The Princess of Asturias 18th Birthday

Moncloa, Zarzuela and the Cortes advance for the constitutional swearing-in of Princess Leonor on October 31.

For this reason, and forty days before the Heir to the Crown reaches the age of majority, the Congress of Deputies yesterday hosted a discreet meeting between the president of the Lower House, Francina Armengol; the president of the Senate, Pedro Rollán; the Minister of the Presidency, Félix Bolaños, and the head of the King's House, Jaime Alfonsín. This has been confirmed to ABC by different sources familiar with the meeting.
They met yesterday in the Lower House to organize the event.

The Royal House confirms that Princess Leonor will swear in the Constitution on October 31

The Princess of Asturias will swear in the Constitution before the Cortes on October 31. This was confirmed this Friday by sources from the Royal House, after the meeting they held this Thursday with the Minister of the Presidency, Félix Bolaños, and the presidents of the Congress and the Senate, the socialist Francina Armengol and the popular Pedro Rollán.

After the solemn session of the Congress and the Senate, Leonor de Borbón will receive the Collar of the Order of Carlos III in the Royal Palace in the presence of the powers of the State and there will also be a private celebration in El Pardo Palace with the Royal Family, sources have added.

Finally confirmation. Good thing it will happen on the scheduled date. :flowers:

The National Mint and Stamp Factory - Royal Mint will create and put into circulation a 40 euro collectible coin on the occasion of the 18th birthday of Princess Leonor who will celebrate her birthday on October 31, as published by the BOE this Wednesday.

I believe that, by Royal Palace, you mean the Royal Palace of Madrid, which is where order investitures normally take place.

I being one who had doubts about her being physically strong enough to take on let alone complete a strenuous officers training.
Only two years ago Leonor looked so frail that you'd be forgiven for thinking she couldn't crack a hardboiled egg.
- She can still crack though, but more as a result of an injury, I think.

That is one more invention from the press that no one has confirmed, and that seems quite unlikely to be true, since today the Royal Family has confirmed that Juan Carlos will not attend the institutional events of Leonor's 18th birthday, but he will attend family dinner at El Pardo.

We will have to wait and see, of course there's no way he's showing up at Congress for Leonor -he didn't even do that for Felipe- but I wouldn't rule out an appearance in Zaragoza, since it's not an event related to Leonor's birthday.
Juan Carlos can't be erased from the planet.

It will be interesting to see who's invited to the private party at El Pardo. Will we see Cristina?

The event at the Zaragoza Academy is not an event open to the public, but an event organized by the army, where relatives of officers go with invitation, and attended by the Head of State and probably the Minister of Defense... Juan Carlos cannot appear there without being invited.

Infanta Cristina and her children are also invited to the dinner at El Pardo... and that has been confirmed by the Royal House.

Perhaps we should focus on officially confirmed information, and not on the fake news invented by the Spanish press.

And precisely when did I imply that the Jura de Bandera is a public event? Juan Carlos IS a relative of Leonor, the Head of State happens to be his son. He can very well be invited.

and apart from the family relation, I think it is safe to say that without Juan Carlos there would be no monarchy in Spain for Leonor to inherit. Of course Juan Carlos has a place at those events.

Not to make this thread about JC, but he'd have had a guaranteed place at these events had he not behaved so scandalously and unnecessarily corruptly and endangered the monarchy himself, singlehandedly. Not to mention leaving an awful lot for Felipe and possibly even Leonor to clean up.

I'm sorry for him, for several reasons, but he f'ed up, rather largely, and blood alone isn't enough to either automatically atone or earn an invite to any of this. It would be different if we knew he and Felipe were speaking, for example.
 
It's regrettable that Leonor's milestones this Fall will be marred by the "will he or won't he attend" gossip sure to follow JC. At the same time, his controversial attendance would surely overshadow the future Queen.
 
On January 30, 1986, Prince Felipe turned 18 and swore the Constitution in Congress and received the Order of Carlos III at the Royal Palace. The protocol for Leonor's events will be similar, although probably, as happened with her father's Proclamation, we will not see long dresses.

Thanks Lula, I am surprised the ladies wore long dresses back then. Usually with Morning Dress for the men there is a short dress for ladies?
I only recall the long dresses after 1800, when men wear the black tie.

The combination of morning dress / long dress, in Spain, is used at Pascua Militar and at the reception of the Diplomatic Corps.... probably because although they are events that are celebrated in the morning, they are very solemn and both soldiers and members of the diplomatic corps wore their dress uniforms.

The Royal Family used it in the proclamation of Juan Carlos and the swearing in of Felipe, perhaps with the intention of giving more solemnity to the act, but customs have changed and it is a dress code that does not make much sense in a Parliament where the majority go dressed in normal suits.
 
Thanks and you are right about those 2 events although Felipe himself does not wear the morning dress but a military uniform, but the other participants do.
I agree with you that there won't be long dresses at both events for Leonor.
 
Felipe wears morning suit at the civil ceremony, the diplomatic reception. And for the Pascual Militar the dress code is military uniform or morning suit.

In any case the dress code of Leonor's ceremony is unlikely (or impossible imo) to be "dressier" than the one of the King's proclamation.
 
To me that only sort of looks like her.
 
The Council of Ministers, at the proposal of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has requested in its meeting this Tuesday that the Congress and the Senate hold the joint session on October 31 so that Princess Leonor, coinciding with the day in that she is of legal age, sworn by the Constitution. He has also decided to grant the King's daughter the collar of the Order of Carlos III, the highest civil distinction granted by Spain.

I'd imagine so and I doubt we'll see any photos and will be very low key in stark contrast to the Scandinavian Royals.
