Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in London: April 16-20, 2018

Is this the only formal dinner for CHOGM?

It seems that princess Michael is wearing her fringe tiara while the Duchess of Gloucester is wearing the Iveagh tiara. Princess Alexandra wears the pearl version of hear tiara while the Countess of Wessex wears her modern aquamarine tiara.

HM in the Girls and the Greville ruby and diamond necklace

Any sightings of Camilla?

The York girls not wearing tiaras.

Now that's strange, the only princesses in the room without tiara...
The vaults are not empty as far i know ...

The Picture Gallery is a FAR more elegant and interesting room in which to hold the Dinner, rather than the more usual Ballroom. It is a softly lit, more intimate space, and markedly less pretentious, more welcoming than the overpoweringly high ceilinged and harshly illuminated Ballroom. A better environment in which to dine amongst FRIENDS.

Yep wearing the mighty Bouch as usual, and the exquisite blue Bruce Oldfield gown worn at the CHOGM banquet in 2013.
Great, thx

Amen to that!

I notice that Camilla was wearing the Royal Family Order but Anne was not.

Are we going to see photographs of the ladies? :ermm: Does anyone know? Or does one have to watch the live feed for that? I started to watch but have to go shortly and can't anymore.

Also it is pretty clear that The Queen is going to be slowing down in duties. Between her speech and the President of Ghana's it sounded like retirement. That is clearly not happening yet but it is obvious that the transition to Charles is officially beginning.

Eugenie probably wants to wait for her wedding day as it is 'around the corner', so Beatrice decided not to wear one either?

The royal ladies can opt out of wearing their family orders whenever they like on formal occasions. We see The Queen not wearing her grandfather and father’s family orders. Diana didn’t always wear hers either.

I'm really disappointed that the Yorks did not wear tiaras, and I was hoping that it would be either or (tiaras or possible orders), but it looks like most of the ladies didn't wear any. While I know this is not what it is about, this was the only chance for them to really get a chance in the spotlight, except for their respective weddings, and I think they missed it.

This meeting has a nostalgic tone to me. It marks a turning point as the Quee is saying goodbye to her duties as Charles steps in. You can tell public speechs are getting tiresome for her.

Truly the end of an era.

How wonderful to see the prince of Wales receiving the guests next to his mother the queen. The make a nice team.

Maybe because the Queen sticks to the old Royal tradition that unmarried Princesses do not wear tiaras. That said, I would have LOVED to see them in tiaras. A century ago they would have been in tiaras; i don't know why things have changed. Queen Mary wore over 20 different tiaras in her lifetime; there must be some unused ones floating about somewhere...

I am sure that is not a rule because Princess Margaret, Princess Anne and Princess Alexandra all wore tiaras before marriage, the latest example just being over 40 years ago.

You are quite right, but I was thinking more back in Queen Victoria and QUeen Alexandra's time.

At least Beatrice and Eugenie were at the event, even if they didn't have any serious bling.

A state dinner with black tie? And no sashes...?!
Meghan, though announced before, didn´t show up, did she?

Not a state dinner - that's Head of State to Head of State - white tie and all the ribbons tiaras and orders.

This is more like a Gala Dinner - no one is Guest of Honour.

Meghan was never scheduled for this event.
