The terms of the statement are very worrying. "Comfortable" and "with the sacraments of the Church". I am afraid they are preparing people for the worst.

It indeed sounds like they are preparing for the worst. He's been in hospital for 4 months by now.

His Royal and Imperial Highness Dom Antonio is the third in line for the Throne of Brazil. His Heir was Dom Pedro Luiz who died in a flight Crash in 2009. His Brother Raphael is now the 4th.
This is sad news for Belgium as Dona Christine was born Princesse de Ligne . Her Brother Prince Michel de Ligne , Head of the House , married Dom Antonio's Sister HRH Princess Eleonore

Since the death of his eldest brother in 2022, he has been second in line to the throne. Which is why he is referred to as 'Prince Imperial of Brazil' (as the heir to the head of the house/claimant to the Brazilian throne, prince Bertrand).

Thanks for correcting. If I am right Princes Luiz and Bertrand are unmarried.
Dom Rafael has to marry a Royal Lady as asked in the rules of his House ?

Former head of the house, Prince Luiz, died indeed unmarried and Bertrand is also unmarried. Antonio's other older brothers renounced the succession rights for themselves and their children, so after Bertrand, Antonio and his two younger children are next in line (his eldest sadly passed away in a plane crash in 2009 and his eldest daughter's marriage did not meet the house's requirements for an equal marriage).

He is first in line after his older brother who is the de jure Emperor

If he wants his uncle's permission he has. But I could see him waiting until he is himself Head of the House and change the rules.

Yes, if you consider his brother the emperor, he is indeed first in line. If you consider them pretenders that have not yet ascended the throne, you could consider his brother first in line and him second. In either way, he is the heir to the head of the house.

Thank you so much , I read this thread since its beginning , now I know more about the Imperial House of Brazil.
I am waiting the Statements about Dom Antonio , alas his health conditions are worsening. How sad!

The announcement is indeed quite worrying; let's hope there will be an improvement on the Prince's health.
