It was nice to see King Juan Carlos and the Infanta Elena out and about in Cambados
PPE Agency

Now with Queen Sofia currently out of action ,the SRF now only have 2 working Royals -The King and Queen and they are both in the Netherlands next week.
I wonder if Infanta Elena might start to perform some of her mothers duties while Queen Sofia recuperates?

Infanta Elena is not a member of the Royal Family, and therefore she is not going to fulfill her mother's official agenda. Queen Sofia has a very limited number of official activities. Much of her activities now are not institutional but they are related to her Foundation, and they will postpone them.

The Infanta has carried out a number of official duties since 2014 despite her downgrade.

She has one or two events a year that are related to things she has been involved with for many years, such as the Paralympic Committee or the awards ceremony for the National Heritage Children's Painting Competition... the same thing happened with her aunts. But that does not mean that she returns to more relevant events on the official agenda.

The official agenda is more or less based on 2 people for the coming years. Sofia will be 86 this year, it is a question of time how long she can go on doing even limited events, certainly not another 7 years.
If Leonor follows her fathers educational path, she will be studying until 2031.

The Spanish Royal Family has still not attended the Prince of Viana Awards ceremony.
Their last appearance was in 2015 and since then they have not received the invitation from the Government of Navarra to award culture.
Will the Spanish Royal Family create some awards linked to the Principality of Viana? This is a question for which there is still no answer.

Video of the speech the last time King Felipe VI attended these awards:

Why would they want to do that? I don’t believe they have (royal) awards for every region and apparently there are already regional awards - that they just no longer get invited too.

I would think that trying to compete (or to be perceived competing) with the regional government would not go over well and can only lead to disappointment.

It maybe a political decision ,there was also an annual memorial Mass to the Monarchs of Navarre which has also gone by the wayside
The day of the Red Cross is another one.

The day of the Red Cross is another one.

Red Cross Day is celebrated every year in May and is presided by the Queen... what is not celebrated is the October donation collection, but that is a decision of the Madrid Red Cross that will have decided to modify its forms to collect donations.

The problem in Navarra is a totally political issue, because currently Bildu, a far-left, pro-independence and pro-ETA party, is a minority partner of the PSOE in the Government of Navarra and they reject this type of acts with the Monarchy.

All the more reason not to get involved - including not starting a rival award scheme. At some point they might start being invited again if the political constellation changes.

The situation caused by the local politicians need for recognition is so petty. Like if they want the locals to believe only their party members control the opinion and the history of the area. The monarchy is part of our history since Asturias initiated the recovery of the land from the invaders. The king is a Borbon/Bourbon descending from the kings of Navarra that removed the Valois. His family should be invited and instead the politicians want to make everything into a statement to benefit themselves only, not the history of the Award.

Are they going to rename it The President of Vianna Awards?
