Remembrance and Liberation Day: May 4 and 5, 2004-2024

Thank you very much for these pictures, The Watcher. A very solemn occasion.

I find it 'unusual' (but in a good way!) that Maurits was present at this occasion, but I did not see pictures of Constantijn and Laurentien, or Margriet and Pieter van Vollenhoven.

Who else was in attendance aside from the Queen, Willem and Maxima, Bernhard and Maurits?

-Maurits and Bernhard were in Baarn (that's were Prince Bernhard lives)
-Beatrix, WA and Maxima were in Amsterdam
-And Pieter van Vollenhoven in Den Haag/Wassenaar (no pictures)
As every year, but the only different is that Maurits went to Baarn with his grandfather, because that is the first time that this happened (Last years Bernhard was the only royal person who went to Baarn).

Thank You so much for sharing these photos. Truely a solemn (sp) occasion. Thank You again.

This thread has now been cleaned up.

Unfortunately some posts had to be removed because of broken links. I hope we can add some more pictures as well as articles back into this thread.

I think this event was one of the last times we saw Prince Bernhard Sr. on an official event.

Beatrix looked very nice, but I did not like Maxima's head gear at all!! The feathers were in the wrong spot IMO

I was there during the ceremony on Dam Square. As it was crowded I did not see that much, but caught some glimpses of the royals. The ceremony was solumn, as always. And it seems the crowd gets bigger and bigger each year.

And that's a good thing! :)
I watched the ceremony on tv, as usual. Every year I'm touched by the solemnity of the people on the Dam square. Hope to go there too, one day.

Although the occasion was solemn, CP Maxima really didn't dress so nice.

That's nice to hear. The same thing is happening in Ottawa (& indeed across Canada) - the number of people coming out for Remembrance Day seems to increase every year. And in large part, I think we have the Dutch to thank for that. In 1995 (50th anniversary of VE Day), Canadians watched the Dutch treat our veterans like heroes. It made the front pages over here & seemed to be a bit of a revelation for us. It was like, if the Dutch are treating our veterans so respectfully, maybe it's time we did as well.

Maxima's suit is lovely: great fit and style. I also like the way her hair is pulled back into a soft bun at the nape of her neck. I wonder if she is wearing her hat wrong, that the feather should be on the side, the way I've seen some British soldiers wear the beret with feathers.

Who is the lady walking with Queen Beatrix? Is she a government minister?
