Hereditary Grand Duchess Stéphanie of Luxembourg and her eldest son Charles participated in this year’s initiative of the non-profit organisation ‘Freed um Liesen’. Every day a book was revealed in the organisation’s advent calender. The Hereditary Grand Duchess chose to read ‘The Little Prince’ by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. She read it in the Letzeburg language.

Queen Silvia (80) of Sweden celebrates her 80th birthday on today. On Saturday, the royal family shared some pictures on Instagram in which the queen can be seen with her eight grandchildren: Princesses Estelle, Leonore and Adrienne, and the Princes Oscar, Alexander, Gabriel, Julian and Nicholas. Together they blew out the 80 candles on the birthday cake.

Just before the end of the year the The Grand Ducal Palace announced some wonderful news. Princess Alexandra of Luxembourg is pregnant. The only daughter of Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa is due in the spring. Earlier this year the princess married Mr. Nicolas Bagory in France.

Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmad Al-Jaber, Emir of Kuwait since 2020, died at the age of 86 on December 16, 2023. The small state in the Persian Gulf announced the death of its head of state this Saturday, after several days of speculation regarding the health of the sovereign.
