Caroline & The Casiraghi's - University Life

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
So, apparently, the only Casiraghi that hasn't finished his studies is Pierre. Another resemblance to daddy!

In her Elle interview Charlotte speaks about her studies
http://a.yfrog.com/img835/7916/pomelineskyrock78.jpg
After her bac she stopped horse riding because she went to Paris to do prepatory studies for the Ecole Normale Supérieure (Khagne & Hypokhagne?)
Then she went to London for her internship

2 questions later she says that a year and a half ago she finished her philosphy studies

Yes. This part is very interesting.

CPGE = 2 years (the hypokhâgne =1st year, & the khâgne, i.e. final, year)
She began Year 1 in September 2004. She finished the whole CPGE in June 2006.

SEP 2006 - Jun 2007 (year, all she needed to finish the License of Philosophy)
SEP 2007 - DEC 2007 (the half, during which she wrote that piece for The Independent on Sunday, entitled "Sole Mates.")

TWO MORE YEARS
JAN 2008 - JAN 2009 (writing/editorial for various publications)
JAN 2009 - JAN 2010 (her return to equitation was early in this period, approximately. spring 2009; also in June 2009 her interview with Stella McCartney in Above came out; and in SEP/OCT 2009 she launched Ever Manifesto, and conducted an interview of an artist for Alex's newsletter)

JAN 2010-DEC 2010
All equestrian all the time. Evermanifesto.com went dead.

I haven't been on the forum for two or maybe more years but as far as I can see people still wonder whether Charlotte got her degree or not.Frankly,I'd love to know if she graduated from Sorbonne or not but I can't help wondering why she didn't make an effort to study in UK.London has great Universities. It seems that she doesn't care much.2007 was a crusial year for her:she met Dellal, she moved to London and everything else has gone.

I just read something interesting about the French ENS program. Only 2,500 French students (all degrees) are selected each year and only 20 international students. You'd have to be a genius as a foreigner to be selected. Nothing like setting your sights high Charlotte.

Additional comment: Today I was looking at Charlotte's biography on French Elle (not the December article.) It said she did get a license from the Sorbonne. They are a reliable source so that should settle that question.

Fan, there are many reliable sources and not all of them agree. Case in Point: US People magazine. Traditionally considered as reliable, right?

June 2007, Charlote is on the cover of this magazine. In the cover story, it says, "Charlotte is rethinking plans to enter the Sorbonne in the fall."
Same article confirms that she did do the internship with the publishing house. (The Independent on Sunday internship did not come til Sep-Dec 2007).

What this tells me is that Charlotte decided not to enter the Sorbonne in the fall, She chose instead to go to work in London.

And immediately after her three or four months @ The IOS, she goes to AnOther magazine. And after that, ABOVE, and Alex's 20 magazine. And then back to equestrian life and simultaneously to co-founded Ever Manifesto. So where is the Sorbonne in this picture?

Charlotte never admitted she went to the Sorbonne. she just never corrected anyone. I think it is natural and what anyone might do. Someone says you have a certain degree. You just shrug and let them think it. What's the harm? It doesn't matter to her what people think about her education. She doesn't need to impress anyone. She already has her ticket into everything she could aspire towards. It's not like someone will tell her, "Oh no, we found out you don't have a License from the sorbonne. Sorry, no, go Charlotte. We need someone with a License!":D

People has never done an interview with Charlotte. All of their articles use quotes from other magazines who also had never interviewed her. So in this case I don't consider them reliable. They were just rehashing gossip. French Elle did an interview with her and talked to her about her education. She knows the editor. They see each other at parties. It would also be easier for a French magazine to find out if she went to the Sorbonne or not. I consider them to be a much more reliable source. Also if she didn't go there I think French Sorbonne students would have gladly pointed it out to the magazine. We know she had interships but we don't know how long the interships were for.

Charlotte from gathering the many instances of finding her role in scholastics seems to have tried and worked hard at achieving a degree towards being a literature editor. The time frame for going after more intellectual or important learning for endeavors she can dream of or accomplish, through the medium, have so far put on hold. I can see if she is like the government because she is Royal their may be reasons why she doesn't endeavor to take on college or such placements where one has to be genius and inspirational. Sometimes, as here in the US, one has to really show many qualities as to why one deserves entrance into elite universities; and not only scholastically. I feel she's intelligent and the World is there for the taking and Charlotte will avoid being uninformed and naive. She does have a ticket to anything and I'm sure she can make things go her way. It is interesting to follow and someday there may be a change to her current path. It'll be interesting to see. She's just that lovely a persona. I hope no matter what she finds out who she wants to be. Her outlook is atypical in a very unique way. She can be a miracle.

There is something else that we haven't considered. Charlotte knew ahead of time that it would be a long shot to get into ENS. Maybe she thought the Fenelon school was the best college she could go to for the first 2 years. Better than the Sorbonne. I have wondered if the girls, PC and Charlotte, had the choice to go outside of France to university (they are very important to Monaco's marketing campaign). PC could have gone to Princeton University in the US but didn't.

There is no evidence that CC earned a degree from any university. There appears to be evidence that she ATTENDED several institutions of higher learning, but she always gave up. As far as the internships, who wouldn't take her on as an intern. Looks good in the company brochure.

High profile universities will not turn away royal or celebrity enrollees (no matter their aptitude) as higher education is as much about money as it is about education. Some do well, some do not. We do not hear about the ones who didn't do well or dropped out. In the case of didn't do well, a lousy grade point average will still get you a degree. If the person dropped out, descriptions of their education are massaged until one can't tell whether they finished or not.

I do have to say, in the defense of anyone who didn't go to or finish uni in the traditional time frame, that it is never too late. There are many reasons for this happening, as an example, I'll use myself. I graduated from high school in the prescribed four years, but didn't go to university until four years later. I was not mature enough to go when I was 17. Instead I went to work for an interior designer for four years, then applied to uni for my undergraduate degree and then on to law school. Some folks need to mature a bit before they can complete anything.

I agree with most of you on everything but I don't think she's shy.Shy people don't expose themselves at Vogue US.She doesn't have enough confidence to answer some questions but still need the press that why her ''interviews'' have just photos and some quotes. She gets the promotion and they sell out.Fair enough. If she was at Zara's or Valentine's (Pozzo di Borgo) level or if she had entered the very prestigious ENS she would probably talk more about herself. She'll probably never reach a really high level at horse riding and she never corrected anyone who wrote that she's a Sorbonne grad.Surprisingly though she sued Bunte for calling her party girl.Very convenient, huh? The 2000-2006 era was a real madness, press was following them everywhere but it seems that people are losing part of their interest in them.If she actually avoided ordinary students at Fenelon her failure must gave have been a slap for her.

Now I am confused...Charlotte did NOT graduate from the Sorbonne?? Did she leave BEFORE graduating? Did she attend classes there at all?

She was once inseparable from Valentine Pozzo di Borgo...now I never see them photographed together.

I thought she had graduated too but apparently she hasn't. She went there from 2006 to 2007 and studied Philosophy. Someone said at the forums that she had got bored with her studies and therefore decided not to come back. So technically she is not a graduaded. Speaking of Sorbonne, anybody know if Caro went there? And if so, what did she study?:flowers:

Thank you palomasie. I always thought she graduated...but I think she got "bored with her studies" at the Sorbonne because she had just met her new boyfriend and wanted to join him in London. :ermm:

As for Caroline, I remember reading somewhere that she had studied there as well, but I do not know if she ever got a degree.

Oh, I'd never thought about that but it's possible that she quit to get to be with Alex more often. Such a shame though because I believe it would've made a big difference:bang:

Elle France said Charlotte graduated from the Sorbonne. She graduated from high school in 2004. Went to the special high school for 2 years and would have graduated after her 3rd year at the Sorbonne. That still gave her 2 years for internships. According to the Sorbonne website you can get a degree after 3 years. The palace website says PC graduated from the Sorbonne with a degree in philosophy and I think psychology.

We've talked long about it and I don't want to repeat myself, but no, you don't get a "REAL" degree in 3 years. You won't even be eligible for a PhD or any kind of postgraduate studies. With the new Bologna plan things have changed from when I went to Paris IV (where charlotte is supposed to have been) so, I'm not totally up to date, but still. After 3 years of law, philosophy, literature, history, etc you haven't really graduated because you can't work as a lawer, you can't enter a postgraduate program in any universtiy in europe and you can't even work as a teacher in high school.

Caroline has a degree in Philosophy from the Sorbone. She specialized in Children´s Psychology. She wanted to work with children.

I agree with everything you said, Trepstep, except this one. Charlotte is not a normal girl.

Oh, but she is a normal girl! It's her circunstances that are exceptional, not her!;)
I think I didn't explain myself properly.
What I meant is she's done no more no less than any other girl out there. She's got good grades at highschool, she's dated a couple of boys, she's kind of gone to university, she's done a couple of interships and she's got a hobby she likes. That's all.
She can be an interesting person to meet and to talk to on a private level, like many other girls in the world, but she's done nothing that is worth an interview per se.
If we are interested about her it's just because her grand-mother was a famous actress, and her mother was a socialite who dated famous people, her aunt led an absurd life for years, and his uncle rules a surrealistic fiscal paradise on the mediterranean coast with a big casino and a famous car race, and she wears designer clothes and goes to glamourous parties, and travels in a yatch and all that makes us dream, like a hollywood movie from the 50's would. But it's not her who is special or interesting, it's just her circunstances. She is just normal.

In some ways, I think that we are a little unfair with these heiresses like Charlotte or Eugenie and such. Let's face it. Most people in this world don't have a real passion, and even if they do most often they don't have the talent to excell in anything remarcable. Yet, it goes unnoticed because most peoplee have to work to eat and pay rent, and they are too busy just doing did that.
Now, if you don't need to work to earn your life, it would be extremely stupid to take a 9 to 5 job and waste your time sitting at a desk when you could enjoy it, BUT you probably still need to feel like you are doing something of your own. you've got the time, the money, the ambition and an unfair social pressure who pushes you to do something, work on something, achieve something (even when most people who critizise rich people would stop going to work if they could afford it).
What I think makes them look silly is when all of them decide they are talented artists and can excell at creative things just because they enjoy touring lthe Orsay museum and the MOMA!! One of them designs shoes, the other one desings jewelry, or furniture, or is a model, or onws an art gallery or talk about going to the Olympics and they don't even realize how laughable they are, they are so used to be surrounded by special and talented people that they think is normal to be one of them! Well, at least Alex just owns a gallery and help the people who have talent, he doesn't pretend to been an artist himself. He seems the more level headed of the full gang.
And well, some of these real kids are really talented. Zara Phillips is not just good, she is amazing! But then, she isn't exactly the daughter of a fat rich bussinessman and a lazy fashionista socialite. Both her parents were really talented equestrians, she inherited her talent and passion from them.

About Charlotte not talking to anyone at Fénelon... I don't know, I won't doubt your source since I don't know it, if your friend says she didn't talk to anyone she probably was right, but how does she know she didn't talk to anyone because she considered herself better than the rest? I''m sure Charlotte didn't say that! There's a good chance that's simply what people thought. Maybe she is just afraid that people would like to pretend to be her friends only because she is famous?

I really don't know but in any case, having a famous last name and been rich is no excuse whatsoever to feel like you can only be normal about people with similar background than yours. I went to school for a couple of years with a cousin of king Juan Carlos of spain. Since her last name was Borbón there was no way she could hide it, but appart from than she was a really nice friendly girl, who never ever behaved like an outsider. Of course the 1st, maybe the second week we were courious about her, and we talked about her in the aisles and I remember I asked my mom if she knew something about her. But after a couple of weeks we just forgot who she was because she was NORMAL and even if she had fancy connections and family parties, and such, when she was with the class group she hanged out in the same places we did.

And this post is long! Just one last thing: if you don't want to get the wrong media atention you just don't sign a deal with Gucci and you don't give interviews to Vogue, and Elle and Hola! If you've got Charlotte's money you don't need a sponsor to ride amateur shows. You pay your bills by yourself, you enjoy yourself, you don't attrack the media attention and specially you don't talk about going to the Olympics !!

Well, since you can't study philosophy and specialize in children's psycology (as far as I know psycology is not even taught at Paris IV) I'm guessing that Caroline degree is as fictional as Charlotte's.:D:D

Wow! In US those are 2 totally different things to study and you probably wouldnt get a degree in Philosophy w/ a special in childrens psychology- you'd get a psychology degree....unless u made up some strange major ......so.....um, good for France must be very different and good for Caroline I suppose......

Yes you can study both things. At least that´s what Jose Luis Roig wrote in her biography. The same information is published in the Monaco official site. Unless you have made a better research, the information is accurate. I don´t see the reason to lie on this.

OMG! Again with all of this negativity...It's really strange that you post here if your so ANTI Charlotte!:bang:
Charlotte is not perfect, who is? But I try to be positive and or objective when I talk about Charlotte on here. Why? because, for whatever reason I like her! I'm a fan. I wouldn't waste my time otherwise.
That you write these ridonkulously long posting BASHING Charlotte, or ok to be more precise, constantly cutting her down again and again says a lot about the kind of person you are!!!
One more thing, these constant little tid bits about Y-O-U, are unhelpful, I know others may disagree, but seriously trepstep for all we know you could work as a cleaner for the Paris public transportation system!
I for one am not on here to read the life and times of trepstep, if others fall into this trap so be it. Anyone anywhere can log on here as whatever and claim to got to school with whoever.
It's my opionion that in life the real deal doesn't advertise itself the way you constantly do!!!!!

No, you can't. I don't care what Jose Luis Roig wrote or did not wrote. You can't do that in Europe and even less prior the new Bologna Plan

She would had needed 4 years to complete her philosophy studies. (at least a couple of years to get a DEUG, the minor degree by then) And then, to study psycology she would had needed to start again from the bottom, because there is no connection between philosophy and psycology, they're not even taught in the same university.
And to be "specialized" in anything she would have needed at least a maîtrise and that was 4 years of studies.
Since I am certain Caroline didn't attend university for 6 years, it is obvious than Jose Luis Roig, the monaco palace and herself are the 3 off them lying, and I can think of a good handful of reason why they did that.

Can you read? What negativity?Your obsessed with me!!:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I said she is a normal girl, with good grades in school. I said that I think that we are unfair with her and other rich girls like her who want to do something in life. I said that I didn't understand people who critizice her for not working and I deffended her lifestyle, and I said that I don't believe that the reason she didn't talk to people at Fénelon was because she thought she was better than anyone?

Where's the negativity in all that? Where do I bash her??? When I said she shouldn't have taken the Gucci deal if she doesn't like the press attention? Well, I think that pretty obvious!!!
When I said she
shouldn't talk about going to the Olympics? Because that's the only negative thing I say about her and I repeat it here. She shouldn't talk about going to the Olympics because it makes her look silly. She has no chance at all.

That said, I am certainly NOT her fan. I don't even understand the concept. I follow her because of the eye candy factor, and the dream factor I talked about in my very long post. I like pretty things and she is pretty, and wears nice clothes, and following her around is like watching a glamourous old fashioned movie, but to be a fan yo have to admire someone, and I don't admire her, not because she is wrong, but because she is normal. She is just a normal girl who's done nothing to admire her for. And again, that's not negativity. It's just normal. She is a normal 24 year old girl. How can anyone be her fan, it totally avoids my limited understanding.

One more thing, these constant little tid bits about Y-O-U, are unhelpful, I know others may disagree, but seriously trepstep for all we know you could work as a cleaner for the Paris public transportation system!

Well, I don't think there is nothing wrong about working as a cleaner for the public transportation system. Do you? If you think that having such a job is insulting it really says a lot about you, don't you think? You don't know where I work or who I am, and I'm certainly not telling you.Maybe I am a cleaner.

Also, I don't think that sharing a bench with someone in school tells anything about you or your life. Do you really think that your life is diffferent if you are sitting besides a cleaner's daughter or a prince cousin by pure chance? That's sad.
I never thought that what I wrote told anything interesting about me (oh, surprise, I went to school and I had classmates, that's exotic), but about people with similar background to Charlotte and who nevertheless behave like normal girls and go to cheap student hang-outs and have non-rich friends.

Oh, and the beauty of everything is that when you try to offend someone, the words you use tell more about you than about the other person. Thanks to your post we all know now what kind of snob you are!:D

I'm sorry but IF it was a lie, I believe that they would have chosen a credible lie! I think that the MC Press Service can easily investigate at which university PCs degrees are tought!
Maybe at this time the degree was tought! We are talking about 1977!

the university system in france was the same in 1977 and a few years ago. That course of studies is simply impossible. Do any of you have the actual quote? Because maybe she did a couple of years of philosophie at Paris IV and then some non-university course somewhere about children psycology?
By my understanding the american universitiy system is much more flexible and you can mix different studies, but continental europe doesn't work tha way. That combination is and was in 1977 simply imposible.

Thus, it wouldn't be lying, but "dressing-up" the truth :p
It's a common thing. The spanish royal family has done the same thing with princess Letizia porst-graduate "master" in Mexico and some of her jobs. You take a little bit or reality and you dress it up to make it look shiny.

Maybe she did not "specialize" in Psychology but did minor courses. But for sure the Palace has no reason to lie on this and you have no prove to deny Roig.

Of course I have proof! It's called french educational system!

TrepStep you need to look at the Sorbonne web site. You get a license in 3 years and a masters is the next degree after that. A license degree is the equivilent of a bachelor's degree in the US. Actually a little better. Those with a bacalaureate degree can skip alot of first year courses when they start at a US university. Philosophy and applied sciences are both under the human sciences department.

It's not something specific of the Sorbonne. It's something called the "Bologna plan" that the EU implemented a few years ago. All the european universities have exactly the same system. But the name "master" is misleading. It isn't really a "master", it's just that the last university years have been given than name. It's not an MBA, PhD or other post-graduate. I really don't know the american system, but in europe, since Bologna, to enter an MBA, PhD or anyother kind of post-graduate course you must first finish your "master"

Nah, not really! She just had the "luck" to sit really close to Charlotte during last year's horse jumping show in Rio. So based on that she was able to make a few conclusions. If you'd like me to tell the whole story, I could write it here later:flowers:

Yes, please! Some 1st hand info!:bounce:

That is really impressive! I though you had researched for years and had written a biography.
