I wrote this earlier when the site was having problems, so I copied & saved it & am reposting it now. But I just noticed I had missed reading a few posts & have just read Albert's Message. I'm not sure if I would have wrote anything different. I didn't realize he was getting that much criticism or to what extent the internal problems (although Cote hinted), that he would respond so strongly. Seems like he is having to deal with much the same as his father did, in his first few years. I think they would put any new guy to the test & see, If? Where? How hard? Albert can be pushed & see where they might have some leverage, if any? I think they will find he will be his father's son in many ways and much sooner than his father earned that reputation. I have posted before that I think the first few years of any government is always shaky and this is when the problems are discovered, the kinks worked out, and you need to clean house. I think Albert kept some of his father's guys, he needed for continuity for awhile & some he thought who could make the transition & be loyal to him after working for his father. He's just finding out who will work out & who wont. I don't think this is unusual?
He has a pretty unique situation as well. I liked his message, but I would be able to take him more serious, if he could drop his preference for bimbo's image, for a preference for women with some substance & depth. He can't show up on the world stage with someone like Charlene. It's time to grow up & put his play things away.
Hi Hibou,
That has always been my feeling. I have not had a problem with Albert traveling for this reason, I do think he is doing exactly this, and is probably making headway in a lot of ways
we do not hear about, and that will probably benefit him and Monaco in the future. Although, I think I might have to disagree that he is able to send someone else for a few different reasons, one, he is new on the stage and is introducing
himself, Another reason being, considering Monaco's size and importance in how it rates in the world, he cannot afford to send a lackey (especially being new). That would not sit well with more powerful governments - We all know how that game works. He has shown that he is this smart (IMO) and I think he would like to expand Monaco's image globally & give it a more serious platform or role in the world. (JMO?)
I do believe you are right. I also think he has not completely made the shift in that he is now the ruling Monarch - He is trying to manage his new position as well as continuing to play the part of the "goodwill ambassador" (as someone suggested), which was required of him when his father was still alive, and I guess he will still have to manage this to some extent??
His father was right in trying to teach Albert about not attending everything. His attendance is nothing special or honored, if he makes himself too available. I think too, he is perhaps attending too many galas & less important engagements. Women understand this concept just from dating, we know we have to make ourselves scarce & unavailable, and to become someone that is thought to be a little bit special (unlike any woman Albert's ever experienced)
. I think when he shows up at an event with Charlene, it gives the appearance that the event is purely social, and less important. Charlene does not understand the concept above, or she would not want to over saturate the market with herself, which they both have already done with her? Whatever their plans?
I don't blame Albert for feeling claustrophobic at times in Monaco. It's a small place, he's lived there most of his life & he is very public, hence the reason why I don't understand why he doesn't have a desire to keep his private life private? Relationships or otherwise? It seems it is more a PR problem that he hasn't learned to balance. He should take private holidays, but I don't see a reason to announce them. They did announce he would be in the Maldives with friends & family for his birthday? You have to know that would only invite the press after Charlene being flaunted on the cover of Paris-Match? Now they are announcing his Midwest vacation? Why? At least, take the word
vacation out of it & say he will be
visiting the Midwest, if they must say anything at all?
When he is in Monaco working and doing good things for Monaco and it's people, that is when his PR team should be busy? Instead he is making great efforts in drawing attention to his private life. Charlene's appearance at everything & everyday, makes it look like his life is one big party, while he's in Monaco anyway -- his job appears to take on a purely social aspect. Because Charlene is not really in the political position to be Albert's constant companion, as she seems to be, it discounts everything he attends with her? I felt the timesonline.Uk article was a little harsh in regard to his traveling outside Monaco so much and I'm sure he feels he can't win either way. But since he is new at his job, he should try to at least give the impression that he takes it seriously, which I'm sure he does. I think they need some new PR people, or Albert needs to stop ignoring them, if that indeed is the problem. I hope we continue to see him working, and functioning w/o the distraction of his currant escort, at least for a few things. I actually enjoy seeing and reading about what Albert can! and plans to do for Monaco, when there seems to be the right focus. I know this is Monaco's social season but Albert's image is lacking balance. (IMO)
I also think all the talk about him having a private plane, his traveling, or talk about the Grand Prix (which is Monaco history), not being green, is nonsense! He is a ruling Monarch -- Is he really suppose to show up on a bike? Should he empty out the ports & dump or thin everybody out of Monaco? I think he is trying to do what he can do? Monaco is not an easy place to make green. I think this is a sincere issue for him & he is trying to do something on a larger level. I hate when everyone makes it an all or nothing issue?
Hey! It's not that easy being green
Sorry, I really didn't mean to write a book, feel free to scan (or not).
