Working visit of Crown Princess Mary of Denmark: 2-4 Septemper 2013

In a few days' time, Crown Princess Mary of Denmark will travel to Morocco where she'll see projects set up to help women and children escape domestic violence and build new lives for themselves. The princess also aims to highlight women's rights in the Middle East in general. It's part of the work of The Mary Foundation - the princess' project which aims to tackle social isolation and help those on their own, in Denmark and overseas.

I hope so.
I guess Lalla meryem as the princess involved with women's rights issues in Morocco she will escort Princess Mary in this visit.

the programme is intersting thanks for sharing I am looking forward this visit.

Seems like an interesting programme. Pity that none of the Moroccan royals will accompany the Crown Princess on any of the visits or hold a lunch or dinner for her. It could've been done this evening as her agenda is clear unless it's private.

I guess we'll have to wait and see if anyone from the Moroccan royal family join Mary on her visit.

I would imagine that when a royal family member travels to another country in order to highlight problems the host country's royal family are not too thrilled. Both the Jordanian and Moroccan royal families are involved in the same issues that Mary is travelling around "highlighting". It seems more of a PR nightmare for the visited country than a visit by a royal that should be greeted as an equal.

Thanks for the pics. :)

Perhaps someone can tell us briefly about the mausoleum?
Is it a fixed item on the agenda for visiting dignitaries? Just like visiting the tomb of the unknown soldier is in many other countries?

:previous:
Mausoleum Mohammed V is kind of cemetery for the MRF late King Mohammed V,Late King Hassan II and Moulay Abdullah Tombs are there.

Thanks for the pictures so far :flowers:

Yes, it sounds like an interesting visit. I hadn't expected that the Moroccan royals would accompany Mary on this trip as it is a trip with her Mary Foundation.
Looking forward to follow her days...

Here are more pictures. Mary looks great. Love the skirt! It's seems perfect for a visit at the mausoleum.

Mary landet i Rabat

I can see it's Ulrik Ulriksen who is traveled with Mary to Morocco. It's almost always him who travels with her on her official/working trips abroad.

The article also tells that Mary landed in Morocco this afternoon after a flight from Copenhagen airport.

well, as you said, the moroccan and jordanian royals also work actively in the issues that mary wants to highlight during the visit: lalla meryem works on women's rights and i remember rania herself visiting refugee camps, and she is herself a daughter of refugees in jordan, so obviously mary's causes are not at all an issue and the absence of moroccan royals (or jordanian for the last visit) surprises me. particularly the moroccan royals seem to be quite happy to come along with foreign diplomats and dignitaries to this sort of visit. lalla salma accompained rania or the french first lady around morocco and lalla meryem did so as well several times, king juan carlos was invited for dinner during his last visit, and if i remember well so were felipe and letizia during their visit.

:previous:Yes exactly. I don't think it is a question of not being thrilled with the nature of this visit because these issues are already being addressed in Morocco and Jordan by ladies of their royal families, both at home and abroad, for years.
I think this might have to do with the nature of Mary's visit, maybe it was always meant to be more of a solo effort and no involvement of royals from the host country was sought. Otherwise it wouldn't make sense for both the Jordanian and Moroccan royals to not have welcomed her. I think this might have been a deliberate decision by the Danes.

Mary looks beautiful. Im surprised to see her in something sleeveless when the Morrocan ladies are very covered. I would think she would have opted for a longer sleeved top, not that I mind, just saying.

Will she see Lalla Salma or being invited to the Royal Palace?
Bye Bine

thank you all for the photos.
Princess Mary looks nice it's lovely to see her in Morocco.

I find the visit awkward. I am confused about what the visit is meant to achieve. It is a pity that none of Lallas could accompany Crown Princess Mary.

A link that explains the nature of the visit:

LOKK (National Organization of Women’s Shelters in Denmark) is one of Mary's patronages.

Well, Nordic :flowers: posted a link explaning the purpose of the visit. - Which is basically an inspection of the work Danish organisations and Danish aided organisations are doing in Morocco.
Morocco also has an interest in this, albeit limited. Morocco has for years wished to if not to become a member of EU then at least getting even closer ties to EU and as such it would like to present itself as a progressive country which is very much aware of among other things women's rights.

As the MRF are also involved in these issues I must admit I'm surprised Mary apparantly will not meet a member of the MRF. Perhaps someone in the know can enlighten us in regards to the MRF protocol?

I think the simple explanation is that this is a working visit not an official visit. CP Mary is there as chairman of the Mary Foundation, as the press release says, not as a representative of Denmark. So I don't think royal/diplomatic protocol comes into play. She could be any visitor from any Danish foundation, as far as the Morroccan RF is concerned. (But I am not a protocol expert, it's just a guess.)
And I agree with another poster that things are the way they are because the Danes wanted it that way.
