Crown Princess Mary is Expecting Twins in January 2011

I can't describe the feeling I get, when EB wallows in hypocracy regarding the royals. On an every-day basis calling names and questioning their behaviour - sometimes from unsubstantiated or greatly inflated rumors - and more often than not - grabbed out of thin air - only to denigrate the...

General News about Joachim, Marie and Family 2: August 2009 - January 2011

I find the article - or campaign - peculiar for B.T. They are not usually very anti-royalist. They usually leave the most filthy headlines and angles to Ekstra Bladet.

Crown Princess Mary is Expecting Twins in January 2011

The things change so much more for Danes than for most other peoples - most other countries count their maternity leave in weeks, not months - and in some countries they even have to pay for those few weeks themselves. What's changeing now, when you get children, that didn't change 30 years...

Crown Princess Mary is Expecting Twins in January 2011

Yeah, danish women can get close to a year. And while on maternity leave they save up vacation time as well (most danes get 6 weeks vacation pr year), so many woman "celebrate" the end of their leave with a long vacation. No wonder the country is going bankrupt.

Crown Princess Mary is Expecting Twins in January 2011

These laws don't apply to the royal family. They are in no ones employment and can, as such decide whatever regarding maternity. When it's called "maternity leave" by the court, it has nothing to do with what it says in some law or what the unions have negotiated. Usually, Mary (or any other of...

Frederik & Mary's Interview with German Vogue about Amalienborg: December 2010

Highly unlikely. They don't "charge" for interviews or photo-shoots, but select carefully who, when and where. In general, the Royal house does not get paid for anything, they get their assets from the state and only the state. However, it'd possible to send them a gift - a way of "paying"...

Frederik & Mary's Interview with German Vogue about Amalienborg: December 2010

Kudos to Polly for a nice post. Personally I don't get what all the hubbub is about. Royalty is celebrity - I guess so. But that doesn't make celebrity royalty. You could just as well point to another Head of State, say a president and claim he is "mere celebrity". Look at the Obamas. Not...

    Danish New Year Courts: 2004, 2006-2021, 2023, 2024

He could be having a cold or some other illness. The flu is rife in Denmark at the moment. Would you chastise him for putting in an effort too? He could have sneezed a couple of times (from a cold or otherwise) - my eyes waters when that happens. As someone pointed out, there's plenty of bright...

General News about Joachim, Marie and Family 2: August 2009 - January 2011

What does? IMO, a good king must have understanding of the political and diplomatic processes. However, knowledge is only half of it. The ability to handle yourself in diplomatic situations is just as important. By this, I mean being able to say or do something meaningful or even delicate is...

General News about Joachim, Marie and Family 2: August 2009 - January 2011

When was he "chasing young girls at 16 and 17 years of age"? The article you linked to from EB states that the girl was 18 - 17 at the time of the alleged incident. It seems strange to me, that with all the "witnesses" you parade, EB weren't able to present any more witnesses than the girl and...

    Princess Marie's Lady-in-Waiting

Benedikte is not much wrong. If you apply for a job in Denmark that requires a university degree (or heaps of experience) few bachelors make it through the first round. It's simply the norm in Denmark that if you want to say you've finished university, you don't mean a bachelor, but the bachelor...

Frederik, Mary and Children on Magazine Covers

Yeah, you'd think so. And most often they make reasonably nice prints. But from time to time, it looks like something done on a 1990 xerox - and sometimes it's a photo in some poor resolution pixelating the entire image into something barely recognizable.

Frederik, Mary and Children on Magazine Covers

Haven't seen it yet, but a week or two ago, Mary was on the cover. She looked like a well-fed, sweating christmas-pig covered in a thin layer of strawberry-jam. Not very attractive or charming at all. The reason for the "jam" is that someone haven't managed to remove the magenta (or add...

Frederik, Mary and Children on Magazine Covers

Gossip press have a knack for finding and printing over- or underexposed pictures or pictures with a screwed-up color-balance. Too many times it looks like the person on the cover has jaundice and sweats like a pig - and has gained 40 pounds. Where they find those pictures and why they print...

Marie Cavallier: Degreed? Assumptions? True or False?

Criticism where criticism is due. I find it completely acceptable to critizise Marie for fiddling with her resumé. But once that criticism is extended, give it a rest. Another thing is when lies and/or malignant rumours are promoted. As said above, criticism where it's due, but calling people...

Marie Cavallier: Degreed? Assumptions? True or False?

Eh? Did "everyone" really think that? Or did Marie end it, as the press was hunting her like dogs? I don't recall this "scandal" at all. Are you sure it's not just some gossip-press trying to create a scandal that's not there? If you use Se & Hør as a source, keep in mind that they are...

Wow - she actually fell asleep in four different locations! Unbelievable. Oh, right - three pictures where she isn't extatic with interest and joy - a simpleton indeed. "Tell me about the rabbits, George". Welcome to the forum, B.

Frederik & Mary's Interview with German Vogue about Amalienborg: December 2010

At the time of the shooting, she was still not on maternity leave, making your entire post moot. But even if it wasn't - don't you see a difference between having your picture taken (or modelling) in your own home, under private circumstances, minutes away from the hospital, and then attending...

Frederik & Mary's Interview with German Vogue about Amalienborg: December 2010

I don't think all the treats should go to the danish mags (I don't buy them anyway, so I wouldn't care) - but there's also a matter of showing the flag outside of Denmark - and German Vouge is a big magazine and the DRF is quite big in Germany. While it may be "wrong" to think that way, doing a...

Queen Margrethe II and Prince Henrik, Current Events 3: August 2010 - January 2013

New LiW for Her Majesty the Queen Danish paper B.T reports that QM will be saying goodbye to 70-yo LiW Camilla Castenskiold and is replacing her with 60yo Jytte Krag-Juel-Vind-Frijs, a former mayor from the liberal party (Venstre). Jytte Krag-Juel-Vind-Frijs will begin her engagement in the...

Costs, Income, Fortune and Expenditures of the Danish Royal Family

Just read the official report. Interesting read (if you read Danish). I'm surprised how little the monarchy is running us. I once saw an estimate by some professional in the international tourism industry (IIRC) on how much the monarchy was worth (i.e. how much money they generate). Sadly, I...

I think invitations go out to the DRF as a whole. Then the DRF replies who will attend. It is very possible that, say, F&M will be occupied and J&M attends instead along with the RC - or any combination thereof.

    The Royal Hunt: 2003, 2005-2014, 2016-2023

I'm not if favor of rubbing the kids nose in it, but I think it's beneficial that children learn about these things - death - mainly from an early age. And, IMO, game killed in a hunt is a rather dignified way of introducing the subject. Too many people these days have an estranged relationship...
