On This Day: Death of Alexandra, Princess of Hohenlohe-Langenburg
The Princess of Hohenlohe-Langenburg, born Princess Alexandra of Edinburgh, died seventy-five years ago on April 16, 1942 at the age of 63. She died in Schwäbisch Hall where the Hohenlohe-Langenburg family has its main residence, Schloss Langenburg. It was here, in the family cemetery, the Princess was laid to rest. March 10, 1960: Sitting on a sled outside her house in Cortina d’Ampezzo in the Dolomitic Alps, Princess Ira von Fürstenberg poses for a photograph with her two sons: Prince Christoph, 3, and Prince Hubertus, 13 months, zu Hohenlohe-Langenburg. Later that year, Ira and her husband, Prince Alfonso zu Hohenlohe-Langenburg, were divorced. Their marriage was annulled by papal dispensation in 1969.
