Queen Mary's Eveningwear Part 1: January 2024 -

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
I'm not keen on the whole look, I think you are right sister Morphine, the necklace gets lost, I'm not keen on the lace either .

I love the gown. It gives me a medieval vibe. The color is perfect for her and the parure and appears to be velvet. It reminds me of the dark red gown she wears at the new years court. Long white nails a bit off putting
Who was the designer?

Mary looks fantastic! Gorgeous gown, and how nice to see this parure on her. I honestly didn't even notice the necklace until reading previous posts so it really does get lost with the neckline. That's a minor quibble. She looks beautiful.

One thing for sure is that Mary looks regal and knows the importance of the family jewels for such occassions.

A different dress/gown and it would have been a winner.

Her nails aren't long and look pale pink or flesh-colored (well, flesh-colored for her). They're perfectly respectable.

As for the dress's designer, considering it looks exactly like the dark red gown she's worn for nytårskurs in the past, I'll wager it's by the same designer -- Birgit Hallstein.

I was wondering whether she might start using this dress for the New Years court.

The new portrait photos portray a very regal, mature and sophisticated Queen. I think the gown of black lace and velvet, plus of course the number of significant jewellery pieces, deliberately creates this vibe.
It obviously helps that she’s a very attractive woman, but she’s definitely in her prime. Serene and pretty wonderful!

I think that's a new dress! It's stunning. She gets to show off her new orders; Frederik's family order and the Order of the Seraphim.

Okay - I might be imagining things - but I think she has once again reworked the gold dress that she reworked with the black lace for QMII's jubilee in 2022 - is that the skirt of that dress with a new gorgeous top portion? Wow -she looks stunning!

I'm a bit underwhelmed with this dress and choice of jewels. She has not taken things up a notch as I thought she would have done as Queen on this visit.

I would actually have preferred the full gold one, it's more regal looking. I admire her for recycling clothes too but I thought she would have pulled out all the stops for this visit with new day/evening wear and some new jewellery.

No need to buy when she can rework a gorgeous gown. Way to go Mary!
She have time to buy new but the way they rework this looks new to me
The gown is gorgeous and I love she was conscious of the fact that she knew she was likely wearing the rubies and re-worked the dress accordingly. It looks like a total cohesive look from head to toe...and that is what she is fantastic at - thinking of the entire look. She does not throw on all the bling for the sake of it - she does not need to go out and get a bespoke gown - and she looks every inch a QUEEN! Also, I a glad that she has not gone out and raided the jewelry coffers either just because she's Queen. There is no need to do that. She has more than enough time to wear all the jewels when appropriate and work with the pieces she now has access to. We have already seen her in the Emerald set in official photos. She is now wearing the ruby set because it is appropriate and good subtle diplomatic dressing. Next week in Norway we may see the pearl Poire. Queen Mary has always had a very understated and classic style and it is nice to see that she is not going to divert from that - and she should not have to just because strangers on the internet want her to (lol) or because she cannot wait to dive into the vault.

There is no problem with any lace on Queen Mary's dress. The Ruby necklace is perfectly visible and makes a beautiful accessory around the sheer neck of the dress.

Mary looks fantastic! I love the reworked dress. Does anybody know how many times this dress has been reworked?

This is the second rework of the gown. She first re-worked the dress for QMII's jubilee gala where black lace was added over the top and the top of the dress was reworked to a more off the shoulder style. And now, she has removed all the lace, left the skirt in its original form and completely changed the top portion of the gown. Showing there is no need to go out and buy a completely new gown when you have the ingenuity to work with the designer to re-work a gown and extend the life of a gala gown.

Jesper Høvring also designed that gorgeous dark blue sparkly dress Mary first wore to the Bambi Awards, then reworked for a New Year's Court, and then reworked again for Christian's 18th birthday gala.

Good that she reworks old dress but the original version is so perfect which made the later two versions so underwhelming for me. And the top of this version kind of reminds me figure skating costume.

The original version of the dress is boring, IMO. That shade of gold isn't very exciting, so it needs those reworkings to keep it from being blah. Otherwise, with her skin coloring, it washes her out.

Mary is the Queen of recycling - I love this version with the red lace overlay, its works very nicely with the Rubies

Its recycling and reinventing Mary at her best! Even though I like the original gown, I think this new version is beautiful too! I think she made sure it matched her ruby parure. It suits her very much.
