Denmark : Abdication & Accession Day - January 14, 2024

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
This ride through the narrow streets of Copenhagen has an intimate inclusive feel over it, because there are few if any barriers and people are close.

Mary is wearing WHITE!

Who put up that lovely banner saying "Merci" with Margrethe 2's monogram as the M?

Frederik is in his navy uniform, that should delight a few here. ;)

All the children are there!

The four kids are there, not just Christian.

Wow, all the children are also in the car, i hope they will also join the balcony appearance with the new King and Queen

Aaaand there they are. Margrethe, M&F + Christian!

Did the DR presenter just said "F***, what an image" ??
I don't blame her though!
The hussars are a sight to behold.

I think its a word that sounds like the notorious English word. I was watching the Danish news last night on a link and that word was mentioned couple of times, so I realized it just sounds like the #@$% word

So frustrating that we haven't been given a proper look of the queen or the Crow Prince couple yet. :D

The signing of the abdication will not be televised.
What is going on at the State Councils have always and will remain confidential.
- But photos will be published afterwards.

I'll ask here as well, is there a list of mottoes of previous monarchs?

Is it possible or likely that Frederik will select a previously used motto?

It does. I'm aware that many foreign royal watchers had wished for more glitter, but this has the feel of a heartfelt, personal sendoff for Queen Margrethe II.

The guard driving the horse carriage is maneuvering those belts like a steering wheel.
She is now arriving!

Loving this and we're only just begun. Mary wearing a brooch I can't see properly but looking gorgeous.

(On an entirely frivolous note, the Danish security/bodyguard man walking in front on the right hand side of the Queen's carriage, is my new Danish crush.)

In Australia I am watching live on Sky News. It is heartwarming to see how many have turned out for this historic occasion, in cold weather.
The Mahogany coach built in 1892 is really beautiful, with silk lining.

Good God, look at all those people!

A most wonderfull sight isn´t it!!Just overwhelming, goes to show how loved Queen Margrethe II and the King and Queen to be are in Denmark!Moving.

It appears Prince Joachim has just arrived at Christiansborg.

The official website of the Royal House (kongehuset.dk), which was already not accessible since a while ago, now states it is down because changes are being made to reflect the change of reign. Couldn't it have been done without such a long downtime?

It appears Prince Joachim has just arrived at Christiansborg.

What about Princess Benedikte? She is in the same position as Prince Joachim and Frederik's younger children.

Sister of Margrethe, not a child.Only the new King, his children and his brother are present.i.e. direct family only.

See Margrethe leaving..Bless Her.

Long live King Frederik X

That is unfortunate. The signing of the abdication should be a public act in my opinion.

Is the new King required to take an oath or sign a warrant at the Council of State as in other countries? If so, that should be a public act too.

King Frederik and Queen Mary.

QMII has left Christiansborg.

He did when he turned 18. So no.

That would also mean an interregnum, and there is no such thing in DK.

Surprising, I'd have thought it possible to keep it up and make the changes, probably have a new landing page with the old stuff behind it.

Sad that the actual meting and signing of the abdication is behind closed doors.

The Queen is now leaving

Leaving to what sound like hearty cheers.

(It feels slightly odd to me to refer to her as Queen Margrethe rather than Queen Margrethe II.)

It's official, King Frederik 10 Er nu Konge af Danmark* Frederik has tears as his mother signs the document

*I think we are all going to learn new words today!

Looks as if all Danes are along the route, what a beautifull sight, really!!!

Oh,the Act of Abdication itself....a rather cold affair...mommy gets up,no kiss...nothing...just a nod...Oh well...
