What a fascinating photo! What was the occasion?

From what I have gathered on the National Portrait Gallery Website with the same black and white image taken in 17th November 1907, the small white captions reads "The Royal Group Taken at Windsor During Kaiser's Visit November 1907"

The GettyImage has the heading "The Royal Gathering at Windsor, November 17th 1907"

After googling "17th November 1907 Windsor", one of the search option leads to an extract/preview on the book, Wilhelm II Into the Abyss of War and Exile, 1900–1941, more specifically on Chapter twenty-two - The Kaiser’s visit to Windsor and Highcliffe, November to December 1907. I do not have the access to the Cambridge University Press website, but I can guess that this image is in this book. I do think the Royal Gathering happened, because of the Kaiser's visit to the UK.

As well as Highcliffe the Kaiser also visited nearby houses at Crichel (now owned by a Texan) & Kingston Lacey (now NT). Both beautiful estates. From Highcliffe there are lovely views over to the Isle of Wight which the Kaiser would have known well.

The Kaiser always fancied himself as something of an English squire.

Is Infanta Isabella the aunt of King Alfonso XIII?

On the 45th Wedding Anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II and The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh (20th November 1992), the North East corner and St George's Hall of Windsor Castle was on fire. Five years later on their 50th anniversary, the restoration was complete.

Windsor Restored.

An old but quite fascinating documentary on fighting the fire, (and the first panic,) and the aftermath!

Thank you Curryong for sharing the video on restoring Windsor Castle after the fire.

Wonderful documentary on the excellent work by the restoration specialists, architects, engineers, as well as the heroic action by the fire brigade and the saving of historical content by the army, palace workers and Prince Andrew.

It's also lovely to see Prince Philip, Prince Charles and Prince Andrew doing sit down interviews and talking about the restoration process.

It's almost as if a prince Charles was prescient as many of the traditional artisans were graduates of The Princes Trust work with a dying breed of artisans whose skills were put to great use teaching those skills that created the rich history of the UK.

From traditional stonemasons to wood carving, embroidery experts skilled in the area of tapestry and also tapestry repair. We were fortunate to have some of those graduates help save the few treasured landmarks in
Christchurch that the earthquake didn't total.

They did an amazing job. I’ve said from when the fire was still burning in Norte Dame, these are the people that need to be contacted to repair that cathedral.

The jewel cabinet of Princess Marie-Joséphine-Louise de Savioe,Countess de Provence which was once housed by the Princess Palais du Petit-Luxembourg and end up at Windsor Castle. The furniture belonging to Louis XVI's sister in law was confiscated in 1793 and later sold off. It was acquired by George IV for Windsor Castle.

Its now part of the Royal Collection Trust

What a gorgeous piece of furniture. George IV had a good eye!

Mahogany is such a beautiful wood.

It suits the White Drawing Room perfectly. It's a room The Queen seems to use a lot for audiences when at Windsor.

He paid just 400 guineas for it!

There was probably an abundance of French antique furniture/art on the market following the French Revolution ,he seems to have a acquired it at a knock down price.

Yes it's fortunate for the modern Royal Collection that he had the money & taste to collect as he did.

It made up for the terrible art sales under Cromwell. Although even he realised the value of the Raphael Cartoons.

Garage sales (car boot) today just aren't what they used to be.
A beautiful piece housed where it can be appreciated by the many visitors and looked after.

Also at Windsor Castle is the armor of Henry VIII which dates from c1540.

The Royal Collection Trust has released a video including pictures of Windsor Castle ahead of its opening on 17th May.

Great news! Wonderful to be returning to some sense of normality.
