On May 11th, Crown Princess Kiko attended a PTA meeting at Ochanomizu University Junior High School in Bunkyo, Tokyo. The school apologized to the parents for the security breach and explained security measures ahead of classes resuming on the 13th.

To recap: On April 26th, a 56 year old man posed as a plumber, entered the school for 20 minutes intending to stab Prince Hisahito. However the class was outside so the intruder left a "pitchfork" contraption of 2 fruit knives taped to a pole on the prince's desk.

A curious difference. Perhaps the Akishinos chose to continue a practice they are familiar with? Or is it another signal intended to mark the Akishinos' status as not completely equal to Naruhito's and Masako's status in the last reign? Or does Prince Akishino again wish to send a message about his interest in reducing costs?

:previous: Probably continue what the Akishino family is familiar with. They will also continue travel in regular train cars instead of reserving train cars like Emperor Akihito and Crown Prince Naruhito.

On June 2nd, Crown Princess Kiko and Princess Mako attended a special Noh performance celebrating the emperor's ascension by "Daiken Festival's Entertainment" at the Yokohama Noh Theater in Kanagawa Prefecture.

Maybe it is to reduce costs. As currently there is the retired emperor and empress, the current emperor and empress. It is thought that one of the reasons for abduction was to increase the budget/security/ status of the Akishino family who is raising a future emperor. maybe they want to to reciprocate the favor for his parents.

I hadn't thought of this, but it is quite believable with the Akishinos being given a higher profile after they produced a son and Prince Hisahito's status apparently being a sensitive topic (as the Japanese media seem to steer away from clearly discussing his future as an Emperor, even though the public is aware that there is no doubt Hisahito will ascend the throne one day). The crown prince and princess do appear to be on close terms to the emperor emeritus and empress emerita.

I don't believe the Japanese media are avoiding Prince Hisahito's future. He's clearly identified as 2nd in succession.

NHK reports Crown Prince Akishino, Crown Princess Kiko, and Prince Hisahito may visit Bhutan privately in late August for about 10 days during Prince Hisahito's summer vacation.

Agenda considerations include visiting to Thimphu, meeting Bhutan's royal family, spending time in nature, and Crown Prince Akishino's biology research. If approved, it will be the Prince Hisahito's first overseas trip and earlier than his uncle's and father's first overseas experiences. Both Emperor Naruhito and Crown Prince Akishino travelled abroad in their 3rd year of junior high. Emperor Naruhito had a homestay in Australia for 15 days, Crown Prince Akishino spent 14 days in New Zealand.

On June 21st, Crown Prince Akishino and Crown Princess Kiko attended a press conference ahead of their official visit to Poland and Finland at Akasaka East residence.

The press asked about Princess Mako and Kei Komuro. Crown Prince Akishino said "I haven't heard from my daughter, so I don't know how she's thinking about what it's like now."
