That explains his Portuguese surname (Ferro Melo), but I would expect Guilherme rather than William. It is odd that he has an English given name.

I read that too and it’s because he was caught out with a group of women who clearly weren’t his fiancé

Why odd? Many people around the world has English names. One of my given names is as American as apple pie without me having any family connection to both that country or the English language.
