Buckingham Palace will be open to visitors this summer.
New opportunity to discover the history and splendor of Buckingham Palace! This summer, for the first time, the east wing of the palace opens its doors to visitors. Special guided tours of the Principal Floor will be available in July and August, offering an exclusive insight into this iconic venue.

The East Wing, including the famous central balcony and spectacular rooms adorned with treasures from the Royal Collection, will be accessible to small groups of visitors from Thursday July 11 to Sunday September 29, 2024. A unique opportunity to explore the history of this space, used for centuries by the British royal family for official events and important meetings.

I’m so disappointed. I’ll be in the UK briefly in July- but before BP opens. I’ve been to BP before, but it would have been so cool to see other parts of it.
 
They offer group tours over weekends so its worth checking there isn’t one of those on. They are pricier and the exhibit in the Ballroom wouldn’t be on but you are taken round by a guide in a group so get more info and can ask more questions.

2 of the 4 horses are wounded as well as 3 of the 4 jockeys. A cyclist also got wounded after an accident with one of the horses.

Apparently, one of the horses is known for his fierce character.

A really lovely Australian tv channel 7 report, with some wonderful footage, of the newly restored East Wing of Buckingham Palace … the part of the building that lies behind the famous front facade … that is now to be open to the public.

I watched that last night and was amazed by the restoration of wallpaper in the Yellow Room.

Yes, I was amazed they took it all down off the walls and then put it back An Ard Ri.
Truly masters at their jobs.

And also that so many aspects of the decor were originally in the Brighton Pavillion.

It would be wonderful to see inside this part of the Palace, as we are all so familiar with the outside and appearances on the balcony of various Royals over the decades .
To be on the other side, the inside, of those doors and windows would be pretty interesting.

(I’ve been inside the Palace, but many years ago, and the Royal mews were also wonderful to visit, but this would be a marvellous experience to have.)

What delicate hands those wallpaper specialists must have had!
Not a task I would relish!

Yes a truly fascinating insight into the lotus chandelier in the Centre Room ,i had no idea of its origins!
 
Great Report. Really interesting too see more of the East Wing and get more Information. In the scenes from the Corridor i could spot many familiar portraits.

Specially with that wallpaper. That is a real Puzzlework as everything needs to be on the same spot again.
 
I wonder if the opening of the East Wing is a one off or will become the new "normal". I believe the Principal Corridor running along it is where some of the RF had their rooms in the past. I guess if Anne and Edward stay at St James then there won't be an issue.

I think their rooms were on the floor above. Off the Principal Corridor are guest suites as far as I'm aware.
 
An exhibition of Italian Renaissance drawings will take open at The King's Gallery at Buckingham Palace from Friday November 1st until 9th of March ,2025.
 
Good old Queen Mary. An indefatigable collector of furniture, jewellery and objects de art, and keen eye for all types of interior decoration. I have read that her father the Duke of Teck had a great interest in furniture and interiors, so it was probably inherited.
