Crown Prince Frederik's 50th Birthday Celebrations: May 2018

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Frederik has completed his second run in Aarhus. Very much cheered on by the locals. Due to him studying at Aarhus University and enjoying his time there, he is very much considered an honorary-Aarhusianer.

70.575 have signed up today.

A video of Frederik completing the first run in Aalborg: http://nyheder.tv2.dk/2018-05-21-kronprinsen-har-loebet-den-foerste-mil-gav-highfive-til-alle

On this page you'll find a couple of vids and pics from Copenhagen, including the solo-interview with Christian. Scroll down:

https://www.tv2lorry.dk/artikel/live-fra-royal-run-nu-begynder-loebefesten

Christian says: "Yes, it was really nice (run)."
Q: was it hard?
C: "A little but not really".
Q: How did the small siblings do?
Christians looks back, and reply: "Really well."

Now we can look forward to the family interview. It has already been quoted in several papers.

When we get to the family interview, try keep an eye on Josephine, as the show-girl she is, she clearly would like to be asked questions too, but she's still shy, when she's actually asked.

----------------------

In about an hour Frederik will arrive in the town of Esbjerg and here he will run with veterans, and while doing so two F16 will do a fly-over.

The Berlingske gallery has been updated 58 photos now, including Mary and the children: https://www.b.dk/nationalt/se-alle-billederne-kronprins-frederik-loeber-om-kap-med-danskerne#slide-1

Mother is seriously proud of Christian!

And we have the family interview. Scroll down: Prins Christian løb fra både mor og søskende - se tiden her - TV 2

Q: How was the run?
C: "Really good".
Q: Yes, there were all these people.
C: "It was really nice to see all the young and adults who ran along."
Q: Yes, how was it to have so many cheerleaders?
C: "It was something new. It was really nice to try. And that's something I'd like to try again."
Q: Do you know your time?
C: "I think it was around 7:35."
Q: 7:35? Do you think that's enough to beat your dad on the same distance?
C: "Perhaps. I hope so."

Q: And how about the mother of the children? How does she think it went?
M: "It was a lovely experience. With children running at different speeds. But it was a great pleasure. A really good mood. (I can't make out the last sentence.)"

Q: And how about you, Princess Isabella? How do you think it went?
I: "I think it went really well. It was really fun to run with the whole family. Even though we were a bit split up. - Yeah. - It was real fun".
Q: Do you think you could have run a longer distance?
I: "Yes, I believe I can."

Q: How about you, Princess Josephine? How do you think it went?
J: "I think it was hard!"
Q: I can well understand that. But you did really well. Did you run as hard as you could?
J: "Yes."
Mary interjects that she had a good running style.

Q: How about the Crown Princess? Can she take ten kilometers more today?
M: "I hope so."
Q: Good luck.

The same interview as above, but on BB's site, and YouTube: https://www.billedbladet.dk/kongeli...soeskende-var-glade-og-stolte-efter-royal-run

And a different camera angle.

Are the people in black around them security/ bodyguards ?

They are a kind of ushers attached to the event, but there was a PET officer attached to each child, and Mary. But they were dressed like all the other runners, except for a belt-bag.
The ushers basically formed a screen behind the family in the beginning, and when the children took off, one accompanied each child, along with a more discreet runner...

i love how the children answered during the interview. They do have grown up a lot. I remember when they were interviewed when they were small. One thing is for sure though, they showed confidence and ease with the press.

Yes, I think they were very confident. Not least Christian who doesn't seem to consider being interviewed a big deal.

And, it's good to see you having joined as an active poster, princessrhea ?

I have joined way before when Frederik and Mary was engaged. But life happens and didn't have time to post a lot and interact in the forum. But all these years, i have been lurking and reading your posts. Frederik's 50th birthday seems to be a good time to come back to the forums actively.

What a lovely bunch, they are!

Thanks for the interview translations, Muhler! From the one of Frederik, I can just say, wow, even among non-royals, one can only dream of that kind of partnership that Fred and Mary have with each other.

The interview of the run--Christian looks so mature for his age, and Isabella so grown up, with the feminine gestures and so charming too, Josephine is adorable. I also liked how Isabella instinctively comforted Josephine with a hand on the shoulder when she said it was hard. These kids lives' of course won't ever be perfect and will have its own kind of difficulties but one can see that their parents have prepared them well. They will have a very good support system and for now, their upbringing and childhood all looks so idyllic!

It seems like a great event for the whole country!

and the kids are lovely!

Yes, I think they were very confident. Not least Christian who doesn't seem to consider being interviewed a big deal.

If I'm not mistaken you can see how he first quitely asks Mary if he should/may take the interview. It's in the Billed Bladet video.

I also love how Vincent isn't that into this interview thing and just leaves with Christian when he is done:cool: Great that he is not forced by anyone to participate!

Right now Frederik is running in Esbjerg in the lead of 300 veterans and current soldiers. No one overtakes Frederik!
All run together, because this is all for one, and one for all.

For the occasions Frederik has changed to a Frogman Corps T-shirt.

---------------

The run is over and Frederik shakes the hand of every veteran and soldier he ran with.

--------------------

Next stop is Odense. And here Mary will run 10 km. Frederik will start her run and run another mile. With a little luck we may see the children again.

This is the medal, all who completes a run today will receive: https://www.tvsyd.dk/files/styles/i.../media/2018/21/pix_medaljen.jpg?itok=graI19J7

Yes, he did. ?

There is also a one mile royal run in Greenland today.

---------------------

With 70.000 participants, this is the world's 8th largest run.

Mary's ambition is to make the ten km distance in 50 minutes. So in front of her will be two or three "hares" who will ensure she keeps the pace.

Mary has just arrived in Odense - delayed due to the traffic.
Here she was received by her husband.

Frederik was actually supposed to run right now, but first they have to say hi to the local mayor and what not.
The plan was that Mary should start the one mile run Frederik should take part in, and then he would start the 10 km run Mary would take part in.
Mary's plan is to complete the 10 Km in 50 minutes.

The children are not with their parents in Odense, but perhaps we will see them again in Copenhagen.

There are already talks about making this an annual event. - IMO probably to take place each second Whitsun day, which is a bank holiday in DK.

In Odense Frederik will run with athletes, some of them were present at the Olympics in Sydney back in 2000.

Frederik does not appear to have had particular problems with his back.

Here is a live link from the local newspaper in Odense:
https://www.fyens.dk/odense/Fyensdk...rik-ankommer-til-Kongens-Have/artikel/3257430

The quality is pretty poor! Can you see anything?

-----------------------

The commentators say Frederik looks a bit strained, so perhaps his back is giving him trouble after all?

----------------

Frederik has finished his fourth one mile run today. Due to his back. He hasn't been running for the past six weeks.
Now it's Mary's turn.

If Frederik is to be in Copenhagen in 1½ hour, he can't see her finish in Odense. And unless she flies to Copenhagen I don't think she will be there in time for to see Frederik finish there.
But we may hope his children will be there at the finishing line.

-------------

For our newsdiggers, there is a selfie of M&F on the DRF Instagram account.

Mary has started.

Research has shown worldwide that if the mother is physically active, then there is a noticeably higher probability that the children will be physically active as well.

That is of course worth noticing in view of the world wide obesity-epidemic.

The ten kilometer run will pass Amalienborg.
Amalienborg will be the five km mark, and QMII is in residence!
Perhaps she will appear on the balcony with her grandchildren to cheer Frederik along?

----------------------------------

Mary has finished in 53:10.

I'm pretty impressed with the two PET officers who ran along, with a backpack containing equipment and a first-aide kit, while staying vigilant all the time.

And a very short while, she will get in a car and drive towards Copenhagen, to receive Frederik at the finishing line.

Within tree minutes after passing the finishing line, she's giving an interview - without being out of breath!
Also in English.

Frederik has uploaded an new photo on Instagram.

thanks for the excellent coverage!
what an event!! the pictures have been great, Frederik, Mary and the Family. But really what a nice event for all of Denmark. reading the article, there are first time runners, kids, veterans, 4 generations in a family running. Everyone seems to be having fun

Frederik received treatment to his back, before running in Odense.

The 10 km in Copenhagen are going to hurt bad!

Now for something completely different.

DR1 will tonight show the first part of two documentary about Frederik's life and personal development to where he is today.

You should be able to watch this outside DK.
https://www.dr.dk/tv/live/dr1

The programme will start in 2 hours 15 min from this is posted.

The second part will be shown Wednesday.

There is also a Royal Run in Greenland. In the capital of Nuuk 1.500 have signed on, that's roughly one in ten of all residents in Nuuk.

Up there they are running in shirts with the pictures of Frederik and/or his family.

---------------------------

Nuuk is a small town and there are not that many roads in Greenland, so the distance there is a little more than 3 km.

--------------------------

A 22 pic gallery from Odense: https://www.fyens.dk/odense/Se-billederne-Kronprinsparret-tog-Odense-med-storm/artikel/3257498

-----------------------

The theme for the run in Copenhagen is Frederik himself, so there will be music along the route. He is very fond of music you know.

----------------

Frederik has arrived at the starting line. He will first send a number of elite-runners along, they are going to compete for real.
Then he and the rest will start.

Our totally incompetent Foreign Minister is there as well! I bet he's going to stick as close to Frederik as possible!
Well, no matter Frederik's popularity will not rub off!

The much more respectable and well-liked French ambassador is there as well.

WOW!! 53:10 is a great time for a 10k!! Great job CP Mary! This event is IMO, absolutely wonderful. Not just a normal birthday party for a prince, that's for sure. I am so proud of the way they have included all of Denmark in this birthday celebration.

Wow! I am amazed at all who have turned out for the royal run. Vets, bakers, kids, and even 4 generations of family members!
Impressive!!!

A 92 year old lady took part in one of the mile runs. The ones she were with, were a bit too slow for her taste, so she left them behind...

The French ambassador has already run a mile run, so he won't be run along now.

Just as I feared our idiotic Foreign Minister, (he's the second least popular minister according to a survey published today) is sticking as close to Frederik as possible. - So close in fact that if I were Mary I would wack him with a shovel!

--------------

Frederik's last and longest run today has started.

----------------------------

Well, I don’t know how Frederik feels about turning fifty, but I’m loving it so far!

The Danes seem to feel such affection for their royal family and I love how Frederik and Mary show they feel the same toward their fellow citizens by having events like these that everyone can enjoy.

They must be so proud of their children. The two oldest are so poised and seem natural and at ease wherever they find themselves. Christian, in particular, is very impressive for a boy his age. I also loved how Isabella put her arm around Josephine’s shoulder when she was speaking to the reporter, (and starting to get a little overwhelmed). Lovely, well brought up kids.

An Estonian runner is the first across the finishing line in 19:20.

---------------------------

There is activity behind the balcony doors at QMII's residence at Amalienborg.

--------------------------

QMII is standing on the balcony waving. - Waiting for Frederik to pass in a few minutes.

----------------------

Frederik seems to have ditched the Foreign Minister. - Good, good, very good!

---------------------------

Many of the runners are waving back at QMII.

Frederik is waving with both arms at his mother. He is now halfway through the run.

----------------------

QMII is smiling so broadly the top of her head is in serious danger of falling off!

Here from the finishing line. Frederik should be there in 20-25 minutes.

----------------------

The soldiers who were under Frederik's command, when he was a very young first lieutenant in the Guards Hussars are accompanying him.
A friend of his will play Led Zeppelin for Frederik when he is passing.

-----------------

The music played along the route are tracks from Frederik's own playlist. (Published in the recent portrait book.)
