:previous: Prinsara, What a treasure trove of magnificent pictures! I especially like the photo of Princess Alexandra and Prince Edward playing with their toys.

You're welcome, Cyril. PA is a favorite of many, not just mine, so I figured these would be enjoyed. :flowers:

There's an anecdote I believe I heard on Quora from a man at an auto show... there was a lady whose suit happened to perfectly match the paint of his car, so he asked if he could take a picture. Then after a minute he noticed how many people were watching. He said "Should I know who you are?" She said "No, you shouldn't." = Alexandra. :)

I met her once at a garden party, what I remember is her beautiful voice.

I’m putting this here rather than in the threads relating to the funeral of Elizabeth II. Mods please move if you think it’s appropriate.

I was pleased that Marina attended with Princess Alexandra. Those of us who were around when she married Paul Mowatt can probably remember the headlines and just how much the tabloid press rejoiced in the Royal who rebelled. If I remember correctly, there were photos celebrating her being awarded “rear of the year” (Yes, the British tabloid media really hasn’t evolved).

I do remember how much hurt her words of criticism of Princess Alexandra and Sir Angus Ogilvy would have caused them.

It’s lovely to see that the person who supported Alexandra throughout the many services and commemorations of Queen Elizabeth was Marina.

It gives hope that rebellious young people can sometimes grow to realise their parents were not the ogres they thought them to be.

I have frequently seen pictures of Zenouska with her grandmother. It’s nice to see that Zenouska supports her and seems to respect her heritage.

Has Alexandra' now retired? She has looked very frail this year.

She is not yet retired but one cant help but worry given her age

If/when she does officially retire, will there be an announcement?
There are almost never announcements when royals retires completely unless they are a monarch or spouse of a monarch…. We usually only hear when other royals retires from a patronage or hands over a military colonelcy to someone else…

Alexandra appeared to be unwell at the coronation and looked even more unwell at the memorial service for King Constantine… Given that she turns 88 in 3 months i am worried for her…

The Princess has indeed looked very frail over the past few years.

There was an announcement with The Duchess of Kent and Prince and Princess Michael of Kent when they each retired from public life. I would expect the same from Princess Alexandra.

As both Alexandra and her older brother are now nearing their 90:s and is in visibly declining health (even though the Duke seems to be in better health than his sister) i thought maybe they simply regards their passing as their final ”retirement”…

Was the announcement in relation to Prince & Princess Michael of Kent made by BP, or by they themselves? I thought it was a private announcement by Michael & M-C.

It was indeed a private announcement by the Michaels.

Princess Alexandra hasn’t had any official engagements since May 2023, so we can presume she has effectively retired. No announcement necessary.

Her stopping engagements due to age/ill health, but unless there is a retirement announcement, will the charities she is patron of mind her not having any involvement?

She may not be actively involved with her charities via the CC but that doesn't mean she isn't still doing things such as getting reports and keeping in touch and sending messages.

Ideally, I would like to see Charles ask Alexandra, the Duke of Kent and the Gloucesters to retire. Their patronages could be redistributed between the core royal family.

About 400 of the late Queen and Duke of Edinburgh's patronages - along with some that Charles and Camilla had as Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall have already been told they will no longer have a royal patron as the core royals have taken on all the new patronages they intend to do. About 400 lost their royal patronage earlier this year. Your suggestion would see another 400 or so lose their royal patronage.

Which means sadly for the relevant organisations, an inevitable significant reduction over the coming years - well, until the next generation are old enough to take on these responsibilities, or if there is a change of heart from the Monarch, which I doubt will be the case.

I have never seen the point of someone being patron of several hundred charities. It is too many charities to actually be involved with. A smaller number would make more sense in my opinion. Certainly no more that 100. Even that is a huge number of organisations.

I doubt that ‘the next generation’, which I take to mean Prss Charlotte and Pr Louis, will be taking over 100 charity patronages each in another say 20 years. I expect them both to have careers in the private sector and go the York Princesses route if they do decide to take on patronages etc. Half a dozen each perhaps, and concentrate on those four or five times a year.
