugurated this night in the Museum Guggenheim of New York the exhibition ' Spanish Painting of the Greek one to Picasso: Time, Truth and History '.
It is a question of a retrospective of 135 works, that they come from more than 70 collections institutional and deprived of the whole world and that it offers a wide historical panorama of the Spanish painting of last five centuries.
The exhibition organized by the Foundation Guggenheim and the State Society for the Cultural Action in the Exterior (SEACEX), will remain opened until March 28, 2007.
After the inauguration a dinner of show was celebrated in the own museum, presided by the Dukes of Lugo and which they attended more than one hundred of guests, between whom there were appearing Carlos Westendorf, ambassador of Spain in the USA, and Juan António Yáñez-Barnuevo, chief of the mission of Spain before the UN, besides representatives of the world of the culture.
The sample organized by topics, and not for chronological order like it is in the habit of doing habitually, gathers compositions of, between others Zurbarán, Murillo, Velázquez, Goya,Gris , Miro and Dalí.
The works monks have classified under fifteen different topics, between them, taverns, landscapes, the domestic world, women publicly and tearful women.
Between other sections the virgins and mothers stand out, nudes, childhood, monsters, gentlemen and ghosts, ladies, crucifixions, fallen and rockets
The work of Goya ' Children of the Cart ', who was foreseen that was forming a part of the exhibition, could not appear, since it was stolen last week in Pennsylvania during movement to New York from the Museum of Art of Toledo, in Ohio (USA).
