In the early days of the Empire, many noble were from the Portuguese Nobility, but incorporated into the Brazilian Nobility.

But the majority of the nobles were Brazilians ennobled by the two Emperors and the Princess Imperial Regent.

Interesting. Thank you for answering my questions. Could one say that the descendants of marriages between Imperial princes and aristocratic Brazilian ladies are members of the nobility?

The children would Princes and Princesses of Orleans-Braganza (as are the children of Prince Alberto and Princess Maritza). But the children of an Imperial Princess and aristocratic gentleman would be regarded as an aristocrat.

It's something like the concept of untitled nobility.

Yes, they are.

I'll try to make it simple:

There are Princes and Princesses of Brazil and Princes and Princesses of Orleans-Braganza. Every Prince and Princess of Brazil is a Prince or Princess of Orleans-Braganza, but not every Prince or Princess of Orleans-Braganza is a Prince or Princess of Brazil.

The Princes and Princess (by birth) of Brazil all have rights to Throne (including the two children of the Princess of Ligne, but they are not a Prince and Princess of Brazil, because the title only pass through the female line when the mother is the heir presumptive of the Throne).

Prince and Princess of Orleans-Braganza was a title created for the non-dynasts descendants of the Princess Imperial and the Count of Eu, so they would never be considered commoners and would be able to keep intermarrying with other Royal Houses.

Yes of course, like the famous Countess of Paris. So a Orléans-Braganza would be considered an equal match for a Prince of Brazil?

Yes. That would be an interesting scenario.

The formidable Countess of Paris is a good example. Her brother, Prince Pedro Gastão, married Princess Esperanza of the Two-Sicilies, aunt of King Juan Carlos of Spain, while her sister, Princess Maria Francisca, married the late Duke of Braganza, and was the mother of the current Duke.

Prince Pedro Gastão's daughter, Princess Maria da Glória, was the first wife of Crown Prince Alexander of Serbia and the mother of this three sons.

Princess Anna Luiza of Orleans-Braganza, a niece of the Head of the Imperial House, was regarded as potencial suitable wife for the then Prince of Asturias, now King Felipe VI. And Grand Duchess Charlotte of Luxembourg would have loved if her grandson, Grand Duke Henri, had married one of the Head of the Imperial House 's sisters (although they were Princesses of Brazil as well).

Where there any plans for Henri to marry one of the Brazilian girls? I've always thought it was only his mother that was disappointed with his unequal marriage. Never thought about his grandmother (even though I knew she was alive at the time of his marriage)

Grand Duchess Charlotte was a friend of Prince Pedro Henrique, then Head of the Imperial House of Brazil, and his wife, born Princess Maria of Bavaria. She even attended their wedding.

Prince Pedro Henrique and Princess Maria's youngest children were twins Princesses Maria Thereza and Maria Gabriela. Both were very desidered by European aristocrats and royals during their youth, because of their looks, lineage and artistic talent.

Grand Duchess Charlotte was keen on the idea of Grand Duke Henri marry one of them, but we all know he fell in love with that beautiful Cuban girl. At least Grand Duchess Charlotte lived to see to of her grandchildren marrying children of Prince Pedro Henrique and Princess Maria: when Prince Michel and Princess Christine of Ligne married Princess Eleonora and Prince Antonio of Brazil, in 1981.

Dr. Pablo Trindade de Souza (b. 1 May 1980) [son of Evandro Romeu de Souza and his wife Isis Maria, nee Trindade] & his wife Princess Maria Elisabeth of Orleans-Braganza (b. 1 March 1982) [eldest of the three daughters of Prince Francisco of Orleans-Braganza (b. 1955) and his former wife Princess Claudia Regina, nee Lisboa Martins Godinho] had their first child, a daughter, Maria Isabel de Orleans e Bragança de Souza, yesterday, 29 November 2015, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The couple married on 6 August 2011, at the Church de Nossa Senhora da Glória do Outeiro, in Rio de Janeiro.

It's the first grandchild of the maternal grandparents. Their two other daughters, twins Princesses Maria Eleonora and Maria Thereza of Orleans-Braganza (b. 1984), are still unmarried.

Princess Maria Elisabeth and her daughter are both doing well, assisted by Dr. Pablo and the maternal grandmother, Princess Claudia.

Pró Monarquia released today the Christmas message of Prince Luiz, Head of the Imperial House of Brazil. For the first time, the message was released on video. Curiously, this years is also the first the President of the Republic will not broadcast a Christmas message to the Nation (not that we will miss a message from that horrible woman :whistling:).

The poor Prince looks frail. :sad: I first met him when I was just a little girl, many many years ago.

Pró Monarquia released two pictures of Prince Luiz, Head of the Imperial House of Brazil, and his brother and heir, Prince Imperial Bertrand of Brazil. The pictures were taken on Dia de Reis, "Kings' Day" (an equivalent the Twelfth Night holiday, I think). The Princes were presented with a "Kings' cake" by a monarchist lady. To celebrate the birth of Jesus, the cake was surrounded by Brazilian sweets called "bem-nascidos" (well-born).

With the news about Princess Alix's engagement, I forgot to post this here.

On the 2 of February, the Prince Imperial of Brazil turned 75. Pró Monarquia, the Secretariat of the Imperial House, offered a dinner in his honor, held in a French restaurant in São Paulo.

One of the Prince Imperial's many nephews, Prince Gabriel of Orleans-Braganza, was present, along with Prince Casimir of the Two-Sicilies and his wife, Princess Maria Cristina, nee of Savoy-Aosta. Many monarchists, personal friends of the Prince and a few authorities were also present.

Three speeches were made in honor of His Imperial and Royal Highness.

On April 24, Prince Rafael of Brazil turned 30. Two days later, at their house, in São Paulo, his uncles, Prince Luiz, Head of the Imperial House of Brazil, and Prince Bertrand, Prince Imperial of Brazil, honored him with a birthday party.

Another nephew, Prince Pedro Alberto of Orleans-Braganza (firstborn son of Prince Alberto and Princess Maritza) was also present. Among the guests, members of the Imperial House Secretariat and young monarchists. Prince Rafael received hundreds of congratulatory messages from all over Brazil.

Prince Luiz encouraged his nephew to fulfill his mission as a Prince of Brazil and future Head of the Imperial House. Prince Rafael reaffirmed his promise, made after the death of his older brother, to always serve Brazil.

I think the tone of the interview is very tendentious (not sure if this is the right word). And I don't know if the interview was conduct in Portuguese or in English, but, having heard the Prince Imperial talking about all those subjects, I can tell you much of what he said was lost in translation.

The things he say about the Indiginous population needs some clarification: he has a problem with the policy of the now-defunct PT Government, that almost forced the native Brazilians to live like they lived in 1500, in sub-human conditions. Like if they were in a zoo, as the Prince said.

And it's well known the level of corruption and irregularities in government agencies responsible for the native Brazilians and historical black communities. The last one marked by a deep sense of Marxist class struggle.
 
Prince D. Bertrand participated in an interview yesterday with Mariana Godoy.

The episode opens with a view into the São Paolo home of the Prince, which he shares with his older brother Prince D. Luiz, and which is filled with objects which recall the history of Brazil and its imperial family.

In a poll taken by Godoy earlier in the week on Twitter, it was found that 41% of respondents would be in favor of a monarchy--this was a higher number than any of the other political options offered were able to command.

Dom Bertrand and his so-called "Vassouras branch" of the imperial family are a reactionary, ultraconservative group that does considerable damage to the monarchist cause in Brazil. The so-called "Petropólis branch" on the other hand, which is the legitimate most senior line of the House Orlléans-Bragança, has a much more modern outlook and stands for a progressive constitutional monarchy along the liines of the restored Spanish monarchy.
 
Dom Bertrand, his brothers, sister-in-law, nephew and niece are very popular within the monarchist movement. Just yesterday, they reunited almost 200 monarchists (half of them, people under 30) in Rio de Janeiro, for 26th National Monarchist Meeting. Not to numerous Imperial flags seen in the recent anti-Government demonstrions.

Brazil is a country where the majority of the population is conservative, so I guess a conservative Imperial Family isn't going to be a problem (quite the opposite).

Members of the Petrópolis branch show no interest in the monarchists. Many of them, inclunding it's "head", Dom Pedro Carlos, have declared themselve republicans. Which is hardly a problem, as the 1908 renunciation of Prince Pedro de Alcantara is recognized by 99.9% of the Brazilian monarchists.

I suppose almost all the Brazilian monarchists respect the Vassouras branch very much.
 
Apparently not everybody from the Petropolis branch is republican and not interested in the monarchy; I've just found this interview to Prince João Henrique de Orléans e Bragança, who supports the restoration of the monarchy in Brazil.
However, and not unsurprisingly IMO, he doesn't support the ideas and political activities of his "Vassouras" cousins, especially of Prince Bertrand, and suggests that - in case of a monarchical restoration - it should be the Parliament to decide who the new Emperor should be.
