Spain State Visits/Official Visits: General Discussion

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
The visit to Denmark it's a posibility, after the visits from the Netherlands and Belgium, and because the last visit was in 1980. To Norway it is less likely, because the last visit was in 2006.

Does that mean that there are State Visits from the Netherlands and from Belgium to Spain planned? Should it not be the other way as King Willem-Alexander and King Philippe are reigning longer then King Felipe.

I think Lula is referring to visits (not state visits) that were already made by at least the Dutch king and queen who went on some kind of 'introduction tour' shortly after the start of Willem-Alexander's reign.

could be but if i remember right they were before the change of Throne in Spain.

I was referring to the fact that after the visits of the Netherlands and Belgium to Denmark, it was foreseeable that Spain would also have been invited.

Much better if you clarify yourself indeed. And it makes sense, both the new kings of both the Netherlands and Belgium went to Denmark for a statevisit, so Spain would be nice as another new king visiting a monarch whose been on the throne for 50 years.

That´s a pity... Germany has become such a bore when it comes to state visits!

You are so right. In ceremonial things we are the worst "developing country". Therefore I dislike my country.

After Scholz becoming chancellor and Steinmeier being president we will getting more boring atmosphere in ceremonials. Those two politicians are total fails.

Clearly your dress code did not stop Max from going big with the diamonds last summer.

Thank god otherwise we would have fallen asleep. Our politicians are very unsophisticated and frumpish. Scholz is a male Merkel.

Whilst Maxima may have been happy to bring out the tiara, her largest diamond earrings and a collet collier, I suspect Letizia may just wear a cocktail dress, with little or no jewellery.

The dress code will still be white tie, but I can easily imagine that scenario. We don't have any dazzling First Ladies either, no special effort necessary from Letizia.

If it is white tie, I would hope that Letizia does bring out a tiara. Perhaps not La Buena, but perhaps one of the other 2 Pearl and Diamond tiaras.

Letizia is rather unimaginative on the jewel front so I think this may very well what to expect.

I don't know whether it is a case of being unamiginative in relation to jewels or just being very conscience of leading a monarchy that has seen difficult times and is not completely out of the woods for reasons not directly attributable to the King and Queen. The ostentatious display of jewellery is often not appreciated by the public at large, and IMO, that is why senior members of the British and Spanish RF's try and tread a cautious line.

Letizia doesn't need to be decked up like a Christmas tree but she could use her imagination once in a while and not have the same bare arms look all the time. There are lots of not so expensive and personal pieces in her dust covered jewel chest that have not seen the light of day in well over a decade.

Maxima of course was wrong showing off in an inappropriate occasion (typical "nouveau riche" attitude that we have come to expect from her). Letizia on the other hand will abide by the dress code determined by the host, as she should do. I doubt it will be cocktail dress, as German state dinners are black tie, but I see no need for a tiara. If she chooses to wear one, it will be something small and discreet like Queen Maria Christina's Floral, but I don't believe she will wear any.

EDIT: Maybe we might see the Ansorena Asturias tiara again, although I would like to see the Mellerio Shell whose status remains shrouded in mystery (some claim that the tiara is too damaged to be worn).

Fair point. But perhaps , she is just not that fond of wearing jewellery.

Yes sadly that seems to be the case, shame as Letizia has some rather lovely pieces.

She does, indeed. She also seems to have good access to Queen Sofia's not insubstantial jewel casket.

Sadly she won't wear a tiara...the Spanish royal ladies haven't worn tiaras in state visits to republics in the last 30 years or so... Sofía didn't (in fact she didn't wear a tiara at some White tie Royal events) and Letizia didn't in her state visit to Portugal (White tie)

Sadly you are right, One of a few exceptions was a state visit to Austria in 1995, Sofia wore the Prussian Tiara.. It would be a miracle to see Letizia with a Tiara in a republic.

Yes a tradition I wish Letizia as queen would reverse.

Not white tie but black tie. Not even for Queen Elizabeth II. it was upgraded. The last white tie State Banquet is quiet some time ago and it was probably changed by Johannes Rau as President because during Roman Herzog's time in office there was still a white tie State Dinner for King Albert II. and Queen Paola.

What is the reason Queen Sofia never wore a tiara in a Republicv and why had Queen Letizia to follow her example.

She also doesn't in other events for example when presenting a flag she doesn't wear a long black gown and mantilla anymore.

I imagine that they don't wear tiaras in every White tie events due to a personal preference, there's never been an official statement.

Similarly I imagine that it's Queen Letizia's personal preference not to wear a long black dress and a mantilla with peineta when delivering the flag. I imagine (but that's my personal opinion of course) that she feels like she's playing dress up in a mantilla and peineta. That dresscode was set up by Queen Sofía, in my mind, because it looked "typical Spanish" to her (It was very much a Francoist women of the regime look). Queen Ena delivered the flag in regular daytime clothes for example, so It wasn't a tradition that had to be mantained.

Yes sorry black tie. The First Ladies usually wear long dresses.
QEII or Maxima wore a tiara, but my guess would be as well that Letizia won't.
