The book covers the early years of Prince Philip when he was a relative cypher and the least senior agnate of a royal family more often in exile than in power during his youth spent mostly elsewhere. Whatever one thinks of the book overall, using Greek-language texts, it is a unique source of information previously unknown by most non-Greeks, particularly its insights into the relationship & personalites of Philip’s parents. Most interesting to me was the pivotal story of a senseless fatal accident (for which Andrew bore some responsibility) and its possible lasting impact on the psyche of his young, upbeat and popular wife in the years to come.
