Historical:
The Ceremonial goes back to the time of Charles III when Monaco was becoming a modern state. At this tome the National Day was on Noveber 4th, the day of Saint-Charles.
So with every ruling soverein the day changed to his respective day of Saint.
Since 1951 now the Monégasque National Day is celebrated on November 19th, the day of Saint Rainier d'Arrezzo.
Meaning:
Like in all the countries around the world the National Day is to honor and celebrate the national traditions and the identification.
Monacos monarchie is since 7 centuries the basis for pride, tradition and identification.
At this very day all Monégasques and inhabitions of Monaco gather around the Prince Souverein, Head of State, and his family.
Traditions and festivities:
National Tradition: Honoring of the Minister of State and his work; Parade of troops
Religious Tradition: 'Messe d'action ae de grâce' in the cathedral of Monaco to underline the identification with the Catholic Religion.
Celebrating Traditions: Soiree de Gala, Spectacles, Happenings for the countries children,fireworks
Social Traditions: Destrebution of presents to less priviliged people, people in hospital or ill in any other way and older people , by the members of the princely family
