Svensk Damtidning contacted Margareta Thorgren about when the king and queen will receive their covid-19 vaccinations. In Sweden, the vaccination began a little over two weeks ago. Margareta Thorgen said that the King and Queen have not been vaccinated yet and that in Sweden, we have a in turn strategy. And the royal family follows the rules of order. There is a planning going on with the royal family's chief physician. The King and Queen are very positive that the vaccination has now begun in Sweden.

The Queen is also doubtful about how society has succeeded in its goal of protecting the elderly during the pandemic.
“It is extremely frightening that so many elderly people have died in the pandemic in Sweden. And it was with sadness in my heart that I saw that all the elderly who died became just a number in the statistics. Old people sat alone with their anxiety and their pain.”

[...]

Queen Silvia sits opposite me and tells me how difficult it was, when the infection was ravaging our nursing homes the most, to sit isolated at Stenhammar Castle and not be able to do anything for the elderly.
“It is easy to imagine the pain that all the elderly feel in isolation. I understand that the authorities want well but people are suffering."
I follow up by asking if we have succeeded in our most important mission, to protect the elderly during the pandemic.
"It depends on how you see it… but preferably I want to avoid answering that question."
I understand that a clearer answer can ignite the criticism of the part of the Swedish strategy that would protect the old and fragile. And there the Queen is careful, but the silence in the answer gives a hint.

[...]

Together with Ingvar Kamprad and Ikea, the Queen developed a modern form of senior apartments for couples who lived a whole life together and would now have the opportunity to live together even when one of them suffers from Alzheimer's. The Queen saw these six apartments as a pilot project to perhaps develop into a model for the whole of Sweden.
But the Queen's neighbors have stopped patients from moving into their homes. On paper for formal reasons. And for the past three years, they have been completely empty.
"This makes me very sad, that you (neighbors, authorities) can not see that it is a well-meaning project and that I do it with my heart."
I ask if the Queen deep down suspects that the real reason why the neighbors want to stop SilviaBo is due to prejudice and that but do not want dementia so close to them.
"I do not dare to ask because I am afraid it is so. It is so painful and cruel that we have nice apartments that are just empty.”

Drottning Silvia om tiden i karantän_ ”Så mycket 70-plus”

I am very much impressed at the Queen's empathetic words and her efforts to speak up for those who are experiencing neglect or cruelty.

Queen Silvia has given a large interview to Aftonbladet digitally

[...]

It has also emerged that many of elderly people are not so worried. Barbro Westerholm, the Riksdag's oldest member, said in an interview this week that it must be because of everything difficult elderly people have been able to participate through life. Does the Queen recognize the senior perspective?
- I understand what she means. The king also mentioned it in his speech, if you have been in difficult situations you have a knowledge that is important. Not to let yourself panic, to see that there is light at the end of the tunnel. It is especially important for our young people to think about it.

[...]

I also admire her talent for striking a supportive and personal note in her messages during the pandemic.

Thank you very much for the translations.

King Carl Gustav and Queen Silvia received their first dose of the vaccine against Covid-19 today at Stenhammar Palace where they are currently in residence.

The Court had previously let it be known that the couple was awaiting their turn in line with no preferential treatment and that plans had been drawn up by the court physician for when and how the vaccination would happen. The vaccination today follow the news that everyone living in care homes in Stockholm have been vaccinated.

Margareta Thorgren confirmed to Expressen yesterday that the king and queen are feeling well after Friday's vaccination at Stenhammar Palace, where they are currently staying. They will also be there for some time to come. Thorgren said that everything happens according to the recommendations, this is a planning that has been going on for a while for the the king and queen, as they are in risk group 70+.
The Swedish Public Health Agency has decided that people over 70 should be vaccinated in phase 2, which begins in February at the earliest. There are no details why the king and queen have been vaccinated already now.
Thorgren said that they have no information about when the other members of the royal family will have their vaccinations.

So, if I understand it correctly, the king and queen announced they did not want preferential treatment and that's why (or nonetheless) they received preferential treatment - given that they don't live in a care home but are part of the general 70+ population that is expected to receive their vaccine at the earliest in February?!

Good to hear that Silvia and Carl Gustaf have had the vaccine, but I do hope there was no "special treatment" and others have been vaccinated in Sweden already.

The queen had the vaccine when most of the UK's elderly population had already had it too (many elderly Brits are starting to have their second doses already).

I am a bit surprised that they got their first shot of vaccine so soon. According to the latest figures by Region Stockholm the inhabitants of the care homes in the region have mostly been offered the vaccines by now, the staff of the hospitals have also been offered the vaccine and the staff of care homes and home care units have been placed on a special list that will allow them to be vaccinated over a period of three months (that period of time is heavily criticised but the authorities refuse to budge) which means that the next category of people to be offered the vaccine are those over 70 first those with home care and then those without. The King and Queen seems to be getting it quite early on in this category but as its been said they got it on the advise of their doctors. There is the possibility that they're taking precautions because of health issues not known to the public.

Today is Karl's Day and the King's Name Day. The king shares the name Carl, which is ancient Nordic and means "free man", with many of his predecessors on the throne.
The name Carl has also been inherited by the King's son Prince Carl Philip, and two of the King's grandchildren have Carl as their second name (Prince Oscar Carl Olof and Prince Gabriel Carl Walther).
The King's Name Day is a general flag day in Sweden and the Armed Forces pays attention to the day by firing salutes from salute stations around Sweden.

Swedish TV4 and the streaming service Cmore have just made public their plans to make a series about the life of King Carl Gustav. The series is being described as a Swedish "The Crown". The series will cover his life from birth up until present day and will have six episodes.

I personally fear that what we'll get is more a lot of nazis and busty broads than Claire Foy.

Margareta Thorgren to Svensk Damtidning about the swedish "The Crown"
- We have not been involved in that process. However, a number of years ago we were in contact with the screenwriter Åsa Lantz, so we know that the script was planned. The royal family knows that too. It is only now that we see that the project has moved on. But we do not know the tonality.
What does the king himself think of this?
- I have no information about that.
Has the court helped with information?
- Regarding questions about the documentary part. We have been there. Of course, they want the documentary part to be as close to the truth as possible, and we have helped with that.
Will any other members of the royal family appear in the drama series?
- You should ask this from the production.

Royal expert and historian Herman Lindqvist says to Svensk Damtidning that he fears the worst. Now you should not judge this in advance, but he has bad suspicions. The nightmare scenario is that there will be no serious portrayal, that it would be made in a way that is unfavorable to the king.

Aftonbladet's royal expert Jenny Alexandersson's article about king Carl Gustaf
"King Carl XVI Gustaf - important facts about the king"
Some things from it:
The king loves to bargain at flea markets, preferably on Öland.
Wears his wedding ring on his little finger, next to his signet ring.
He is 176 cm tall.
To gather energy, the king goes for walks, goes out into the woods or goes by boat on the sea.
He likes crayfish parties and has an impressive repertoire of schnapps songs. He also loves masquerades.
He is careful about security when he stays in hotels. He always looks for where the exits are and he always has a travel kit with lights and smoke detectors with him.

Queen Silvia has written in a letter via her secretary: “Her Majesty the Queen has asked me to express her most heartfelt congratulations on your birthday. The Queen sends many warm greetings and wishes you all the best ”.
Dagny Carlsson has visited the Palace and she then received an invitation to Solliden. But due to the pandemic, the visit to Öland has had to wait.
- It would have been in the summer.
