Death and Funeral of Prince Henrik of Denmark: February 13 and 20, 2018

It is stated that the court forbids any and all photography at the Castrum Doloris. How would they actually enforce it? This day and age, anyone with a phone can whip it our for a quick selfie. Of course it requires an extraordinary lack of respect and proper upbringing - but those types are...

Death and Funeral of Prince Henrik of Denmark: February 13 and 20, 2018

Castrum Doloris is latin. Castle of grief is the english translation (for some reason we translate it to "bed of pain" or something similar in Danish. Castrum Doloris is different from Lit de Parade, where there is an open casket. Here the casket is closed.

Death and Funeral of Prince Henrik of Denmark: February 13 and 20, 2018

Apparantly (according to Daily Mail), Henrik was Queen Consort until he resigned the title in 2016!!! No wonder he was outspoken about his dissatisfaction with his title. :bang:

Religion and the Danish Royal Family

The Monarchy and the church The Queen is head of the Danish church (Folkekirken) and at sermons the priest always (?) prays for the royal family (or at least the queen). However, I was looking into High Mass in the catholic church in Denmark. They pray for the government - but not for the...

General News about Frederik, Mary and Family Part 13: July 2014 - September 2015

Rubbing elbows with the upper class is, I think, to be expected with royals. When it's not a "fatal combination" as you say, it is because the royal family have little to no power over political decisions (as a PM and sometimes a president would). While some are envious over the luxury...

General News about Frederik, Mary and Family Part 13: July 2014 - September 2015

She's married!!!! I wonder what her redeeming quality is because it can neither be her looks, her intellect nor what comes out each time she opens her mouth. Perhaps she's a good listener. In the dark.

General News about the Danish Royal Family Part 2: January 2013 - November 2015

The Danish "newspaper", Ekstra Bladet (republican and a general stain on humanity) has run an anti-monarchy campaign in the last few weeks. Now the campaign is coming to an end and they are having an online vote where they ask the readers views on a some of the things they've been campaigning...

General News about Frederik, Mary and Family Part 13: July 2014 - September 2015

Sidney Morning Herald hits a new low. Apparantly, Mary isn't scandalous enough! I'm lost for words (not really). "At the moment, Mary is the least scandal-ridden royal on the surface of the planet. Actually shes so untouched and scandal-free, that she runs the risk of being forgotten. Her...

But the story that she did, did appear. Whether it was a lie or not is another matter. The story itself was real.

General News about Frederik, Mary and Family 12: August 2013 - July 2014

I don't follow the tabloids or BB/SH etc. so I don't know if anything surfaced on that scene (not that it'd matter one bit). In the more "serious" media I've not heard anything of that at all. Hovsgaard made a book a year or so ago about the royal finances - I don't even recall it making much...

General Questions and Information about the Danish Royal Family

Abdications are rare in Scandinavia and the UK. Interesting that you want to bring back the monarchy in a country so obsessed with 1776, founding fathers, an outdated constitution etc. But I do get the impression that many americans haven't really cut the umbillical cord to UK. You constantly...

General Questions and Information about the Danish Royal Family

There are blogs out there that are extremely critical of especially Mary and everything associated with Mary, or anything that is associated with all the things associated with Mary (a strange form of original sin, I suppose). Especially Royal Dish is waving it's hands. The Crown Prince is...

The Future of the Danish Monarchy

Yeah, you'd think so. I must admit that something is lost in translation. She's "borgerlig", meaning conservative/liberal or "centre-right" and she's usually leaning to the conservative side. However the liberalists (not to be confused with liberals in the american sense) in Denmark are keen on...

The Future of the Danish Monarchy

Today, "conservative" blogger Anne Sophia Hermansen lashes out at the Monarchy calling for an optional tax to finance the monarchy. She's generally being a twat (sorry) throughout the entire article, declaring herself a republican. Royal "expert" Lars Hovbakke disagrees strongly and compares...

Afaik, Schackenborg is a listed building. Some of the upkeep is paid for by the government.

General News about Joachim, Marie and Family 3: January 2011 - July 2014

Experts estimate that he has assets left round Schackenborg worth at least 110mio DKK (12 mio. euro). I would like it if more palaces were kept within the family. It adds something to a place that someone - the owner - lives there. Not visit. LIVE!

15-20 degrees C in the afternoon. Though the weekend will see temperatures soar to 28 degrees (and we'll apparantly get a lot of rainfall at the same time. Highly unusual for Denmark with warmth and rain).

General News about Joachim, Marie and Family 3: January 2011 - July 2014

It seems they are looking for a large villa like Alexandra and Martin. Personally I'd prefer it if they chose Sorgenfri or another of the palaces as their residence since they can't bear to stay at Schackenborg, but I suppose one of the reasons of moving is getting away from the castle-lifestyle.

General News about Joachim, Marie and Family 3: January 2011 - July 2014

The cabin was abandoned for a long time in the 90's and after Mary entered the stage, a few new years parties etc. has been held there. However, it is not a place where the RF spend weeks and weeks, let alone live. Schackenborg was a home, a place of residence, on a permanent basis. Only...

General News about Joachim, Marie and Family 3: January 2011 - July 2014

Yes that has been rumored. Something else was wrong, I'm sure. However, if that was the only problem there would be ways of accomodating that particular need. Let Marie (then Alexandra) keep an apartment in Copenhagen, hell they can even spend most of the year there. But keep up appearances and...

General News about Joachim, Marie and Family 3: January 2011 - July 2014

And while that may be well and true, I personally find it as a royal obligation to represent the whole country, and be close not only to the copenhageners but to other parts of the realm as well. That's "tough noogies" IMO, and one of the reasons the danes happily pay for the upkeep of the...

General News about Joachim, Marie and Family 3: January 2011 - July 2014

Hardly. The Prince and Princess walks freely around the local area. I doubt they have guards with them on a daily basis as it is. I know for a fact that he attended local gatherings where one of the locals in Møgeltønder would have raised a barn or whatever and the prince would attend the...

General News about Joachim, Marie and Family 3: January 2011 - July 2014

I'd say that they should reduce the amount of obligations (across the board), if it is too much to also handle Schackenborg. I don't really care if they are at the seamstress-awards or something on a university or whatever, if they aren't residing at Schackenborg. I'd say that Schackenborg (and...

General News about Joachim, Marie and Family 3: January 2011 - July 2014

The agricultural obligations of Schackenborg are too large to also allow the couple to meet the royal obligations as a prince and princess of Denmark. (The short version, I suppose). A foundation is taking over the agricultural aspect. A personal supposition is that Nikolaj hasn't shown any...

General News about Joachim, Marie and Family 3: January 2011 - July 2014

Ekstrabladet reports that Joachim and Marie are moving permanently to Copenhagen. Schackenborg is turned over to a foundation and J&M will stay there occationally and try to maintain their relationship with the southern Jutland. Personally, I'm very disappointed. The Royal Family is already...
