On January 9th, the impressive outdoor area of the island of Mainau shone in the magical lights of the Christmas Garden for the last time this winter. The popularity and enthusiasm for the successful concept were enormous: after dusk, the Christmas Garden attracted around 65,000 guests to the flower island in Lake Constance. A sensational success that significantly exceeded the rather subdued expectations of the premiere season due to the corona-related restrictions.
"It's a good thing that we decided to hold the Christmas Garden Mainau," says Mainau Managing Director countess Bettina Bernadotte. "I have the impression that we inspired a lot of people with this enchanting winter wonderland on the island at a time when they could really use it!"
Mainau Managing Director count Björn Bernadotte also praises the good cooperation with the Christmas Garden team: "We are very pleased and happy that we have embarked on this adventure together with Mr. Doll and his team and that this magical Mainau winter attraction as a Christmas Garden Mainau was done. All people in Mainau enjoyed the implementation and gave our guests a wonderful winter experience.”

Countess Bettina Bernadotte was a board member at Plan International from 1996 to 2006. She has been a member of the Board of Trustees of Plan International Germany since July 2006.

Countess Bettina is also the chairman of the Mentor-Stiftung Deutschland (Mentor Foundation Germany) and member of the supervisory board of the World Heritage Foundation for the Monastic Island of Reichenau.

Countess Bettina and count Björn Bernadotte thanked the finance director of Mainau GmbH, Manfred Haunz, who is taking early retirement after 35 years with the company.
Manfred "Fredi" Haunz started the partial retirement on February 23 with his last work day on the island. He will officially retire on September 1st, 2023.
Manfred Haunz has a very close personal connection to Mainau. He is the cousin of Mainau managing directors countess Bettina and count Björn Bernadotte. He is the third Haunz generation to work as an authorized signatory at Mainau, his father, Sonja Countess Bernadotte's brother, and grandfather already held this position.
Countess Bettina said in her farewell speech: "For us at Mainau, an era is coming to an end, because we are not only saying goodbye to a long-standing committed colleague, but also to a wonderful person and a close family member." And count Björn added: "We would like to thank Manfred Haunz for his many years of work on Mainau and for his great passion for the island. During this time, "Fredi" was able to actively shape many things."

German soprano Anneliese Rothenberger (1919-2010) was a close friend of the Mainau's Bernadotte family, and the godmother of count Björn Bernadotte.

Anneliese Rothenberger maintained close relationships with the Bernadotte family on the island of Mainau, just a twenty-minute drive from her Untersee villa. The soprano practically belonged to the family and was – herself childless – godmother to count Björn Bernadotte, who today manages the Mainau company with his sister. "I loved her voice. It was absolutely amazing how much voice came out of this delicate person."
Anneliese sang at the christening of Count Björn on a ship in Sweden. And Count Björn likes to tell how he watched crime novels on television with Anneliese Rothenberger as a child in Salenstein on the sofa. "She loved the Edgar Wallace and Agatha Christie strips."
A room in Mainau Castle with various personal items commemorates the friendship between Anneliese Rothenberger and the Mainau family. Since 1999 there has been an Anneliese Rothenberger singing competition for young international singers on the island every two years. “Sometimes she found it almost a shame that only two prizes were awarded to the young singers who were so close to her heart. Sometimes she came with money from her private coffers and slipped it to one or the other singer," says count Björn.

After two difficult Corona years, the Mainau Flower Island is preparing for the start of a double anniversary season on March 18th. On the occasion of the settlement of the Teutonic Order on the island 750 years ago and the 275th anniversary of the baroque castle, a lavish party is being planned in thegardens, said countess Bettina Bernadotte. The flower year will be opened with the flowering of around 3000 orchids in the palm house.
Countess Bettina said that they have had two difficult years and they have suffered economically. Mainau had to postpone the start of the season last year due to the pandemic. One now hopes that the year 2022 will be marked by normalization and revival. Countess Bettina said that they look forward with hope. Many guests had signaled that they wanted to visit Mainau. Weddings and celebrations are also planned again. The season in the double anniversary year 2022 has the motto "Schlossjuwel & Gartenrausch" ("Castle Jewel and Garden Rush"). A highlight for visitors should be two walk-in flower dresses.

With a bright sun, but cold wind and temperatures of only 15 degrees, many people flocked to Lake Bodensee on Easter Sunday. The island of Mainau was a major attraction. On Sunday morning, queues formed in front of the cash desks in the park on the outskirts of Konstanz. Mainau GmbH had already counted up to 5,000 visitors per day in the past few days. On Easter Sunday and Monday there should be even more. Last year, the island was closed at Easter due to the Corona rules.
Mainau started the season on March 18th. Traditionally, however, the long Easter weekend is considered to be the real start with a particularly large number of visitors.

7th Lindau Meeting on Economic Sciences – #LINOecon:
The Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings inform 427 young economists about their invitation to the 7th Lindau Meeting on Economic Sciences. This year, young economists from two selection processes will meet in the Lindau Inselhalle from 23–27 August. For those researchers originally selected in 2020 it took two years due to the pandemic to finally experience the Lindau Spirit. Together with economists from an additional selection process last autumn, they will now network with each other and exchange experiences with around 20 Laureates of the Sveriges Riksbank's Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel.
"We are delighted about this great response and hope to be able to welcome five Laureates who have never been to Lindau before," says Countess Bettina Bernadotte, President of the Council.
