I'm happy to constate that the Crownprince is very active...Maybe he could be a great Emperor. Japan will really need it in this hard modern world. :flowers:

I think that, at least, the CP will be a very active monarch :D

Because the CP seemed very happy when cheering Aiko in her race some days ago... it would be too sad to hear again she is ill...

It is sad to learn that Crown Princess Masako was unable to attend a birthday ceremony for Empress Michiko. Hopefully she will be able to undertake some official engagements soon. At the same time, it is nice to see Crown Prince Naruhito delivering a speech devoted to such important cause as sanitation, which is viewed as a pivotal element of reducing life-threatening maladies (e.g., cholera, worms, diarrhoea or pneumonia). Looking at the photos, I can not help noticing that Crown Prince Naruhito gained a few pounds.
 
Kinda ironic isn't it? While the Prince is talking about the imporatance of health, his wife is recovering from illness.

As for putting on a few pounds, I think that''s only the 1st picture.

Well ... I think you are right noting that Crown Prince Naruhito's chubbiness can be attributed to a photography.
 
Prior to his 50th birthday on Tuesday, Crown Prince Naruhito indicated his willingness to explore the future role of the Imperial household.

"The Imperial court has been changing with the times," he told reporters Friday at an embargoed news conference held ahead of his birthday. "I hope to pursue how the Imperial family should be in the future through learning from the past."

He said he has been discussing various issues with his brother, Prince Akishino, and will pursue further opportunities, but he did not elaborate.

Japan's Crown Prince Naruhito said Wednesday he hopes his upcoming trip to Ghana and Kenya will deepen ties between Japan and the African nations as well as his understanding of problems facing the continent.Naruhito, heir to the world's oldest hereditary monarchy, won't be making the March 6-15 trip with Princess Masako, who withdrew from most of her official duties several years ago because of a nervous disorder attributed to difficulties adjusting to palace life and the pressure to bear a son to continue the imperial line.
In Ghana, the crown prince plans to attend a health care symposium held in honor of Hideyo Noguchi, a Japanese doctor who died in Accra, the Ghanian capital, in 1928 while researching a cure for yellow fever.

This will be Naruhito's first trip to sub-Saharan Africa. Overseas trips by members of the imperial family are one of their important duties, which under the post-World War II constitution are largely ceremonial.

Prince Naruhito, Crown Prince of Japan on Monday, visited Mary Star of the Sea International School at Kasoa and the Dr Hideyo Noguchi laboratory at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital as part of his three-day visit to Ghana.
The Mary Star of the Sea International is one of the schools in the country that has adopted the teaching of Japanese since 2005, while his visit to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital was to see for himself where Dr Noguchi worked and died. Dr Noguchi died in 1928 in Ghana while researching into the causes of malaria in Africa.

At Kasoa children of the school welcomed the delegation with fluent Japanese language and treated them to some Japanese and Ghanaian songs.

Japan's Crown Prince Naruhito Friday visited endangered rhinos at a game reserve in Kenya's Rift Valley before planting a tree here with Nobel Prize laureate Wangari Maathai.The prince, dressed in casual clothes and walking shoes, started the second day of his Kenya visit with an early morning game drive at the Ol Pejeta reserve, where impala, lions and warthogs abound.
He visited rhino enclosures in the park, feeding a blind Black rhino called Baraka ("blessing" in the Swahili language) and interacting with two female Northern White rhinos, Fatu and Najin, that were donated by a Czech zoo in December.
The prince took numerous photographs of the animals and at one point walked up to a small crowd of local people who had gathered to welcome him waving flags and greeted them with a few words of Swahili. - AFP
