I was last week in Caen and have visited the grave of William the Conqueror. Now I want to show you a picture of the grave.
Alice was a granddaughter of Queen Victoria and was born at Windsor Castle.
well not quite......alice was a great granddughter of the old queen...
queen victoria> princess alice grand duchess of hesse>princess victoria of hesse>princess alice of battenburg.
btw....some years ago i had read that the remains of princess alice was to be removed from her burial place in jerusalem......but i do not know the outcome of this.....i would be very interested to know the outcome please !!
Oops, sorry, my mistake in omitting "great" before granddaughter. Thank you for the correction, jonnydep. There is a wonderful biography called "Alice, Princess Andrew of Greece" by Hugo Vickers and in the epilogue, Vickers details all of the obstacles surmounted before Alice could be moved to Jerusalem. As far as I know, her body still lies there near her aunt.
Great thread. That pic is nice. Also, I didn't know there were so many british monarchs buried in France! It's interesting
After a brief search, I found a list which shows Henry II and Richard I buried in France but it also lists William the Conqueror as being buried at Waltham Abbey. That can't be right, can it?
Caroline Mathilde is not buried in Roskilde Cathedral. She was thrown out of Denmark after the affair with Struensee was discovered and spend her remaining years (she was only 26 at the time of her death) in Celle, near Hannover, Germany and she is buried in the vault of Celle Castle Church.
Prince Philippe has never visited his fathers' grave at Tatoi Royal Cemetery, near Athens. It's because the Duke of Edinburgh didn't like his father? Maybe...but the truth is that prince Andrew's grave is abandoned, i visited the place last week...As far as I can tell, Jonny, Princess Alice is still buried at the Church of St. Mary Magdalene in Jerusalem.
On the contrary, prince Philippe has never visited his fathers' grave at Tatoi Royal Cemetery, near Athens. It's because the Duke of Edinburgh didn't like his father? Maybe...but the truth is that prince Andrew's grave is abandoned, i visited the place last week...
Very interesting thread. I wanted to visit the grave of eleanor and richard the lionheart next year.
Does anyone know, where Richards Sohn Philippe of cognac lies?
I didnt find anything about his grave on google, but i guess, it must be in france also.
Can anyone help me with this?
