This musical surprise is one of the revelations in a BBC radio programme celebrating Her Majesty's 90th birthday

Oh me, oh my. The Queen is such a massive fan of ukulele king George Formby that she can sing along to all his songs.

The cheeky chappy was one of Britain’s best-loved entertainers in the 30s and 40s with songs such as When I’m Cleaning Windows and his comedy catchphrase: “Turned out nice again.”

He won an OBE in 1946 for entertaining the troops in the Second World War but it was not only the forces who took the toothy Lancastrian to their hearts.

Her Majesty liked him so much she considered becoming president of the singer and film star’s *appreciation society.

The remarkable medical advances since Queen Elizabeth II was born | Daily Mail Online
She was born at a time when doctors used maggots to clean patients' wounds and when free healthcare was a concept people only dreamed of.

Now, as the Queen prepares to celebrate her official 90th birthday, we reveal the incredible medical advances that have occurred since she arrived into the world.

Just two years after Queen Elizabeth's birth, penicillin was invented - and the antibiotic is believed to have saved more than 100 millions lives to date.

Her 63-year reign has also witnessed the first heart transplant - a procedure one surgeon at the time described as ‘almost amounting to cannibalism’ - but is now carried out on almost 200 people a year.

And in 1978 the first 'test tube' baby Louise Brown was born via IVF - a fertility treatment which has since helped millions of couples worldwide conceive.

Going into the 90s DOlly the Sheep became a scientific sensation as she was cloned from a cell from another cow's udder. At the time, the development was met with horror as some believed it could lead to humans being cloned.

Here, an infographic created by health insurance provider Benenden, documents the medical breakthroughs we all now take for granted...

Hilda Price is one of six individuals given the honour of leading prayers, specially written to mark the Queen's 90 years, at the St Paul's Cathedral event this Friday.

Mrs Price, 90, who lives in Cardiff, said "It was the shock of my life" when she was told she had been picked to take part in the service.

She added laughing: "I had no idea, it was such a shock, I hope I do all right, I'm worried, but I used to read in the churches so I've had plenty of practice."

But the service on Friday will not be the first time she has been in the presence of the Queen, she said: "I've been to events at the palace and my mother was mayor of Carmarthen and she met the Queen."

Mrs Price has sent a birthday card to the Queen every year and on April 20 1989 she met the Queen during a royal visit to Swansea, after the monarch became curious by a card she held which said "I am 63 tomorrow too" and walked over to meet her.

The 90-year-old was also one of almost 100 pensioners invited to Buckingham Palace for lunch with the Queen to celebrate them all turning 80 in 2006.

The St Paul's Cathedral service will be attended by senior members of the Royal Family including the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince of Wales, Duchess of Cornwall, Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry. Politicians past and present, diplomats and governors general will also be in the congregation.

It will be one of a series of “birthday gifts” for Her Majesty in a highly personal service at St Paul’s Cathedral attended by virtually every member of the Royal family.

London has been draped in red, white and blue ahead of the Queen's 90th birthday celebrations this weekend.

Three days of events will begin with The National Service of Thanksgiving at St Paul's Cathedral on Friday.

The morning after and the Household Cavalry will commemorate Elizabeth II's 90th with the annual Trooping the Colour, which will be followed by an RAF flypast over Buckingham Palace, at which Prince George is expected to appear.

Heavy rain is predicted on Sunday, when her Majesty, Prince Philip, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry will then join 10,000 wellwishers for the Patron’s Lunch, a picnic that forms the centrepiece of three days of official festivities.

Its organisers, led by the Queen’s grandson Peter Phillips, had already planned to provide guests with both a plastic rain poncho and sun cream in anticipation of Britain’s unpredictable weather.

No, I don't think so.

Yes I know.

Denmark:
Tv 2 (one of Denmark's two main channels) will broadcast both the The National Service of Thanksgiving at St Paul's Cathedral and Trooping the Colour, while TV 2 CHARLIE will broadcast the Patron’s Lunch.

TV 2 CHARLIE has also dedicated their entire schedule from around 10:00 until around 00:00 both Friday, Saturday and Sunday to programs about the British Royal Family. They've already broadcasted the Horse Pageant from Windsor.

DR1 (the other big TV channel) will also broadcast the Trooping the Colour.

Norway:
NRK1 (Norway's largest TV channel) has already broadcast the Horse Pageant from Windsor and will in the coming weeks broadcast a series of documentaries about the Queen, while Norway's only News Channel will broadcast live from the celebrations this weekend.

They think that this is going to be a big celebration with millions of peoples in the streets, as we saw during the Silver, Golden and Diamond Jubilees in 1977, 2002 and 2012. What they don't understand is that this is a birthday and not a Jubilee.

The UK media doesn't cover this as they did during the Jubilees, and we will not see millions of peoples in the streets.

The media coverage and celebrations will be more like it was during the 80th birthday in 2006. We will see a few hundred people outside St Paul's Cathedral, a few thousand outside Buckinham Palace for the balcony appearance and perhaps 10,000 during the Patron's Lunch, but it looks like the weather are going to be bad again, as usual during the Queen's celebrations.

As I've said before on another thread: I was in Windsor with my British mother and her family for Her Majesty's 80th birthday. It was an amazing experience to see the people's Queen engaging with her public, and I and the others who were there will never forget it. My first experience with royal celebration was in 2002 (at the age of 14) when the Queen celebrated her Golden Jubilee. And I was in London for the wedding/Diamond Jubilee

I could have traveled to the UK and on to Windsor for the 90th birthday as well, but it had been difficult since I now live permanently in Norway with my new family/job situation. And I did not know that she was going to go on such a long walkabout, and I didn't know that she would be driven out in the crowds in her Queenmobile.

But one of my half brothers were there with some friends, and they will probably never forget it.

The TV coverage on April 21:
BBC News Channel and Sky News sent all the day until we got the news about Prince's death.

BBC One sent live from Windsor for two hours and sent the documentary Elizabeth at 90 in the evening. BBC Breakfast and the The One Show was also mainly about the birthday.

ITV sent their documentary Our Queen at 90 on March 27 and the Horse Pageant from Windsor on May 15. Both Good Morning Britain and This Morning was also mainly about the birthday on April 21.

And since I didn't had the time to post videos or many articles from the celebrations at Windsor on April 21, and no one else has done it - here are some:

Britain prepares for three days of pageantry to celebrate The Queen's 90th birthday | Daily Mail Online
Bunting has been strung across the streets and store fronts decorated with Union flags as the nation prepares to mark the Queen's official 90th birthday this weekend.

The monarch, whose actual birthday was on April 21, will mark the milestone publicly with three days of pomp and pageantry in London.

There are plenty of opportunities to take part in the celebrations - although some of the events are exclusive to the Royal Family and special guests.

The festivities will culminate on Sunday with a street party on The Mall, which will see some 10,000 people enjoy a picnic lunch and a special parade.

Tickets were balloted and have now all been issued, but those who aren't lucky enough to attend can still watch the fun on big screens in nearby Green Park and St James Park.

Another screen will be in place in Trafalgar Square, alongside a host of other entertainment including food stands, a football competition, dancing and royalty-themed games.

Celebrations start tomorrow with a special service at St Paul's Cathedral at 11am - although it is only for the Royal Family and their invited guests.

I think an opportunity was missed here; For his 95th birthday I would have loved to have seen a photo of him with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, with Prince Philip in the middle centre in his position as Paterfamilias, where he is always going to be No. 1. Not for a minute though will I think he will think that way; he has always been a superb consort for The Queen, without being overly deferential, and still his own man. Well done HRH Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh.

Thanks Royal Norway for finding that picture.

Heads up fellow Cdns!!

On tonight'sThe National, which will be on after Game Five of the Stanley Cup Final is over, there's going to be an interview w/Peter and Autumn Phillips. They're going to talk about the Queen, their relationship w/Granny and the responsibility of heading the Company in charge of Sunday's events.

I think this is the first time Autumn's done an interview. At least that I remember.

Heads up fellow Cdns!!

Ah, if only I were a 'fellow Cdn'! I'd love to see Autumn 'live' so to speak; I have seen Peter several times. But I'm here at the bottom of the world, so I won't see it. Have seen Canada, though, (Vancouver and Whistler and surrounds) and it reminds me of a larger version of NZ! Very beautiful (both countries)

I hope the weather is fine for the Mall 'street party'.

Good to hear from Peter and Autumn!
