General News about the Swedish Royal Family, Part 2: January 2021 -

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
There's also the age gap between Madeleine and Victoria. What Victoria was able to interest herself in, Madeleine may not have been able to. Perhaps he was better equipped to teach someone Victoria’s age. CP may not have wanted anything that smacked of more traditional academics.

He didn’t actually say anything terribly negative about CP or Madeleine. The former is not academically inclined; the latter has been capricious. Not only is he not a doctor, lawyer, or a priest, people already know this. Two stressed and overprivileged kids didn’t behave; one did. So what?

It would have been far more shocking if he’d said anything about Victoria, since she’s so loved and pretty much sacrosanct and eventually dealt with the stress by becoming physically and emotionally ill. Maybe being able to act out and be flawed would have been healthier for her?

Then he could have kept his big mouth shut.
I don't think it's very professional for a teacher to say anything about his pupils, even many years later. And if he has to say anything, don't be negative.
After all no one forced him at gunpoint to say a word, right?
Both Madeleine and CP are still alive. And AFAIK they haven't committed anything so grave that it is in the public interest to know how they acted or performed as pupils.

And his words are in the eyes of the reader:
So I can interpret his words thus:
Madeleine: A spoiled bimbo. A know-it-all who wouldn't listen to me. Me! The esteemed Herman Lindqvist!
CP: Good looking and presentable, but daft as as wet moss and the only chance of CP getting a Nobel Prize is if it drops on his head.
Victoria: Wonderful girl! Beautiful girl! She listened to me and my words of wisdom. She took interest in me and my words of wisdom. She asked questions and wanted to learn more from me and hear more words of wisdom, from me. A perfect pupil, perfect!

- You see my point?

You can interpret this in terms of Lindqvist’s supposed-egotism and Jante all you like, but he’s still not saying anything about CP and Madeleine that people don’t know. No one’s reputation is damaged. This won’t be national news tonight.

The thought of my teacher or yours talking about me or you is uncomfortable because we’re not public figures. I’m not seeing a great breach of trust. Did CP really come once and decide he couldn’t hack it? Did Madde do something even ruder than treating him like another servant? Did Victoria break down crying one day or throw a book or swear? We’ll never know that.

All I’m seeing is CP and Madeleine behaving pretty much the way you’d expect kids raised under those circumstances might be, and Victoria behaving the way everyone expected her to be. And almost certainly none of that’s got anything to do with Lindqvist — who as the historian is an observer by nature.

Haha, indeed!
I have met Lindqvist quite a few times, since I've been working in the book business my whole life. It was a surprise to everybody that they chose him as a teacher actually. And that's about all I have to say about him. I try to live by that device you mentioned; if you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything. ;)

Hasn’t Lindqvist been a persona non grata in the Court since bashing the choice of name for Estelle?

Anyhow, the change in the succession saved the Swedes from a fate worse than death…

Then we shall graciously disagree on our views of the remarkable Herman Lindqvist.

Two things though: A teacher is a teacher. A position of trust. Whether his pupils are royals or whether they like me are akin to but a speck of dust on Lindqvist's sleeve.

I don't personally adhere much to the Law of Jante, but I believe even historians can be, shall we say, aloof.

Its pretty much common knowledge in Sweden that nobody speaks as well of Herman Lindqvist as the man himself. He's also known for not letting the truth getting in the way of the truth. Both privately and on the job.

I'll say something about his books. He's a very good writer, his books are greatly entertaining. However, he's completely unreliable. He makes things up to fill gaps in the historical documentation. He's not a historian, he's a journalist, he wants to tell a good story . We always joked about that maybe we should label him "historical fiction" and not file him under history. He got a lot of flack from Academia, rightfully so.
That's why eyebrows were raised when he became Vic's history teacher.

"My home-carved version of Erik XIV's crown from 1561. The original is made of, among other things, gold, rubies and diamonds. Mine is made from cardboard from a breakfast cereal packet, glue, acrylic paint, fimolera, nail polish, plastic beads and plastic gems."

"Why be awarded an Order of Seraphim when you can make one yourself?"

"Here is my variation of the Cameo tiara, my absolute favorite tiara in the royal collections."

"Here is my version of the Leuchtenberg sapphire set, one of the finest sets in the royal collections in my opinion"

King Carl Gustaf was invited on Monday to Mantorp Park race track in Östergötland by BMW for a private course evening. The King drove his private BMW M8 Competition Coupé and had Carl Philip with him. Svensk Damtidning had a chat with Mantorp Park's CEO Fredrik Sjöqvist who could tell us more about the event.
- We do a lot of courses like this where you practice driving your car and do various safety exercises. We do quite a lot of days like this and it was just like any other. With nice weather and happy people.
Fredrik Sjöqvist tells that they often conduct courses at the race track. They give guests the opportunity to drive at speeds that are not allowed on public roads.

Queen Silvia and Madeleine were walking in Central Park in New Work and then went shopping. They were seen strolling Veronica Beard, one of Madeleine's favorite stores.
They attend events with the World Childhood Foundation in New York on September 25-27.

More photos, queen Silvia and Madeleine had with them Lena Kaplan, queen Silvia's close friend and a member of the Board of the World Childhood Foundation.

Next week is the autumn holiday at Stockholm's schools.
The King and Queen will be in Brazil, the King attends events with World Scout Foundation on October 26-27 and Queen Silvia has events with World Childhood Foundation on November 4 and November 6.
The King and Queen have then a work event in Stockholm on November 11.

Madeleine will be the temporary regent from Friday, when the King is traveling to Brazil.
The week after that, Victoria becomes the temporary regent, news agency Siren reports.

On Friday, King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia travel on a private trip to Brazil with Victoria, Daniel, Carl Philip, Sofia and their children.
Margareta Thorgren:
- It is autumn holiday. The trip has been planned for a long time to give the Queen an opportunity to show Brazil to her children and grandchildren. The Queen will carry out activities with Childhood and the King with the World Scout Foundation. As Princess Madeleine is at home in Sweden, the task of temporary regent falls to her. The trip is well planned, which means that there are no tasks that the head of state has that will be carried out during this time. The court is in constant contact with the King and should any event occur for which it is judged that the head of state needs to be in Sweden, there is planning for that.
The King is away for two weeks, between October 25 and November 8.
On Friday next week Victoria has traveled home and acts as temporary regent.

I did not realize that Sweden has a temporary regent system, seems like less fanfare than Denmark. Perhaps Victoria acting as temporary regent happens so overwhelmingly that it not news when she steps in.

The temporary regent is used when the King is outside Europe, so it's not happening very often.

Makes you wonder why Madeleine and her family are not joining them on this meaningful family trip.

This may be for the sake of safety and common sense. It would be risky to go to the whole family and not stay in Sweden.

I agree, Madeleines family is not mentioned though, does it mean her children go with their fahter/ grandparents/cousins or will the whole family stay behind?

The plans were changed. The Marshal of the Realm Fredrik Wersäll had already announced that "All members of the Royal House who are part of the current succession to the throne" were to come along for the first week of the trip to Brazil, and therefore Speaker of the Riksdag Andreas Norlén was needed as temporary regent.
On Tuesday, new news came - Madeleine will remain at home in Sweden.
Deputy director of the information department, Johan Tegel:
- The plans were changed. It is true that the plans were changed, Princess Madeleine and her family have chosen to remain in Sweden during the autumn holidays. This concerns a private trip, and I therefore have no further information to provide.

Thanks, that honestly makes it even weirder... Why did they drop out on this family vacation to their (grand)mother's home country on the last minute?

Illness perhaps? Or maybe now the children have settled into new schools the opportunity to socialise with newly made friends has arisen and its no longer desirable for them to be out the country for the whole 2 week break and miss socialising opportunities.

The good thing IMO is that Madde and family were going to be included.

The autumn holiday at the Stockholm schools is only one week, that's why Victoria will return on Friday November 1st and be the temporary regent from November 2nd until the King is back in Sweden.

So if someone isn't well now it makes sense to cancel as Madde and family would have to return to Sweden ready for the second week as well.
