Least Appreciated Royal Jewel: Queen Margrethe's "Golden Poppies" Hair Ornament

I agree the starwars tiara is terrible, and it does not help that Queen Sonja dyes her hair almost yellow as well. Maybe it would look better on Princess Märtha Louises brown hair. Another "tiara" I have trouble with is the golden Poppies of Queen Margrethe, it looks fine when she puts one or two in her chignon but when she puts all of them at the top of her head it looks like she has a flower garden up there http://www.theroyalforums.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=31109&d=1071376973 (IBL)

Ooh, this picture is a mess, this whole look is a mess, with the popies in the hair, the big dangling poppy earrings and the poppy necklace with a high - neck lace collar. What was she thinking of?

I have to agree. The poppy thing is a really ugly piece of jewelry... :(

Maybe Queen Margrethe want to have smth like Empress Elisabeth's diamond stars:confused:

Definitely an understatement!

And it was Dorothy who said, "Lions, and tigers, and bears..oh my!" Well, she didn't see this eyesore either or she would've said, "Lions, and tigers, and bears, and your hideous tiara..oh my!"

Hej UserDane, so nice to see you again !!!!

I believe in hundred years or so the golden christmas-tree-candlelight holder (that's what it looks like to me) will become the hippest accessory of them all. Christian's future daughter Margrethe 3 will rule with this thing on her head

If we are lucky maybe we will even live to see it :D

I've got to weigh in on the poppy headpiece/tiara fiasco. I think the borg queen on the star trek series had less frightening headgear! How can you take gold and gems and make something sooooo unpleasant?
I hope Mary decides to keep this one in the vault when she's queen.
Having said all that, I'd love to see it up close and if Her Majesty wanted to give it to me I wouldn't say no:D

About the poppies

I actually think that the poppies of Queen Margrethe can be quite nice, and I emphasize CAN.:) If she wears just a couple of them (you can split them up), and not the earrings and necklace, they are nice and not to over the top. She did so at the engagement dinner for Frederik and Mary, if I remember correctly. If I'm wrong, please correct this

We should also not forget that the queen and Mary have different hair colours. With Margrethe's almost white hair I agree this yellow tiara doesn't look good at all. More like  But with Mary's dark hair the yellow poppies might actually look nice. Maybe someone with good photoshop skills can give it a try? ;) :p :D

DEar People,

Let us not go and spoil a great thing and have the incredible Princess Mary go and ruin everything by plopping any of those poppy horrors on her gorgeous little head. She does not need to look like the original Earth Mother in Star Trek or whatever. Why should she? She has one of the most sublime jewels in creation in the form of the Desiree Clary ruby parure. If you have not seen her picture with that masterpiece bedecking her splendid highness, practige Pract indeed- do go take a long and delighted look and you will see why we in South Carolina have the perfect saying for this situation: "If it aint broke, why fix it. " Cheers. Thomas Parkman

I thought the saying was: "if it ain't Baroque, fix it."

...and the poppies ain't!

It's definately not pretty, but the worst? I'm still voting for Margrethe's poppies.

btw, Thomas and Janet- her name is LadyCat :hellokitty:

I agree with LadyK - it's not great but wearable, unlike Margrethe's poppies!:yuk:

I can´t imagen why Margarethe wears that enormously ugly thing... It´s definatly the worst of the worst royal jewels

Why? HM seems to be amused herself! As we say in the States, "she got jokes"!

I say it is hopeless--from the head ornaments to the earrings. All that is lacking is a gold fishmerman's net to connect the ornaments to each other, and then it could be a hideous hair net.

I say melt it down (earrings too!! and then find some garnets and create a new parue. I say garnets because I think that only garnets look truly right in yellow gold.

I have a real problem with that thing being considered a tiara. Are we sure that's really what it is? I think Janet is closer to the mark with her "hideous hair net" description. Thanks for that, Janet. Its purrrrrr-fect!:D

Some people look better in yellow gold, some people look better in white gold/metals. QM2 is definately a white metal girl! That's the first thing that hits me when I look at that photo - gold is not her color! Then I can get into the ugliness of the design!

It is, in a word, hideous. The hairstyle doesn't help, either.

Was the piece meant to worn that way? When was it made? It is a garish colored gold--do you know what I mean? Almost that costume jewelry gold from the fifties--I just don't see how she could look in the mirror on the way to an event and say "I look so good in this" I mean really--is that flattering to anyone?
And don't even get me started on the tentacular earring! (I don't know if that is word, but they remind me of tentacles)---YUCK-O-RAMA.

 Oh that's truly ugly! Poor Margarethe.

But perhaps she was on her way to a fancy dress ball.

You have to give credit where credit is due, though...;)

If there's any sovereign lady who can pull such an interesting suite off, then surely it's Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II. Both her height and command enable her to wear this catastrophe and make it look really quite functional. Not necessarily attractive, though functional it is.

I really dislike that head piece...tiara. I'm sorry, it's just so... Vegas circa 1976.

The only thing missing is a trapeze :ROFLMAO:
It really is bad, but like Madame Royale said, Margareth wears it well (even if it is hideous) and she really does possess the command and poise to wear it.
However, I vastly prefer HM in other pieces

Oh God, one of my jokes, one of my idiotic insanities has come back to haunt me again. This is what happens when I go off my drugs-ie chocolate-for any length of time. I get these insane ideas and offf we go into the whacky garish blue yonder.

Yes, I must 'fess up, I done it. I suggested that the poppy horror-all of it be plopped upon the noble, decent and much respected person of Princess Lillian and that the scarab abomination with pearls from oysters with upset digestive tracts be slopped onto the magnificent Margerethe II and at the very least I deserve to be thrown in if not under the Tower as a result of it. I have not yet aroused the wrath of the powers that be, but after those pictures appear on the internet I may have to leave the planet. Cheers.

the winner for me still are the golden poppies of the Queen of Denmark.
Gosh, I completely forgot about Margrethe's golden poppies!
This must be a typical sase of repression.

There are no words to describe the poppies.. well yes. There is one : pug-ugly!!!!:w00t2:
