Queen Maud Land Receives Royal Visitor

Norway’s King Harald is presently paying a visit to one of Norway’s Arctic dependencies, Queen Maud Land. The purpose of the King’s visit – the first of a Norwegian monarch – is the tenth anniversary of the Troll Research Station. Prince Harry Begins South Pole Trek

On November 22, Prince Harry began his trek to the South Pole with Walking with the Wounded, of which he is patron. Harry and his team were due to fly to Antarctica on November 20, but due to poor weather, they had to stay behind in South Africa until it was safe enough to fly. UK to Name Part of Antarctica “Queen Elizabeth Land”

  The Foreign Office today announced part of the British Antarctic Territory was to be named “Queen Elizabeth Land” in honour of Her Majesty. The territory makes up almost a third of Britain’s claim on the continent and covers 169,000 sq miles – almost twice the size of the United Kingdom. Inauguration of Princess Elisabeth Base Antarctica

  The little Princess Elisabeth herself, whose name the polar station so proudly bears, visited the International Polar Foundation in Brussels on the occasion of the inauguration last Friday, together with her father, Prince Philippe. Willem-Alexander & Máxima Visit Antarctica

The Prince of Orange and Princess Máxima are currently on an expedition to Antarctica, as part of the Dutch branch of International Polar Year. The expedition was planned by Dutch scientists after Queen Beatrix expressed an interest in knowing more about the effects of climate change on the globe, and in particular, the North and South Poles. Prince Albert of Monaco Travels in Antarctica
