And yes, I recall QMII's remark towards a journalist. And I had no pity for him.
If he can't figure out how to use one simple word when addressing the head of state, perhaps he should seek another job.
Imagine a DK journalist, not once, but several times addressing say the German chancellor with "Du" instead of "Sie". I think that journalist will be called in for an unpleasant talk with the editor afterwards.
Polite and correct address is not rocket science.
Okay, M&F don't seem to mind or notice when someone (usually someone in the crowd) address them with informal you. That is IMO perhaps a wise policy PR wise - at present. Unfortunately that opens a door wide open for it to be acceptable to address them informally once they become king and queen. And that I think is inappropriate. It somehow devaluates their position.
IMO you are
not informal with the head of state, let alone their equal.
