Engagement of Princess Theodora of Greece and Matthew Kumar - November 16, 2018

The BRF are very close to the GRF, but just not to Theodora, as she has been in the US for many years. So there will probably be a royal presence, just not a senior one. Hence, Edward & Sophie.
I think someone will attend, hopefully the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh - the late Queen was Theodora's godmother, so I think there will be representation from the BRF.

Maybe someone from the York branch but no one of note. I don’t see reigning houses apart from Denmark and Spain attending.

I don’t see them going because I don’t think them (Edward and Sophie) to be close her. It’s not a question of seniority or junior, but a matter of closeness. Other than her Danish and Greek family members and possibly Spanish family members, she’s not immersed in the royal and noble and high society crowd like her brothers. The only members of the Greek family who attended Edward’s wedding were Queen Anne-Marie and Prince Nikolaos, Theodora was 16 at the time. I don’t think any of the BRF will attend with the possible exception of maybe Lady Gabriella Windsor, but even that I’m not sure of.

I think that besides the Spanish Royal Family (Queen Sofia, Infanta Cristina, Infanta Elena and maybe King Felipe and Queen Letizia) and the Royal Family of Denmark (Princess Benedikte and maybe King Frederik X and Prince Joachim), I see that some members of the Royal Family Swedish may be present as they are still close, such as Princess Madeleine, Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel or Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia.

Wonder whether Tatiana will attend. She was her sister-in-law for 14 years after all.

The temperature in Athens on the day of the wedding is forecast at 90 degrees. 😱 Thankfully it will be in the evening.

I didn't expect to see Princess Beatrice at the weddings of Prince Phillipos of Greece, Prince Napoleon, Prince Amedeo of Belgium and of Prince Hussein of Jordan but she was, because of all the grandchildren of QEII Beatrice moves in the most cosmopolitan and Royal circles, along with the man she married.
I don't expect her in Athens this weekend but I won't be a bit surprised if she and Edoardo are there.😉

Difference is that Theodora moves in different social circles then her brother.

Yes we see Beatrice frequently at weddings of continental, and nor Jordanian royals, as she moves in those circles, always has. Philippos is in that realm. Theodora having lived in US for so many years doesn't have the same natural circle.

That said if a BRF member is there she is the most likely for a more senior member.

The Hanovers will obviously attend. Junior and Christian are very close to their Greek cousins.

It is easier to know the list of Greek shipowner families who attend than the royals: All these families, their attendance is sure: The Livanos, the Niarchos, the Nomikos, the Vardinogannis, the Chandris, Goulandris, the Lemos...They have been in all the events of the Royal family.
Among the royals, for sure: Members of the royal families of Spain, Denmark, Serbia, Hannover...then there could be members of the Royal Family of the Netherlands, Sweden, Romania and Norway.... Regarding the British Royal Family could there was assistance, because Princess Theodora was the goddaughter of Queen Elizabeth

The Knatchbulls seem close to the GRF – Theodora is around the same age as Lady Alexandra. Wouldn't be surprised to see them represent the BRF at the wedding.

Has Matthew Kumar converted to the Greek Orthodox church ahead of his wedding?

The British Royal Family did attend the Greek Royal Weddings when King Constantine was still alive .
Now ??

It’s a little hard to compare, since Alexia’s wedding and Pavlos’s wedding were in London, which made them easy for the BRF to attend.

I think the Kents went to Nikolaos’s wedding and the York sisters went to Philippos’s wedding, but not the rest of the family.

Indeed, Prince and Princess Michael alongside Lady Gabriella attended Nikolaos' wedding.
The York sisters and their husbands attended Philippos'.

I think we will see the Spanish and Danish aunts/cousins but I don't expect to see that many other foreign royalty at Princess Theodora's nuptials.

At the King's funeral Matthew crossed himself, bowed, and appeared thoroughly comfortable with Orthodox ritual. I got the feeling that he had converted a while ago.

The queen seems distressed in a couple of the Hola photos. Matthew is holding her hand.🤔

In the Facebook group, the Greek Royal Family: Connie M Gianulis, who is visiting Athens, was at the Byzantine and Christian Museum of Athens this afternoon, and took these photos of the garden, in which we can see that people working to prepare for tomorrow's event, it is not the best part of the garden, but we can see that they have planted flowers, and cleaned the fountain...it will be very beautiful, I will visit the museum in October, because I would like to see the garden well-kept, clean with flowers.

Margareta Thorgren, the Director of the Information Department of the Swedish Royal House, confirmed to Svensk Damtidning that the members of the Swedish royal family don't attend the wedding.

Queen Anne-Marie always has such a wonderful smile!
She is clearly very happy for her youngest daughter. I'm glad she gets to experience this feeling after the sadness of losing her Tino. Surely and emotional day for the whole family, especially for Crown Prince Pavlos who will walk his little sister down the aisle.

Among the groomsmen and bridesmaids: Pavlos, Nikolaos, Achilleas, Olympia and Arietta.
