On 15-17 December the Crown Princess couple, together with the Minister for Upper Secondary School and Adult Education and Training Anna Ekström, visits Rome and Milan, Italy.
The purpose of the visit is to promote health and cultural issues and to promote Swedish business. The image of Sweden in Italy is positive and the goal is to further deepen the relations between the countries.

Thursday, December 15 - Rome, Italy
Visit to the Chamber of Deputies
The visit to Rome begins with the Crown Princess couple and minister Ekström's meeting with President Laura Boldrini of the Chamber of Deputies, Camera dei Deputati. President of the Chamber of Deputies is the third highest political office in Italy, after the President and the Speaker of the Senate.
After the meeting, President Laura Boldrini shows the Crown Princess couple and minister Ekström Sala delle donne, Women's hall.
Visit to the Bridgettines
The Crown Princess couple and minister Ekström visit Bridgettine sisters where they meet Mother Tekla and Mother Fabia. Mother Tekla recently left, for reasons of age, her position as Bridgettine sisters' General Abbess of Rome, a position she has held since the 1980s. Mother Fabia succeeded Mother Tekla as the General Abbess of Rome. Today there are about 600-700 Bridgettine Sisters in 55-70 monasteries in the world, depending on the branches of the words that count.

The Crown Princess couple and minister Ekström visit Football club AS Roma's project for young people with disabilities.
Reception at the Swedish residence
The Crown Princess couple and minister Ekström participate at the Swedish Embassy's annual Lucia Reception at the Swedish residence. The host is Sweden's ambassador to Italy, Robert Rydberg.

Visit to the Swedish Institute in Rome
Second day in Rome begins with the Crown Princess couple and minister Ekström visiting the Swedish Institute in Rome and get information on current research as well as a display of the Institute.
The Institute is the base for the Swedish archaeological excavations and scientific activities in Italy. The Institute has a research library with about 60,000 volumes.
The Institute was founded in 1925 by Crown Prince Gustaf (VI) Adolf as a strong driving force. Crown Prince Gustaf (VI) Adolf was the board's first chairman. The purpose was mainly to promote the ancient science, but the institute would "serve the humanistic research and artistic interests."
FAO - UN Food and Agriculture Organization
The Crown Princess couple and minister Ekström meet FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva for a bilateral meeting.
Then the Crown Princess couple participates at the seminar "Step it up together with rural women to end hunger and poverty" high level segment. The seminar is organized to draw attention to women's crucial role in efforts to achieve the UN's global sustainable development goals with special focus on eradicating hunger and reducing poverty in the world.
FAO is the oldest of the UN specialized agencies and has 194 member countries. FAO leads international efforts to combat poverty and hunger, with the goal of achieving a world without hunger.

Saturday, December 17 - Milan, Italy
Visiting Research Hospital San Raffaele
The Crown Princess couple and minister Ekström start the final day in Milan with a visit to the Research San Raffaele Hospital where they get information about the business and the Swedish company Getinge which delivers surgical equipment to the hospital.

The Crown Princess couple and minister Ekström visit the Volvo Group where they receive information about their work on sustainable transport.
Björk Swedish Brasserie
At the end of the visit to Milan the Crown Princess couple and minister Ekström visit Björk Swedish Brasserie. During the visit, they get information from the founder Giuliana Rosset about how it is to serve Swedish and Nordic food in Italy. Björk Swedish Brasserie is in Aosta and Milan with an associated food and Nordic design shop.
