I like Charlotte's outfit best of all: summery weight and cut, covers enough to be appropriate for a cathedral and for the occassion, the soft gray color gives it a little gravitas, a little jewellery to make it festive, upswept hair is flattering and regal, discreet makeup, and overall elegant and flattering.

Caroline's outfit is nice and suitable, but too winter-y, with a heavy cut and black and white tweed. She looks lovely as always though.

I like Stephanie's outfit, but yes it is too casual for such an event. She also looks terrible: worn, exhausted. I wonder if the lines on her face may be due to her fitness regime and diet: very low body fat makes a person look older than normal (it takes away the plumpness from the face which makes lines more noticeable). Maybe also years of tanning catching up with her? I don't know, but she does look older and less healthy (if that's the word I'm thinking of) than her siblings her who are quite a bit older than her.

Maybe she should try eating more fish; salmon is supposed to be good for that sort of thing:p

Christian on the right :) ...well, so he's there.
And Stephanie smiling at her nephew Pierre during the mass.

Caro has been very sweet, like her little sister..at the moment of the toast, Albert turned to her first and she sent him a little kiss.

I've also noticed that for whole day Andrea has followed his uncle, first after the Mass, then, after the toasts in the Place du Palais, he was the only member of the family who went with Albert for the whole tour among the citizens...I don't know if it's a dynastical sign, but I surely liked seeing so much of Andy! Plus I heard him say a phrase in a very good English!

Kisses

So cute photo of Caroline and Alexandra! And thanx everyone for posting great photos, and comments for us who couldn't watch.:)

It was so happy day for family and Monaco..I beleive Prince Albert will be great ruler also..:)

I hope Andrea's behavior today is indicitive of what we will see. It would be great to see him step in as next in line (I doubt Caroline would ever take the job), at least until Albert has a child. It would certainly restore glamour to Monaco (not that it ever really left).

I know there is still hope for Albert to marry and have children and I'm sure Andrea knows it as well (maybe he also hopes it, who knows)...I just thought it signicative that he was so close to Albert the whole day.

I've also noticed that Andrea was very nice when they were touring among the people; the crowd was incredible, he and Albert could barely walk (I think I would have fainted for the pressure of the crowd) but he followed Albert closely, and smiled, and talked to whoever approached him...

I think it's good that he starts to learn, even if probably he won't become the next sovereign.

Kisses

Was Camille there, is that Stephanie's youngest daughter's name? I didn't see her in any pictures.

I also feel that Stephanie's children look more like Princess Grace, thus Prince Albert than anyone else.

12 JULY 2005

Its sparkling waterfront and scenic streets bedecked with red and white flags, the Mediterranean principality of Monaco launched a new era on Tuesday as Prince Albert, the only son of the late Prince Rainier, formally began his reign.

A morning mass marked the beginning of the day of ceremonies celebrating the 47-year-old bachelor's accession to the throne.

As crowds gathered outside the 19th-century cathedral, the archbishop of Monaco, Monsignor Bernard Barsi, led a solemn service in which he asked God to grant the new monarch "wisdom and intelligence" as well as "a kind heart, to govern fairly and distinguish between good and evil".

Among those taking a place of honour during the 75-minute service were the prince's elder sibling Princess Caroline, her husband, Prince Ernst-August of Hanover, and younger sister Princess Stephanie. Also in the congregation were a number of Albert's nieces and nephews, including Caroline's eldest children, Andrea – who is now second in line to the throne behind his mother – Pierre and Charlotte.

During the morning's sermon, the archbishop declared that the newly enthroned prince should be considered "the head of our family". And in the spirit of that sentiment, it seems, Albert made sure that Tuesday's events were truly a family affair for his subjects. After the mass, the prince returned to the royal palace to host a garden party for 7,000 Monegasques born in the principality.

And as the prince brings the evening to a close with a lavish ball, nearly 25,000 residents and visitors to Monaco are expected to enjoy a spectacular fireworks display on the waterfront.

Tuesday's celebrations, however, are just the beginning of ceremonies to ring in Albert as Monaco's new leader. On November 19, statesmen from around the world are invited to an official enthronement accompanied by the royal pomp and circumstance befitting Europe's newest monarch.
