    Royals and the Military

Thank you. It's understandable that the Duke wears his Admiral of the Fleet uniform very often, but I was interested in seeing him dressed in the uniform of British Field Marshal. I have to erm... content myself with Field Marshal the Duke of Kent for the time being. :) It is quite interesting...

    King George V (1865-1936)

I've never heard that Princess Victoria had a chance to marry someone. Who was her suitor?

    Royals and the Military

The Duke of Edinburgh holds ranks of Admiral of the Fleet, Field Marshal and Marshal of RAF, but he seems to wear his Royal Navy uniform whenever he has to dress as a military man. I cannot find any of his photos in the Army or RAF uniform.

    Will Charles Ever Reign?

I think that the 'Williamists' count upon Charles's repudiation of his hereditary rights and the 'aye' votes of sixteen (?) Parliaments of the Commonwealth in response to his wish.

    Will Charles Ever Reign?

chrissy57, my post almost mirrors yours... :)

    Will Charles Ever Reign?

Bypassing Charles can have a deleterious effect, too, because it will undermine the principle of hereditary succession. Not to mention the constitutional problems... I am not a fan of the Prince of Wales, but he has to have his short reign. Maybe he is going to exceed expectations? Edward VII...

    King Abdullah & Queen Rania Current Events 4: July 9-August 30, 2005

King Abdullah II will visit the MAKS-2005 airshow... maybe Jordan is going to buy our aeroplanes and/or missiles.

    Will Charles Ever Reign?

Yes. The Peerage Act 1963 made it possible to disclaim a peerage. The House of Lords Act 1999 excluded the majority of hereditary peers from the Upper House, allowing them to stand for election in the House of Commons instead. But that's off-topic here, I presume. :)

    Russian Imperial and Other Titles

Yes... but, I think, it is the title of Erzherzog that corresponds to Russian Velikiy knyaz best; not as a translation, of course.

Anne, Princess Royal Current Events 1: June 2004-August 2005

Neither do I. :) BTW, were there any non-European royals at the wedding of 1973?

    Will Charles Ever Reign?

Yes... the present situation with Camilla reminds me of Michael Ancram, a Tory politician. He inherited the Marquessate of Lothian not long ago, but he chose to be known under his old name. So, presently he is Lord Lothian, known as Michael Ancram... just like Camilla is the Princess of Wales...

Order of Precedence 1: Ending 2022

Glad to be of use. :) The King was always mentioned first in the legal instruments of 1554-1558 and Mary I called Philip her 'Lord and Husband' in her will, so, I think, it is safe to infer that Philip preceded the Queen theoretically. However, it was Mary who exercised royal powers.

    Will Charles Ever Reign?

HM goes with the title of Queen, I've omitted the prefix.

    Will Charles Ever Reign?

Her Royal Highness The Princess Consort, without a name... Or she'll be a simple Queen Camilla. :)

    Royalty of Malaysia 1: September 2004-October 2006

It seems an unusual arrangement to me... How did it come to pass that the King of Malaysia represents Queen Elizabeth II at the military parade? BTW, is it a private or an official visit?

    Orders & Sashes

Yes, the ties between Norway and Scotland are strong... I've remembered that Norway was the third member of the Auld Alliance. If King Henri VII were on the throne of France, he would also be a Knight of the Thistle, I guess. :) And can a non-Christian monarch be honoured with the green ribbon...

    Korea - The Lost Empire

Does anyone kno why Emperor Gojong was made Knight Grand Commander of the Order of the Indian Empire in 1900? Why the British Government decided to honour him in such a way?

Order of Precedence 1: Ending 2022

Warren, Idriel, thank you for your welcome! So, as regards Mary Tudor, she was a Queen Regnant, the first such case in England (if we are to exclude Empress Mathilda, and we'd better do it), since 1553. On 25 July 1554 she married Prince Philip of Spain at Winchester Cathedral, and they took a...

Monarchy and Restoration; Rival Families and Claimants

Erm... a 'true' Eastern Orthodox Tsar elected by the Zemsky Sobor (a kind of Parliament which existed under late Rurikoviches and early Romanovs; Mikhail Romanov was elected Tsar on one of such gatherings), Orthodoxy as a state religion, expulsion of the Jews, the whole bit... Thankfully...

    Will Charles Ever Reign?

I think the Prince of Wales will have his short reign, and he should have his turn. He has been waiting for so long, and I hope that he'll have to wait some more—William IV ascended the throne at 64, why not surpass him as the oldest monarch in time of accession? :)

The Hypothetical Question of Prince William Living with his Girlfriend

Nothing prevents a daughter of William from reigning, just like nothing impeded the accession of Elizabeth in 1952... except a brother, or a Catholic husband, or converting to Catholicism.

Order of Precedence 1: Ending 2022

Actually, there was a precedent—the husband of Mary Tudor, Philip of Spain, was styled 'King of England'. It comes at no surprise, though, that the Government of 1857 decided not to follow in Mary and Philip's steps.

Some people on the lunatic fringe... they do not want the restoration of Romanovs, though.

Anne, Princess Royal Current Events 1: June 2004-August 2005

I'd like to ask what foreign royals attended the wedding of Princess Anne in 1973? I know about Queen Beatrix and Prince Claus, King Constantine II and Queen Anne-Marie, Crown Prince Harald (future Harald V) and Princess Sonja, Prince Juan Carlos (future Juan Carlos I) and Princess Sofia...
