This year’s Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to the Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Liberia’s peace activist Leymah Gbowee and Yemen’s human rights activist Tawakkul Karman “for their non-violent struggle for the safety of women and for women’s rights to full participation in peace-building work”, according to a release from the prize committee.
