Malaysian Royal Jewels

The royal family of Pahang has worn some interesting jewelry at investiture ceremonies in the past couple of days.

Queen of Malaysia’s Aquamarine Tiara

A few years ago, after I published an article on the Tiara of Lady Saltoun, Her Majesty The Queen of Malaysia reached out and told me about her identical Aquamarine and Diamond Tiara, and then went into the vault, where she sent images of the Tiara and its case, which was stamped Carrington & Co*by appointment to King Edward VII*and Queen Alexandra, dating the piece to between 1901 and 1910.

Today, after the article on the Tiara was published, Her Majesty told me that she has seen comments that this Tiara is a fake or a copy of the Saltoun Tiara that she had made at Garrard and thus she wanted me to clarify that the Tiara was acquired by Sultanah Nora of Johor, the consort of the Queen’s grandfather, Sultan Ismail of Johor,*at Hennell in London quite a few years ago, before being bought by Queen Azizah herself from her ‘Auntie Nora’. She said ‘I love the Tiara, even if its a copy … but its not a fake for sure’

The Queen of Malaysia seems to be a great jewel lover and I am glad she is sharing the information online, with you and with all the readers of your blog. Quite a privilege!

It could be that two copied were made of the same tiara. This is not irregular, it happened for example for the Pearl Poiré tiara that the Danish Queen is now wearing. Pss Marianne of The Netherlands supposedly had an identical one. The same could be said about the Strelitz/Cambridge and Bavarian (and Q. Mary's) lover knot tiaras, which -though not identical- are very simular.

We’ve published articles on several Malaysian Royal Jewels over the past year:

Queen Azizah’s Diamond Necklace (She told us she received it from the mother of the Emir of Abu Dhabi)

The Perak Diamond Tiara

The Selangor Diamond Crescent Tiara

The Selangor Diamond Fringe Tiara

The Kelantan Diamond Tiara

The Negeri Sembilan Diamond Fringe Tiara

This week, I am attending the Wedding Celebrations of Prince Muhammad Iskandar Ri’ayatuddin Shah of Pahang, Tengku Arif Bendahara and Tengku Natasya Puteri in Malaysia at the invitation of the lovely Queen Azizah!

Tengku Natasya Puteri wore a Diamond Tiara created from a Tiara belonging to the groom’s late grandmother, which has been altered by Queen Azizah by adding a new base.

Tengku Natasya Puteri wore Queen Aziziah’s Diamond Bandeau enhanced with a few diamond brooches, along with several stunning jewels.

Tengku Muhammad Iskandar wore a Diamond Aigrette which has also been worn by Queen Azizah.

I was just looking through pictures of Malaysian royal jewels. 💎 They are so beautiful. The diamond tiaras are incredible. And emerald necklaces are spectacular.

This week, I am in the Sultanate of Pahang to celebrate the Wedding of Prince Muhammad of Pahang, Tengku Arif Bendahara, the son of the Sultan of Pahang and Tengku Ampuan (Queen) Azizah, and have a very exciting discovery to share with you!

Queen Azizah of Pahang and I have come upon the conclusion that her Diamond Bandeau Tiara is Queen Mary's lost Diamond Lozenge Bandeau last worn by Princess Margaret. Her Majesty graciously invited me to the Palace to view the Tiara (and five others) and we both compared it and could find no differences.

Queen Azizah bought this Diamond Bandeau Tiara on the advice of Princess Chulabhorn of Thailand in New York. Like Queen Mary’s Amethyst Tiara, the Diamond Lozenge Bandeau must have been discreetly sold off by Princess Margaret by the 1980s. In our excitement, the Tiara did drop and get slightly damaged but will soon be repaired.

Congratulations on your find! Always want to see this piece again and pity for BRF losing this from their vault as despite its size actually it's a pretty solid pieces. (Hope to see it again but don't expect to see it again on the Malaysian  .)

Thought it is a all-diamond piece, even love it more discovering it has pearls-rows (always love this design on tiara).

They directly pinned the brooches on the bandeau, interesting way to convert. I think those three sunburst brooches also have been attached on the Afzan's wedding tiara for other bride's wedding (let see if I can find the picture...).

Edit: same tiara with the sunburst brooches: 𝑻𝒆𝒏𝒈𝒌𝒖 𝑷𝒖𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒊 𝑰𝒍𝒚𝒂𝒏𝒂 𝑨𝒃𝒅𝒖𝒍𝒍𝒂𝒉 on Instagram: "Happy Birthday YM Tengku Puteri Ilyana ❤️"
