Charlotte Casiraghi, Dimitri Rassam & Family Current Events Part 45: February 2022 -

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
I would expect that she speaks/spoke to her father's family in Italian.
She lost her father when she was 4. So no bilingual at home. She might have received Italian lessons .. but i doubt Italian could be her second language. I'm sure her education favorized more the English language as 2nd one.
From the Casiraghis the most fluent in Italian is without doubt Pierre. He studied in Italy and married an Italian.
Charlotte never lived in Italy and and the only Italian she dated was Lamberto San Felice but i don't recall it was a long relationship.
I strongly doubt her Italian skill is higher than her English ones.

Didn’t she move to Italy with Lamberto? I thought she lived there for a year. But I also think her Italian is probably not very fluent.

Yes, Charlotte lived in Rome, Italy during the time she was with Lamberto San Felice.

Define fluent. Even fully bilingual people will claim one language is stronger than the other. I would hazard a guess that French is really her openly fully fluent language. The others depend on usage. Language use is all about practice. You have to keep the wheels oiled.

Charlotte said to an interviewer (I don't remember which, or when) that she "is shy" in Italian. I took this to mean that she isn't quite as fully fluent as she would like to be.

But her paternal grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousins are ITALIANS, how does she communicate with them if not in Italian?

She is HALF-ITALIAN, after all.

True, her paternal family is Italian. I remember long time ago they were quite close to the Italian grandparents and probably all other family members, especially after Stefano's tragic death. I don't know how the relations developed when Caroline unfortunately married Ernst August, that may have caused problems. As they are very secret and publicity shy we will never know.

What Ernst August had to do with the relations of his stepchildren with their family from their father's side?

He didn't have any right to forbid them these contracts!

I am not saying that Ernst August would have forbidden anything. Caroline married somebody else after years of being a widow. She started a new life with a new family and inlaws. There certainly must have been a change in all family members life. Maybe I am wrong because all of what we are discussing here is pure speculation. But just from experience I could imagine that close contacts with the Casiraghi family as they were before might have changed.

I think the inference may be that Princess Caroline comes across hard, scary, unkind, and special so she dictates her children? Even though she may be have been to free with her children as a way to stick it to Grace and the way she parented.

Some years ago, at a Casiraghi niece or nephew wedding, Alexandra was a flower girl. I think the relationship was fine. Charlotte, due to her father’s death, only redd as lot has one language. She wasn’t raised bilingually her an English, Italian, German whatever are going to be varying degrees of good.

Let's get back to the topic of this thread - news and current events - thank you!

She seems more likeable in motion but in print she just comes across as pretentious. Alongside seeming affected and overly serious. It seems like she doesn't have a sense of humour.

She's got that harsh, cold quality her mother has. I find Grace Kelly more beautiful than both yet Grace has a warm, compassionate, friendly energy.

It'd be nice of she spoke about some down to earth memories of childhood etc. Instead it seems like she's wanting lauds for being in the same presence against the common people.

She would endear herself if she wasn't so intellectual every interview. Talk about your favourite movie or TV show. Mention your Grandma too as she's still beloved around the world.

I think she is just intellectual. And she did mention her grandmother.

She seems a serious person. She isn't the bubbly sort. That's the way it is. She seems to be honest very French. Which really she is. She spent most of her life growing up there. She is who she is.

I really like her. It must have been hard for her growing up without her dad. I really wish she could find long lasting happiness because she seems a bit restless. Throwing herself into literary pursuits is not a bad way to prompt some self reflection and examination, and besides that is the basis of her job for Chanel. You will never betray yourself if you stay true.

I also find it a bit sad that this interview was released today on Grace's anniversary. They never do anything to honor Grace (…)

Charlotte Casiraghi name and surname are just important to promote the Monaco Philosophical Meetings and the rendez vous littéraire de la Rue Cambin (Chanel) .

Thanks for posting this. I found it particularly interesting hearing her view on her position as part of the Monaco royal family.
I can’t exactly explain why, but I find it hard to warm to her. Shoot me down in flames, but I find she comes across as rather self indulgent person , even though she tries to suggest otherwise. It’s just my impression.
That said, the photo shoot is very lovely.

Agree. The lack of warmth is jarring and the lack of humour and down to earthness. Caroline seems hard and scary but in the older footage and interviews she was always smiling and had a emotional depth. She spoke very nicely about Grace in the Barbara Walters interview. (..)

I think she’s just shy and looking for love in the wrong places not unlike her mom and aunt Stephanie. It seems that marital fulfillment has alluded the women in the family long term whether it’s the universe or their own fault I cannot say. She would also benefit from spending more time with herself and not jump so quickly into the next relationship. This is something Stephanie finally figured out after how many years… I sense a void in Charlotte and a shielding that is perhaps driven by a fear of judgment as she stated in this interview.

Princess Caroline was pregnant when she married Stephano and Ernst August.
Charlotte never married Gad because of religion reason but married Dimitri for divorcing one year later.
To me the relationship of Carole Bouquet with the Casiraghi was without great enthousiam.

:previous: That’s precisely my point. With the exception of Stefano, it’s been the same pattern as her mother. She gets enamored and moves too quickly which perhaps comes from having “daddy issues”.

She is who she is. There is no point in wishing her different. Rather serious and not much interested in discussing her own life. The journalist who knew her at the Independent seemed to like her. She comes across French. There is no need to discuss your love of your children or to appear in anyway at all.

She has lofty ideas and likes to be engaged intellectually. Leave her at it.
