i did not know she only died about five years ago
 
Does anyone have more pictures from Maria's funeral? As the last pictures posted of Chanel dosn't work.
 
Her funeral was held on January 3rd, 2000. There was also a Memorial Service, held on January 13th.

I knew some of this photo but not quiet all.

I didn't remember how sad was the King. To see this man crying is something very moving.

The Queen is also totally sad. For all, it's obvious that tha death of the Queen Maria de Las Mercedes is absolutly a great sorrow.

For reigning sovereign by himself, may be, but what do you think of the Grand Duchess of Luxembourg who was on the same rank that of the Queen Beatrix one . I agree it's the wife of the reigning Grand Duke but we can consider it's the same thing.

We know that never the Queen ElisabethII is going to a such event, are you sure that none of the other european reigning sovereign didn't be here?

That is not the same. Sending Grand Duchess Joséphine-Charlotte de Luxembourg, may she rest in peace, is the same as Queen Elizabeth II sending Prince Philip.
 
I already do not remember it, and we have few photos, so it is difficult to know it:wacko: . It is supposed that the normal thing for protocol is that to a funeral there goes a person of equal range. Then every Monarchy will have decided whom sends.

The Queen Beatrix decided to go she, probably also for her friendship with the King Juan Carlos. By Luxembourg went the Great Duchess. And by Jordan and Belgium the two queens "widows". Great Britain and Monaco to the heirs, and Morocco to the brother of the King.

Was Doña María de las Mercedes buried with the honours of a Queen? We all knows that he couldn't reign, but without the Second Republic, she would have become the Queen and her husband, the King. Was she honored as a Queen, even if she was not? :ermm:

Yes, she and Don Juan, they received Kings' Honors in their burials.

I agree with you but do you think in the same spirit that Queen Beatrix is the equivalent to Queen EII. In the protocol field mey be because the both are reigning sovereign, but in the fact?

As you know, generally speaking, the Queen EII never goes to the officila funeral act of , except those of the members of her family while the Queen Beatrix is assisting at this kind of ceremony.


For instance, it's quiet the same thing, is she went to the Churchill's funerals? ( :ermm: I'm going to check....) but I fear not.

And Don Juan and Doña María de las Mercedes will be buried at the Royal Pantheon (Panteón Real) of the Royal monstery of El Escorial with other spanish Kings and Queens.

If she is, it's a very small one. It's sort of hard to tell because of the angle. It might just be her hair pushing up the mantilla.
