Four exiled princes claim they were abandoned by their father, the Crown Prince
The Thai royal family has suffered another blow to its prestige with a public appeal by four exiled princes who claim they have been abandoned and barred from their homeland by their father,
Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn.
The letter, circulated by email this week, paints a picture of a young family stripped of its name, privileges and right to return home since the breakdown of the marriage between Crown Prince Vajiralongkorn and his second wife.
"
Every day we wish to return to Thailand," reads the letter, bearing the names of the four sons of the former
Mom Sujarinee Mahidol, a Thai actress who married the prince in 1994 after 15 years as his mistress. Two years later, she fled with their children.
"
For 15 years, we have never set foot in our country and we miss it far too much."
The sons lived first in Britain and more recently in the US. [...]
The emotional appeal by his sons will be especially damaging. "It shatters the carefully cultivated image of the royal family as fathers of the nation looking after the people as their children," analyst Andrew Walker said. -

Shocking news, indeed.
